Red Dead Rebel
My PC Specs: i5-4670K 2 GTX 780's SLI 16 GB ram SSD Maybe your specs aren't that high and you won't get 60 fps but it will boost your fps a lot! I've been playing GTA V on my PC since release at (mostly) max settings, except MSAA: off and grass quality: High and all advanced options turned off. the game was running at 45-60 FPS depending on where I am and what's happening on the screen, I've been talking with my friend who's a console gamer and he was telling me that console games are more stable because consoles are dedicated for ONLY gaming while on PC on the other hand, there are hundreds of tasks running in the background. EDIT: I'm not comparing it to consoles, just saying how I got the idea of dedicating a hardware just to play games I thought why not dedicate the PC for gaming ONLY? but I need my PC for other stuff and I can't afford a new PC. So here's what I did: First, you need AT LEAST 150 GB of free space. 1. download the Windows 10 preview version (because it's FREE, I think other OS' could do the job too) 2. install it on a separate drive (or create a partition in your main HDD/SSD) Here's a guide to dual-boot Windows 10 3. boot into Windows 10 4. install Nvidia drivers(or AMD) 5. install GTA V. Now there's nothing slowing down the performance of the game except the OS which is not that demanding. I'm getting a rock-solid 60 FPS with no drops at all even with MSAA 8x and advanced graphics options. I know it's a hustle because I have to reboot my PC every time I want to play the game but I think it's totally worth it for the performance boost also, I still can play it on my Windows 7 but I'll need to tone down the graphics a little bit. So what do you think? edit: spelling mistakes Edited April 21, 2015 by Alsharad
TheMostKnowledgable
If this works, it means your main install of windows should probably be cleaned up or reinstalled and something is wrong. It's not that there are more processes behind the scenes, it's that the OS has layer upon layer between the game and the hardware. A console historically doesn't have these layers upon layers between the game and the hardware. DX12 changes that, unlocks potential of PC like never before, puts games close to the metal like consoles - now you won't always need stronger hardware than a console to match it. Now, cheaper PC's will outperform the consoles at lower costs is the prediction. Edited April 21, 2015 by TheMostKnowledgable
cuvip
People been bashing OS 10 for some reason but I find them to be very promising in the future of gaming due to support of DX12, and overall improvement on gaming generally speaking.

The notion that a PC will just have hundreds of processes running in the background and nothing can be done about it is ridiculous. Of all the reasons to dislike PC gaming I've heard, that's one of the least valid. r0llinlacs, DerpCat and ChrisPerry2
SilverRST
But you have 2 GTX780's................ Of course you're running the game 60FPS and max settings. NightmanCometh96

My OS along with necessary tasks are basically the ONLY things running in the background at all times. tirtel
It can be as well that W10 just requires less crap to run by itself. The only thing that could affect framerate in my case would be out-of-ram issue, but I got 8 gigs of that and before starting GTA, 'only' 40% of it is being used. Besides that, OP may be right. Unless you got an integrated GPU, other applications will use your dedicated one to render somewhat useless stuff while you're playing the game. That along with DX12 may be making the situation better for us, pc players, if we're going to shut down as many background apps as possible. For me issue is that I'm having a laptop and I got so much Asus software installed that it may be troubling games too, but from the other side, without that software, I can't use my keyboard hotkeys, touchpad turns itself on etc. I think that installing a 2nd OS on faster HDD could help as well, when my game stutters, although I installed it on my faster hard drive (and my OS is on pretty sluggish stock HDD), I see that my OS HDD is doing lots of work... Not sure if that's because of pagefile or something but I'm about to check it out.

r0llinlacs
Background processes... lol.. something the Windows 8 loving computer illiterates have no clue about. I have Win7 Ultimate 64-bit and I've gone through all the stuff I don't need.... I have 40 processes running including firefox with two flash-player plugin processes... so 37 processes when firefox isn't open. My (not so smart) buddy who likes to blindly click next on program installs, likes AV software and all this resource wasting BS and has no idea about start up programs... he had 70 processes running and kept complaining that his 6-core computer is slow. Well DUH! I reinstalled Windows for him and told him not to download or install anything without my approval... problem fixed. Background processes make ALL the difference in the performance of your entire computer, not just games. With every iteration of Windows, background processes increased. I was able to get Windows XP down to 18 or 19 processes. Win7 I can get down to 35 processes with no Windows search or superfetch. I've seen a couple people's Windows 8 installs and it looks to run about 50+ processes on a fresh boot, I'm not sure about 10, but probably even more processes than 8. I understand some new things are needed but I don't understand how Windows expects to get more performance while simultaneously having loads more background processes running. It was a mess..... and yes there "was" a virus but either way, reinstalling Windows is much faster and less tedious process, plus a fresh install is always good.
