Rayza1
So the game has not been a pleasant experience for me so far due to the constant frame rate drops, it is 60fps sometimes but is constantly dropping to 30 and everywhere inbetween, not just on either 30 or 60 but 43 44 45 etc even though i have v-sync on. It says i am only using half of my v-ram and i have most options only set to high. Does anyone have any tips or recommended settings? I've read so much about how it's a good port so something must be up, i don't have this problem on other games and playing really makes me feel nauseous i'm playing on i7-4790 R9 290 16GB RAM SSD

Rayza1
I'm just at a loss and wondering if it's a particular problem with the graphics card on this game? Usually i'm using a 3440 x 1440 monitor so i thought i'd try out my 1920 x 1080 screen to see how different it was, it made no difference at all, so i tried it on this screen with v-sync off and all AA off and it dipped to 20fps at one point. It's pretty much unplayable.
utack
Happens here too, but only when in the submarine or extremely "grassy" areas. (which has been reported before). Must be poor vsync, does someone know how to force the graphics driver Vsync, it did not work for me with an app profile? It does not seem to be GPU specific: http://gtaforums.com/topic/787298-v-sync-and-framerate-drops-temporary-fix/ Did someone (and I doubt it) get a Freesync display and can report? Rayza1
It's not even just in grassy areas for me, no matter where i am driving around it never feels smooth and never sticks to one frame rate. It feels like v-sync isn't working but it does stop the screen tearing so it must be.

Dyngsur
Reflection Quality: Ultra ---> Very High Reflection MSAA: x8 ---> x2 or off. wont do much diffrence to your eye. You just gain a few more fps.
ILS_Supernova
My problem definitely belongs here, have a read and tell me wht you think I didn't think I experienced any issues but after loading after a perfect play through a day earlier I've now got slight stuttering but whats worse is that I'm now getting bad screen tearing Tried both Vsync options either through the game or Nvidia panel but nothing. The only way I can stop the tearing is to up the MSAA to 4X or even 8X so it purposely drops the FPS. Tried using afterburner to cap the FPS at 59, 58, 57 but the tearing still appears, from what I've read if my FPS goes over 60 with a 60hz monitor which I have it will produce said tearing but this was not the case before and once after the update. The only thing I can thinl I've done after the update which again didn't bring about any issues but in fact made my fps better is that I did fiddle with msi afterburner just slightly OC my gpu. Could this have something to do the screen tearing? I'm pretty sure I did test this and loaded my default gpu settings however. Any help or input with be great guys

TheMostKnowledgable
Putting v-sync on 'half' has made a big improvement Amen to that. Now you can max out the visuals beyond even newgen version and your PC has double the time to do it.

Barrett_killz
You'll eventually get used to playing at 30 FPS, that's how I did, at least no stuttering. Vice City criminal

It's hard to notice stutter when it does it all the time with 30fps, true... Console master race approves, same FPS, same visuals... TheMostKnowledgable
The visuals are not the same, stop saying it, you just invite proof like this: Every jagged dotted line edge in the consoles is a smooth straight defined edge on the pc comparison. And screenshots only tell half the story, and so does that vid, 30fps, youtube compressed. Video doesn't even do it justice, but it does show differences. Compression artifacts aside. The best picture is on the PC version, it's just a fact. If you can't see that, I applaud your bad-vision improving games for you, but my vision can easily see that every version except PC is jaggy as f*ck as soon as you look out at the world and blurry too. Everything is higher quality on PC, you just are only seeing compressed images, it is not the same, the PC version is the defiitive most high quality rendered version, it is a fact. That's probably why no console users are going out of their way to supply PC gamers with direct capture screenshots to compare. There should be comparison threads everywhere, a big active one, but nope. Edited April 20, 2015 by TheMostKnowledgable

philbeau
With my setting snow I have about 80fps avg. But I still get stutter, sometime i go from 120fps to 80 and get no stutter, then I go from 83 to 81 fps and get uhuge stutter. I think that it is driver related. I'm waiting from a response from nvidia, before driver 350.12 g-syng was fine and now it is broken in a lot of game I play.

ILS_Supernova
I think reading through the endless threads that this game still needs optimisation. Mine and many others GPU and CPU should be handling this game with 60+fps, also seen a good point about Far Cry 4 having a hell of alot of grass and thats running fine. People with gsync monitors or high refresh rate monitors are still have tearing issues and stuttering. I think compared to what Rockstar fixed in the first patch these issues will take time iron out unfortunately

But its a new game and i guess compared to GTA IV its a flawless release for most people. But yes indeed it need patches to be real good. One thing i dont understand is that they seemed to lock the menus to 30 fps and thats the worst for me. Anoying as hell!

On2wheels
On my gtx970 What solved this for me is putting the driver into "use the ADVANCED 3D Settings" mode and forcing ADAPTIVE VSYNC, then turning OFF vsync in-game. Before this change: it's smoothest when driving in the city, but as soon as I go through the forest and into the desert, especially at night, with vsync ON, I'll get huge fps drops to 30 and it holds there until I get way past the area. It's as if the game has an artificial frame limiter at 30 that interferes with Vsync because if i turn vsync off, the framerate drops are much less noticeable and do not get anywhere near 30 in the same locations, and will go much higher than 60 in the city. I'm also curious how much having 16gb of system ram affects the game. Edited April 21, 2015 by On2wheels
Vice City criminal
v-sync at half is not that bad. specially if the normal v-sync make your framerate go all over the place (40-60)
