Anyone Have Tips for Deathmatches?

Okay, so lately I have been playing a lot of Deathmatches. I used to never play them. I've always felt I was pretty good a shooting (knowing the basics, like aiming up at the head, using combat roll, etc).

However, I always seem to lose close combat battle or long range. For instance, if I see someone about medium long range (close enough where auto-aim still locks on to the player) and I get the first jump on them, they are still able to kill me. Is there like a secret tip I don't know about? Lol.

Also, is this like Battlefield? I mean I have experimenting with tapping the trigger vs. holding it down. Does this affect accuracy? I'm just getting tired o emptying like 20 rounds into someone and then getting killed by them for what appears to be 5 rounds from them.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Know when to do the combat roll

Stay away from vehicles

Master the heavy sniper

Have the important weapons out

That's what I usually do.

There's a few things to keep in mind that have helped me top score many times.

- Always run and pick up health and armour

Constantly refuelling these two will save you countless times. High levels will soak up a lot of rounds, make sure you can too.

- Use explosives and vehicles

Like seriously, use these. It's cheap, but explosives are immensly powerful. RPGs, sticky bombs, or even a simply grenade will help you rake kills. Ramming and running people over is easy and effective. Stay fast and manoeuvre around.

Oh, and on maps that involve vehicles AND explosives, avoid ground vehicles. You're an easy target for explosives.

- Aim for the head

Often always overlooked, this is simple. Even a high level will drop after some rounds to the face.

- Pickups

Some guns are flat upgrades over others. Make sure you're armed. The Advanced rifle is the perfect example of both accuracy, rate of fire and power. It's also a great example of a gun that is a flat upgrade of the AK, for example.

Oh and no, this isn't like Battlefield. Hold down the trigger, your spray will stay the same.

Thanks for the link. I glanced at it and read it more thoroughly in a few.

But do you have any tips for accuracy?

Edit: okay, okay. I'm going to try some of these. Thanks man!

This will only come at practice. GTA doesn't have advance recoil mechanics, if you're wondering. Just practice, there's no tip that can immediately make you good.

Practise some burst fire using fully automatic firearms. It might sound like something you would only do in an FPS game, but shooting 3-5 bullets a time can actually improve accuracy, especially at longer distances. At least that's what I feel like.

I assume like most people you are playing in auto-aim?

Use that to get the initial aim, then aim up al little bit to go for the head shot.

That is how other players kill you quickly, even when you have shot them X number of times and they are still alive.

They maybe using body-armour, and/or refilling it or eating snacks to remain alive while being shot.

Yeah, especially with the combat MG, as it's aim seems to go upwards after the first few rounds letting go of the fire button and pressing it again for a couple of seconds and firing again helps to keep the aim on the target (actually the chest area of the enemy you are aiming at).

IMO the regular carbine is a little more accurate at longer ranges than the advanced or special carbine.

Advanced is better for medium-ish range, I personally don't use the special at all.

I'm more of a sniper mostly though, I keep my distance so I'm out of lock-on range then strafe from side to side while looking down the scope. A lot of people can't hit sh*t without auto aim so they'll just waste a full clip shooting around you, the odd person will be decent & land a few shots but if you're quick enough and go for direct chest shots you'll take them out.

At close range just use the auto shotgun every time, nothing else is worth bothering.

Also avoid the MGs, they don't seem to do a significant amount more than damage than assault rifles and the accuracy is awful.

One last tip for RPG accuracy, aim your sniper reticle exactly where you want to hit then quickly switch to RPG without moving your reticle & fire away. This is especially useful for getting people camping or behind cover.

  • Don't leave low-populated lobbies, be patient and wait. If you end up with a one-on-one, who cares, it's still a DM - at least people get to play.

  • If you host matches, don't make them 30 mins long. 5 should be enough (with a rematch if it proved to be popular). Don't assume people want to spend hours in a session.

  • Use of cover is underrated - fight the enemy on your terms, not theirs. Draw them out into an area of your choosing and reap the rewards.

  • Play different maps - don't stick to the usual ones... avoid any '$$$$$$$$ & RP' style BS where possible, but try stuff you haven't played. I've created DMs and would love to play them with other players and get feedback if they feel there's not enough balance.

  • Don't take it too seriously. K/D ratios only matter to people who feel they have something to prove. It's just a game :)

Are you on PS4?

Don't play assisted aim. Problem solved.
