Took another before the rain stopped. That's Novigrad just ahead.

that's why I constantly smash F5 while playing.

I don't think I go more than 5-10 minutes without quick saving.

Bastard. :p

I didn't lose much progress though, just a few points of interest and the benefits there of, so I'm fine with learning that autosave isn't common sense early on in the game (still in the first area).

What is everyone's favourite/go to sign at this point? I'm rolling with igni mainly just as I did in Witcher 2. Pretty satisfying and provides good utility IMO.

I'm with IGNI as well. Seems to piss off many of beasts so far.

Kinda exhausting relying on quen , hacking and dashing to defeat tougher enemies.

Can't wait to get more skills :[

Where in game is that?

It's where the arrow is. The direction it's pointing is the angle I took the screenshot.

Iv never played a witcher game but this looks really interesting. Do you need to play the previous games or not to really know what the hell is going on? I kind of want to buy it but I'm worried about the fact I might not enjoy it. I've looked at reviews and screens and stuff but I'm trying not go diving in head first. So what would you guys suggest to someone on the fence?

No you don't need to play the previous games to know what's going on. If you at least played TW2 then you'd understand a lot of the references, but they are something that are said in passing conversations (at least so far in the beginning).

There's a lot to do in this game and I'm really liking it so far. Unlike Dragon Age Inquisition which dumps a ton of quests on you at the beginning, TW3 allows you to go at your own pace.

I can honestly say that after having now played all 3 Witcher titles, you may as well forget about 1 and 2 unless you're really that invested in seeing the backstory. at this point W3 is so robust and complete and expansive that it's virtually the definitive Witcher. the combat is so polished and the world so large that if you were to play 1/2 after finishing 3, you would probably actually be disappointed.

and this is coming from someone who really loved W2.

I played through the 2nd game several times. but compared now to what I've already experienced in W3, the first and second games are really going to feel restrictive and downright claustrophobic.

like, it would be hard for me to go back now.

you don't need to know the story of 1/2 to enjoy 3 at all.

Well, good that I decided to play the 2 first. I tried it last year and gave up after a few hours. It's a good feeling to know that the best is yet to come. The Witcher 3 really looks like the opus magnum.

Between the intro video and tutorial, I think the game does a decent job at filling the player in regardless of past experiences.

The tree from the 2014 gameplay video way off in the distance. Gonna go there soon.

Ah ok. I'm too low level for Novigrad yet. Great screenshots though

Wow, it's been two days an people have already figured out how to make Hairworks work better on AMD cards. When I say better, I don't just mean playable, I also mean better than on Nvidia cards. It's hilarious: http://gearnuke.com/witcher-3-run-hairworks-amd-nvidia-gpus-without-crippling-performance/

Just bought it. I've been told its like 40GB but the steam version is only showing me about 23GB. Does steam download the 23GB then magically start downloading another 20GB of ''updates'' or is it just 24GB?

Not sure about Steam. I bought the physical copy and it was around 23gb.

Figured out how to ride a different horse but it doesn't have the saddle or anything like Roach does

It's just that. I think I said it before, system requirements were posted before the optimization was done. It is possible that optimizing the game resulted in using assets with lower polygon count, texture size or audio quality etc.

I just picked up Witcher 3 on Steam. I'll be starting another playthrough on there. I missed a lot of things in White Orchard, so I'm more than happy to go back and experience it all over again.

This is the second game I've ever bought on more than one platform; the first was GTAV. But I am more than happy to support the series/devs.

And yeah, it's 23GB on Steam. That's what I am downloading right now. Once that is done, you won't have a further download.

Good. I wouldn't be asking but its going to take me 2 days to download to begin with, so didn't want the hassle of another 20GB on my hands. Thank god I'll be away this weekend and just leave my PC on to download.

Guys I just wanna ask something..
with a 4790k cpu, gtx 980, and 16gb ram... am I supposed to be running it with a smooth 60 fps on ultra or not? I just wanna know..
I mean I just finished watching the first cutscene in the game and went to the balcony and I'm having huge frame drops (it drops to around 45+-), even inside the house I have frame drops.
Just would like to know if it's really that demanding or there's something wrong with my PC.
Thanks.

(edit: tbh I still haven't changed anything in the settings or tried lowering the quality of certain things.)

What resulution are you running it at? I run it at 1440p, and with everything on Ultra and all the works, it was the same for me on an i7 5820K, GTX 980, 16GB DDR4 - stuttery mess. I dialed back some settings to High, and turned off hairworks, and I'm getting a pretty consistent 55-70'ish FPS. :)

I'm running almost the same setup except with a 960. I haven't had any real bad fps drops. The cutscenes may drop here and there but barely noticeable for me. And I am running ultra with Hairworks on

Fought a wyvern and shrieker. Those battles were on par with movie scenes :)

Me and the wyvern just kept circling each other waiting for the right time to attack, and with the shrieker I mainly just kept dodging, managed to catch one of my Side-flip odges in slow motion while I was trying to switch signs.

It's running on 1080p.

I'll put some settings on "High" and see what happens in a bit.

It's kinda strange, it feels and looks really stuttery for me.

What version are you playing? Running on ultra and no issue here with the GOG Galaxy download on my i5 3570k GTX 980 and 16GB DDR3.
