Alexander Morgan
I drive around using a controller, the F710 in particular. Its a lot better than using a keyboard since you can actually control how much gas you apply, unlike with the keyboard where its either pedal to the metal or nothing. But what I can't understand is why there are no settings to adjust the deadzone on the left stick that controls the steering of vehicles. Rockstar added such a setting prior to the PC release, but only for the right stick. Is it months of work to add a setting for the left stick as well? Why wouldn't they allow us to adjust this very simple setting for ourselves? This would solve the deadzone issue for people using the supported steering wheels as well. My question is, does anyone know of a way to override this setting in the game? An external program or anything of the sort? Maybe there is a settings file for GTA 5 somewhere that has the value for the deadzones on the left and right stick in it and maybe these can be adjusted to lower values? I've searched around, but I could not seem to find anyone pointing this out. Could it be that nobody cares about the dead zone issue in gamepads for the steering stick? If that's so, I guess everyone's perfectly content with the sloppy handling of cars while driving with a gamepad Edited April 19, 2015 by Alexander Morgan Vixremento and White Hot Speed
Alexander Morgan
Fixed it using the x360ce emulator's anti-deadzone. Boy, is it great not to have any deadzone while steering and flying. I'm glad I spent 2 days scouring the net for a solution and that I didn't gave up. For anyone interested and that might be annoyed by the deadzone on the left stick like I was, the x360ce is your answer. Cheers! White Hot Speed
Awesome find Alexander, I was getting a headache trying to find a solution! A few questions... - Not sure if it matters, but is your GTAV the digital (Steam) version, or disc? - Will this work with other controllers (PS4 controller) - Will it work with other games? - Will it work with Steam games that apparently have the deadzones 'hardcoded' in? - Any idea if the triggers Deadzones can be edited as well? I HATE Deadzones! And would like to (nearly) eliminate them lol Thanks Edited April 22, 2015 by White Hot Speed
Alexander Morgan
My copy of GTA 5 is a steam version, but that doesn't affect the usage of the emulator in any way - whether its launching from one platform or another. I am not sure if it would work emulating a PS4 into an XBox controller, but I cannot think of a reason why it should not. It works with any game, not just GTA 5. As far as I've read, people use it for hundreds of titles. When a game has deadzones hardcoded in its executalbe or its settings, the emulator has an anti-deadzone setting the user needs to adjust in order to nullify the hardcoded deadzone. For GTA 5 that anti-deadzone value is close to 23%. Anything less than that a certain amount of the deadzone persists and anything above that makes the controller center be budged towards the right and bottom edges. Every game has a different amount of dead zoning, so for each game you need to figure out how much anti deadzone to apply by trial and error. 3-4 tries and you'll find the sweet spot. I am not sure if the triggers' deadzones can be edited, though, There is no such option in the GUI of the emultator. However, here's a snippet of the config file that the GUI writes: Left Analog X AntiDeadZone=7300 - antideadzone amount for the X axis of the left stick (~23%)Left Analog Y AntiDeadZone=7300 - antideadzone amount for the Y axis of the left stick (~23%)Left Analog X Linear=0 - amount of the curve going throughtthe center. Not good to have this in GTA5 driving. inmho. Better to leave it a straight lineLeft Analog Y Linear=0Left Analog X=1Left Analog Y=-2Left Thumb=9Left Analog X DeadZone=0 - a deadzone the user can apply to the stick, if need be.Left Analog Y DeadZone=0 And here are the values for the triggers: Left Trigger=x3Left Trigger DeadZone=0Right Trigger=x-3Right Trigger DeadZone=0 As you can see there is no anti-deadzone value for them, because the GUI offers no option for that. But who's to say that if you add them manually in the config file, like this: Right Trigger AntiDeadZone=2500 wouldn't work? I'd test it for you, but GTA5 has no hardcoded deadzones for the triggers so I would have no sure way of knowing. On a side note, I've had to sacrifice FF for now. The current .dlls I use just don't support it. There may be a way to get it to work, but since I don't like it anyways, I haven't tried. Try it and let me know if you need any help. Good luck! White Hot Speed
Awesome. I'm not very tech savvy. So this is greatly appreciated. I'm actually downlowding GTAV right now... So as soon I get over the initial excitement of playing it for the first time on PC. I'll get the x360ce emulator, and let you know how it works. And possibly have questions for you. The FF not working is fine. I actually don't care for it either. I think it can negatively affect your precision a bit. Thanks again!

Alexander Morgan
cant u just toggle the deadzone in the Windows calibration Settings ? thats how i got a ten year old Joystick working for E:D That depends on the drivers of your particular gamepad and what options they offer. You can probably calibrate and set up your gamepad any way you prefer, but once you start up GTA5.exe its going to override those settings and impose its own dead zones and ingame settings on the gamepad. That's why you need an external program that will, as it were, override the override of the executable. Awesome. I'm not very tech savvy. So this is greatly appreciated. Sure thing, you might actually not mind the default game settings once you get playing, but if you find the default steering dead zones not to your preference don't hesitate to ask for more setup info with this. Hey I just got a Logitech F310, was searching how to fix the deadzone problem and found this. However I'm not very sure how to use it, I tried fiddling around with it but I still had the deadzones. Could you please do a full tutorial on how to set everything up? Thanks!
