crinkledern
Hi there. A friend and I are thinking about getting GTA5 but we're unsure what kind of things there are to do online. We usually play games with strict co-op but since this is sandbox, we don't want to buy it and realise you can only really drive around the city shooting stuff up, then a day later never play again. Is there any co-op content that would keep us playing? What activities are there to do?

BeaZ77
There is no "same system" co-op. Offline is a single player story and sandbox. Playing online with GTAO would require 2 games on 2 same devices (XB1, PS4, PC, etc), because the game does not cross-platform. So for you to play together on PC would require that you both have a PC, you both buy the game. From there, there is a ton of things to do in GTAO. My wife and I regularly play together online, both in private servers, and together in an open server. Its usually a blast.

Just looking for examples of things you can do together to keep occupied in game.

Sov47
People seem to give unclear answers. Me and 3 friends have been enjoying missions recently (Im a pc verteran, they are mostly noobs so I can keep em entertained. well noobs is an inappropriate word... doesn't matter). Anyway, if you want to play it like that, gta v is sort of an additional story mode, but it doesn't force you into a linear chain of missions or anything, so calling it coop campaign would be very wrong. There is a sh*tton of actual COOP Missions, which start unlocking at lvl 5. It starts out doing small time missions reposessing cars or sticking up drug deals) which seem kinda repetitive but not really. Then you get in contact with bigger... contacts and they give you more complex missions. You can go ahead and plan your approach out, you can use anything you have at your disposal (helicopters, boats, planes whatever you think will work), or you could go in, uncoordinated guns a blazing and probably be killed within 5 minutes (like everyone in gta online). Missions are pretty hard actually. You can set the difficulty, but the AI are all world class bi-athletes anyway. There's no real story behind it other than a bit of text and a thank you cutscene at the end. If story is important, make some money, buy a high-end apartment and you have your new planning room for heists, with cutscenes featuring all players, well scripted story-like missions and tons of fun. Downside of heists? You'll have to search two more friends. Anyway just a tiny illustration and a test of the video-editor, here's a small part of a coop mission. Most important is to have friends, plan the missions out and communicate.
