Nah.

We're supposed to be criminals y'know.

"we're"? No, just you! Players have the right to become other things than criminals.
No you don't. Rockstar built GTA around being a criminal not joe-average 9-5. Maybe with Mods/imagination you can but as far as the game mechanics and design intentions goes we are criminals.
Oh really?

Did you guys never deliver pizzas with Tommy?

I can't facepalm any harder after reading that... Those are recreational activities buddy boy. Everyone partakes in recreational actives, even criminals. The OP is talking about making a living in GTA through legitimate means. If that were the case then it wouldn't be GTA but another SIMS like clone.

Even criminals have regular day jobs. He is not talking about making a living, just something to supplement income.

Flawed logic man. Criminals would steal any car off the street. Criminals would steal guns not buy them. Criminals would not have car insurance.

This is not the same as previous GTA games.

Besides, if Claude, Tommy, and CJ are good enough to be firemen, police officers, paramedics, ice cream truck drivers, taxi drivers, and pizza delivery boys, then I think we can too and still maintain our criminal status.

Right back at you. They stole those vehicles and impersonated cops/firemen/paramedics and etc. All criminal offenses.

You should be able to own your own business, or just work for Burger Shot. Even working for the LSPD for god's sake. We should play GTA Online with a more different outlook.

That could help with developing a better cooperative gameplay.

I imagine a lot of people get burned out by the constant PvP modes. While there's missions, Survivals, and now Heists...it doesn't stand up against the PvP gameplay. R* has to crack that code somehow.

Implying that criminals dont have other "careers". No where in the history books does it say we all have to be "gang bangers". If history taught us anything is anyone can be a criminal and we won't even know it. Look at how many wealthy people there are in the world. If anyone of them broke just one law, that would make them a criminal.

And I'll tell you what, most of them have. To make it rich, you need to break some rules. Now I'm not saying anyone that is rich is a criminal, chances most are. So why not have some type of "career"? It would make gtao more interesting and fun to play. But it just seems like most people posting are against fun.

Also people need to stop with that dried up Sim comparison.

Well thats the loophole to this situation. If the player steals a cop car and does vigilante missions while pretending to be cop then fine because you're still a criminal. Just as long as the gameworld doesn't recognized the player as a legitimate cop and you can still become wanted. Owning a business (bought with illegal funds i might add) would be cool because you wouldn't work for the business but instead it works for you. As soon as you start getting players that are recognized as legit cops for ex. well then there goes GTA down the drain.

Some of the classic odd jobs featured in older GTAs would be nice like:

Vigilante

Paramedic

Pizza delivery (on faggio of course)

Drug dealing

Taxi driver

"Ice Cream" truck driver

Volunteer firefighter

and of course, who can forget...

You should be able to deliver pizzas to random pedestrians via the Pizza Boy scooter. Have each delivery be timed, with the time limit getting more restricting with each successive delivery. You will be paid $50 per delivery at first, but eventually you'll get much more challenging ones that go for $500 a pop.

Once you reach a certain "level" in the activity, a Well Stacked Pizza company uniform will be unlocked for you to wear (outside of delivering pizzas).

Yeah, that sounds cool. Rockstar should bring back activities from previous games. What about vigilante or paramedic? You could unlock the outfits by doing those. That sounds fair.

I always thought it would be cool if we got a call asking for help taking out a player that has a 5 star wanted level. Kind of like they did with Test Drive Unlimited 2

Actually, criminals would have car insurance. IF your transporting something illegal why would you want to increase the chances of getting pulled over. In California, no car insurance and your registered either gets never issued, or revoked/suspended. Also, driving around in stole cars all the time is stupid as that creates a scenario where you'll go to jail for a crime that is not even worth it. And just so we are on the same page, I'm talking about criminals that are more on the line with our characters. Criminals that are actually interested in making money. Not just gang banging and trying to kill each other.

There have been plenty of crooked cops through out the worlds history, why is that not okay in Los Santos/in GTA? It could be part of picking your characters background for Online. He/She could be a cop, it would allow certain perks (access to the police station/police vehicles, police scanner, police missions, missions to go after other wanted players, etc). But if you get so much times worth of wanted levels you get kicked off the force.

HelloMyNameIs...

I want to be a dentist. :) joking but I see where your coming from bro, but personally I don't see R* ever doing that. It would be cool though if we were able to buy properties like in the single player and get revenue from them, maybe like a daily $10,000. That would be sort of like a career cause you own a business. You can be a very luxurious business man or woman lol. :)

Here's an idea. Suppose careers are implemented in a way that won't interfere with the criminal activity of free roam. Any of the careers already mentioned would probably work, but let's just say they were to add these:

• Police Officer

• Firefighter

• Paramedic

• Fast-food Employee

Now let's say you choose to be a cop. Once you select that career, you'll receive a single phone call each in-game day calling you to work. In the case of a police officer, it could be the Chief requesting you "arrest a [suspicous/murderous/fleeing] person at [insert location/town/district here]. It would work similar to accepting a job invite; you accept and you're loaded into it. In this case, you'd be loaded directly into the front of the police station you applied at in a solo "mission" with the objective to arrest whatever type of NPC you're tasked with catching. The "mission" would provide you with a squad car and uniform immediately, but would only be unlocked for use in free roam once you complete a set amount of workdays (1 successful mission a day with pay = 1 workday), with missions you fail resulting in less pay AND the day not counting towards your total workdays/work attire and vehicle unlock.

Of course, you would be able to deny the work requests, knowing that it won't count towards your unlocks. As well, you could quit your career and apply for another one at your leisure, but at the cost of a real-time 24 hour cooldown before your new job becomes active, AND turning in your former uniform and car unlock... so not everyone has each uniform available and every career unlocked car in their garage. It keeps things balanced. Want to go back to being a cop? Turn in your Burger Shot uniform and promotional car, and EARN your police gear back to replace it.

Anyway, you get the picture:

• Randomized missions/minigames available once per in-game day based around your career

• Ability to accept or deny said calls, with denials not counting towards total completed days/unlocks... as simple as hanging up!

• Unique unlocks based around your career, availabe after successfully completing a preset number of workdays (Police Uniform + Squad Car / Burger Shot Uniform + Promotional Car etc.)

• Ability to change careers, with your new job becoming active following a real-time 24 hour cooldown + turning in your old gear

• Careers won't interfere with free roam, besides certain players having access to certain uniforms/vehicles for aesthetic purposes

Are you guys really that bored in your life that you want to have a job in a video game?

I work enough that the last thing I want to do is work in something I do as a leisure activity. The side missions of being a cop/firemen is something I could understand but working at a fast food restaurant ,really?

Could do like in sp where you buy a business and do a set number of missions to get it to start generating money.

You could own the burger joint but other people could hold it up. Or taxis and other people can blow them up etc.

I'm also hoping for this proper Business DLC. Not the "Business Suits" Update. I'd love to work at a run-down Burger Shot for only $5 an hour because it provides a sense of realism. Southern San Andreas definitely is the most realistic GTA world ever, but to add Fast-Food joints you can work at? That's better because of it's Realism.

If this doesn't make it into DLC by the end of V's lifecycle (aka end of this year or next) I'd hope for it to be in VI.

The burgershot idea is pretty lame, but I like where you're going with this.. I mean the game offers those services already, why cant we partake in it and make money like the other games?

They could also add in the Trash (drug) pickup from the Series A heist. That could totally be implemented in free roam. That setup was one of my favorites. Let us be able to play it alone or with a friendly.. drive the truck around to 4 points in the city, get out and pick up valuable trash. Dump it in the truck and drop it off to the scrap yard or wherever/ whoever is the contact. Gives us something better to do than random red cars/helicopters/planes to blow up, and other misc. activities you can make money off of.

PS. I hate jobs where you stand in one place for 8hrs and serve customers. Most boring and stressful type of low wage job ever. Why would anyone want to even play that in a videogame?
