AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition - Stock Heatsink Info

Hey guys,

Been hunting high and low for ANY information on my default heatsink that came with this CPU.

Thinking of getting an aftermarket cooler, but really interested in finding out the specs of the stock cooler, so I got something to measure it against.

Anyone know anything? Have any advice at all?

At the moment I'm thinking of upgrading to the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo.

So any information anyone has would be much appreciated, as this is the first time I've ventured out to get an aftermarket cooler.

I can't give you actual specs, but they're not very good. Fine at stock clock speeds, useless for overclocking. The 212 is excellent but I'd only bother upgrading if you're looking to overclock.

In this particular case I have to beg to differ.

@OP: I have that exact same CPU, I don't know much about the stock heatsink but I do know it and the fan sound like an absolute tornado when you stress the CPU. I know this because I had to listen to it a lot while playing BeamNG Drive. I upgraded to the 212 EVO and besides the better temperatures, I can hardly hear my computer is on anymore, even while gaming. Do your ears a favor and buy it like yesterday.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Yeah it does sound like a tornado when the CPU is fully loaded. Pisses the wifey off; which in a way is a good thing .. as I get to upgrade my cooling in my PC to keep it quieter :p

I currently have a NZXT Nemesis case, and a Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P mobo. I measured it up last night, and I might be pushing it to get a 212 EVO in there.

Turns out though, that my old man has a spare 212 PLUS at home that I can have if I want it, and the dimensions are basically the same as the EVO.

I do plan on overclocking, hence the reason for getting an aftermarket cooler. I OC'd it from 3.2GHz to a nice stable 3.5GHz, but I'm hitting mid 70's in temp, and AMD recommends not going over 63 (apparently according to other forums/reviews its meant to shut down once it passes this temp?) I also gave it a damn good clean out with some compressed air before I OC'd it too.

If the PLUS doesn't fit in my case, can anyone recommend a slightly shorter cooler?

I've heard that Noctua are up there with the best of them, but damn .. that colour scheme is ugly as f*ck lol.

You could probably get away with getting an AIO cooler like a Corsair H60. You could mount the radiator and the fan to that back vent. It'll probably be a tight fit but it basically performs the same as the Hyper 212.

Only reason why you should consider the H60 is just incase the Hyper 212 doesn't fit in your case.
