EvilFiend
how about instead of crying over a video game go play another you actually enjoy? theres an idea It's almost like people can enjoy a game while still criticizing some aspects of it! But who cares, you're one of the hundreds of R* sycophants who infested this forum upon its release who believe the game can do no wrong so you yell at everyone who dares to point out its flaws. You causal fanboys have turned this forum to complete sh*t. Oh so because I think bitching on a forum is a waste of trime that makes me a R* fanboi? this is what we grown ups like to call "grasping at straws" Please by all means cry yourself to sleep over a video game I couldnt care less
LightningLord
-damaged police cruiser- GTA V's car damage is the best in the GTA series in terms of realism. Glass cracking and shattering, scrapes in the body work, detaching bumpers and fenders, etc. The only issue with it is that it takes way too long and it takes too much for the car to deform. Driving straight into an oncoming traffic car at 120 MPH (190 Km/h) should cause some massive damage to the car, and not some scratches and a small dent. The damage looks great, it just is hilariously inconsistent and takes forever to actually show up. Also that's a pretty cute Henneko avatar. Crimson Flam3s
It is sh*t. Doors don't deform, roof neither and it takes crashing at 120mph to even put a dent on it. That's without mentioning that crashing cars is not as fun as IV. Yes because what you want in a car based open world game is to crash once at a low speed and the car gets unusable like in real life. That would be the funniest game to play. Oh and as soon as you stole another one you would get caugt by the police and the game would end. Nice concept you got there buddy. Realism FTW And when did I say it has to be exactly like real life? Did anybody complain about IV deformation and how easy cars got totaled? Yeah exactly, no. Nayrox
Why do people who like V's handling always say that they don't want a "realistic" handling like in IV. I mean IV's handling and physics were far away from being realistic but they give you some sort of kick that GTA V misses. I like it way more how cars drive or crash in GTA IV and how it looks and how it feels. It would have been ok if Rockstar just made a more direct version of IV's handling for GTA V but instead they made radical decision in to the other (wrong and Saints Row-like) direction. Now when we already talk about realism, in GTA IV I died rarely while driving but in GTA V when I drive off a hill or fly through the windshield I often die instantly, that makes no fun. Aikor
I did some testing and actually you can detach the wheels off Get a truck and ram onto the front wheel of a car at high speed
nkjellman
I honestly think that the car damage is heavily watered down in GTA Online compared to GTA V like many other things, like: -Lack of some props -Lack of rag doll button -Lack of animals -Lack of events like AI aircraft, AI boats, cable cars at Mt. Chilliad. -etc... In SP, I have gotten wheels stuck on cars. I have even seen the wheels come off of cars. Personally, I think it is watered down in MP to avoid bugs. For example, in GTA IV, sometimes when you or another player have a bad connection, strange things can happen. If you two are riding in a car, and you could have a near miss with another vehicle or object. However, on their screen you hit that object hard enough to knock the door off of the car. So on their screen, the car is damaged and is missing a door. On you're screen, the car is perfectly fine, but the door falls off for no apparent reason. I believe that in GTA V, since wheels can come off of cars, this would be a issue if they could in GTA Online. It would have a much bigger impact on you driving the car. You're wheel would just fall off, because it did on you're passenger's screen, but not you're screen. The deformation is much watered down in GTA Online. I don't think it used to be though. I remember back in last gen, sometimes my friend would have a messed up car, but the bumper is in the position it would be if the car was not deformed. Therefore, this results in the bumper to appear to be floating. In both GTA IV and GTA V, the vehicle deformation didn't quite sync up correctly in MP. B Dawg
For me the damage in GTA IV for GTA V is kinda too much because in GTA V the vehicles speeds are too fast V cars have roughly the same top speed as IV cars, not taking into consideration the exaggerated acceleration, traction, etc... IV's cars were already tougher than 3D era cars. V's is just too much.
Agni
The massive grip V's cars have also makes the crashes weird. This is why you can barely move cars in wrecks, they have so much grip that they can't slide upon getting hit. Mulyadi and P2FX
solrayz
Anyone notice how only the front and rear portions of the vehicle receive damage, yet the cabin portion remains in tact. Not totally realistic.
K.Walters
You want car damage? Go play BeamNG Drive. 1 bumb at high speed and your car is a potato. Edited April 20, 2015 by WalterS_LV
Nick930930
Roofs don't deform for one and ONLY one reason. First... Person. End of story. Gta6 fan
Agni
They could have just made roofs not deform where the driver or someone else is sitting. Also actually damaging a car to the point where the roof can clip through the driver's head is insanely hard and rare.

Aikor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCmwQDfj8PA This mod looks great!! How were they able to mod the damage on consoles???
Agni
They modified the handling.dat and burnt a new disc. If you have a modified console which can play backups, you can mod console games. It's just that most console games are very hard to crack into and you have to get a modded console, so it's a niche thing. And R* really needs to set the engine bay to be much more resistant to deformation because seeing it crumple like the engine isn't there looks weird as hell. Little Red Nurgling
The reason why damage was scaled down from IV is that you buy cars now. You would not like to get a new car, then scrape a truck and have to reapair it because the wheel would get stuck immediately. If only they did things like Volition did with Saints Row where garages contain an infinite supply of any vehicle you put in them, then we would have been able to have realistic damage AND eliminate the problem of SP insurance as well (or really just to get rid of insurance in general, since I see no point in it to be honest). Crimson Flam3s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCmwQDfj8PA This mod looks great!! How were they able to mod the damage on consoles? They even have a handling mod on consoles. Btw for those of you who hate the handling, just the slidey cars cheat code, I think it might hold you ever until a proper mod is released. There is 2 cars that handle amazing and above the rest, it's like a IV and V handling love child. The Jaguar and the buffalo(not franklin's). The rest of the cars range from ok to nice but these 2 stand out.
BigBadMF
The stuck wheels are irritating. Aside from crashing into other vehicles, or trees or rocks, just driving say an Infernus over rough terrain for awhile you suddenly realize you cannot go as fast as you did, and it is because one of the wheels gets stuck. No big thing...as I said, just an irritation.
GTATAG
Way better than IV. In IV it seem like the cars were made out of plasticine when you crashed them... Gta6 fan and Mulyadi
