Kafonix
Hey folks,I recently reported a thread and appearantly, it was deleted by someone because I couldn't find it using the search function or the forums at all. Some posts I report are important for me though, and I really would want to know what happened to them after I reported them for personal reasons. Or, for example, when a mod doesn't do anything despite a post being reported, I would want to know why. So, I would like it if you'd get a PM when a post you reported gets locked/deleted/moved for more transparency or whatever reason, really. Something along the lines of "Hello, <name>, thank you for reporting this post. An administrator has taken action in this specific case by <reason>." would totally do the job. Thank you. c:
Ai®a©ob®a
Do you know how many topics get locked on a daily basis? The mods would spend more time sending PM then being able to keep up with reports and keep the forum clean. Almost every single thread that is locked the moderator does give a reason before locking it. Topics that are deleted are deleted for a reason i.e it's full of spam or other rule breaking reasons and if a post/topic isn't locked or deleted it's because the mod determined it wasn't breaking any rules. WildBrick142
Some posts I report are important for me though, and I really would want to know what happened to them after I reported them for personal reasons. Why not save the posts somewhere? Screencap, notepad, video, etc. Why are they important to you if you reported them, expecting them to be deleted? Or, for example, when a mod doesn't do anything despite a post being reported, I would want to know why. Sometimes no action is necessary because the post isn't really that bad or rule-breaking. Personally, I've never saw a report that hasn't been solved or marked as under review for more than 5 hours. You don't really need to know why was a specific action taken or who took the action. So, I would like it if you'd get a PM when a post you reported gets locked/deleted/moved for more transparency or whatever reason, really. Something along the lines of "Hello, <name>, thank you for reporting this post. An administrator has taken action in this specific case by <reason>." would totally do the job. Sending a PM about 100+ reports daily would get tedious and would fill up mod/ledby PM space rather quickly seeing as the limit is 500 and there are more than 500 people who are reporting posts. Locked topics have a reason for lock 99% of the time. Deleted topics are definitely rule-breaking so they need no explanation as to why they're being deleted. Moved topics are moved because they're in wrong section - what else is there to know? Though I'm not against the idea of an automated notification, there isn't really much point to it. All that members need to know about reports is that an action was taken about the specific report and that's about it. All that members need to know about reports is that an action was taken about the specific report and that's about it. A notification rather than a message could work, or at least let the reporter know something was done about it. I remember reporting the same thread where the OP kept bumping it about four or so times over a week before something was done about it, before actually posting in there and being told off by a moderator. Getting a notification on what was going on would at least've been better to show something was being done about it. Kafonix
PhillBellic
This is something along the same line, but could the Admin of this site create a topic lock 'template', for use when a topic gets locked?
Ottae
We do have some standard lock templates, but the majority of staff post in a topic to lock it anyway.

Spuds725
Below are the template responses--- I have never used any of these until just now---- 2 of those automatically lock the thread also... This subject was discussed recently. Please look down the forum or use the search tool to find the relevant topic. Thank you. ++++++++++ This is a reminder to you all that when you see a spammy post or something that breaks the rules, that you should *not* reply to it.Posting replies such as "reported" is not only spam in itself, but ruins the chances of the topic getting back on track, and makes it difficult for the moderators to clean up threads and keep them on topic. Especially, do not quote the offending post as this simply makes the staff's job that much more time consuming. As such, pointless replies or replies to spam topics will attract the attention of the moderators and you may be warned for it. Please bear this in mind the next time anyone is tempted to post in response to deliberate spam instead of just reporting it and letting the moderators deal with it.Thank you. ++++++++++++ What a meaningless topic title... how about being a bit more descriptive? This is a suggestions/improvement forum after all, so it's pretty safe to say that your topic is a suggestion, or an improvement, or whatever else you've put in the subject that made me lock this with a boilerplate post.Good topic titles rather than "Suggestion" or "Improvement" would be:"Flags not visible in profiles on all skins""Make avatars linkable""XBOX Code buttons" Spuds' GTA V 100% Checklist // My IV & Vice City Videos "I want to design a video game where you take care of all the people shot in all the other video games.... OG Viking
To send a PM to everyone who reports something and explain what was done and why, is completely unrealistic of course. But some forum software offers the option to send a brief message if the moderator wants to do so. On Xenforo: Using this option will auto-generate a PM. But it's rarely used because normally, there is no need to report back to the reporter. People can see that the staff are doing their job, and if a report is not acted on it's because no action is needed.
Flachbau
I don't believe staff should have to notify others unless it was a major issue in the community. Just my two cents. Spuds has actually sent me a PM once about an issue I had and tried to solve it as much as he could.. but for just regular reports then I don't think it's necessary. Ryan
We get hundreds of reports each day. It's impractical for us to PM each reporter. As for the idea of an automatically generated message, is it really necessary? Just report something and move on. You shouldn't be losing sleep over knowing how moderators handled the report. *MURDOC*
