assuming to be on that list of about 200 out of millions of players is like hoping to make a big win in the lottery.

as i don't play lottery and my sc account has not been hacked yet, i will take the very little risk of getting hacked on a game and not change anything.

 

and as there is probably only a very small amount of players of this forum affected by this (maybe even none), i don't really see the necessity of this being a pinned thread.

it's ok and also nice if someone warns about this in an extra thread, but pinned, really??

only a very tiny part of the whole player base of gtao is on this forum.

must be really really "lucky" if someone here is on that list!

i was just referring to this special instance as i don't see it as a big threat.

in generell i care alot about internet security and know quite some stuff about it (without being an expert on this, though)

i agree with using more complex passwords than "password1234" etc. and laso changing them sometimes.

 

only in this instance i didn't see the importance or even such a huge risk as there were just a very few players affected.

good point that the number rose from 200 up to "tens of thousands".

i didn't know that and it changes my point a bit.

compared to millions of players it's still not a very huge risk of being on that list.

but i can agree better to prevent something to happen if you have the option.

People are still going to use Password1234, Qwerty123 and ect as their passwords even if they were targerted.

 

People either just don't care or are extremely ignorant to internet security

Considering the way these passwords where obtained, an extremely complex password would not have protected you. The main reason before is due to the encryption technique used. Before every password1 would be encrypted the same, therefore look the same. However, with a random string attached, every password sent to the server will appear differently.

 

I'm fairly sure they also have software to detect automated password guesses.

I changed mine last month even though I'm not on PC, Did it regardless. I also changed my PSN email as well... Friend of mine that plays rift got hacked he stopped playing, so I understand how frustrating all this can be.

 

Plus just update your passwords every 60 days to be safe also!

Dunno why,but i'm pretty sure that since one of the latest updates now the game asks you the email instead of you SC tag

I THINK it was just password stealing from mods, specifically those 2 linked ones, but it`s never a bad idea to change a password.

i recieved an email about a ban and didn't think anything of it becasue it was addressed to someone completely random.

 

Anyway a week later i went to play GTA and i was kicked. So i went to the social club, had to reset my password, then when i logged in, my Username, language and country had changed. i changed them all back except the username as it wont allow me to

 

I've tried taking it up with rockstar, but no response. Getting really, f'ken angry now.

If your name has been changed you have to wait 365 days to reset it, or ask R* to request a name change that wasn't intentional but I highly doubt they will let you change again the name.

Send a message to R* explaing the issue and ask them to revert your name back, They'll be able to see that the name and stuff was changed but like JohnnyK said there is no guarantee they'll do it

revert all ur cars to default and have to pay to get them back to top class? give u a ridicuilous license plate? Delete ur social club? alot of things dude.

Yup, This is still an issue even 9 months later people are still getting their account details stolen.
