I only skimmed through and I won`t "read" further. So, respectfully asking the same question: what was hacked exactly? USERNAME and password combos or EMAIL and password combos? Because you can sign in with both right now. Was it USERNAME + EMAIL + password combo?

 

Your OP suggests only USERNAME. Is that the only thing they got, or is there an email also?

Adding, access to any linked accounts like XBL/PS console or social media accounts like FB, twitter etc. And why should you care who can access your social media accounts? Well it can be minor like someone posing as you and going on FB and posting kiddie porn. Or it could be a national security threat like this

And also access any personal data aka your real name, address and/or credit card information you may have associated with your RGSC account. God forbid the hackers actually obtained any critical personal information like credit card numbers. So they can go on an online shopping spree. Unlike the hacking in GTAO, this real life cyber crime could end up costing ppl hundreds to thousands of dollars. Which btw, their real life banks may not compensate them for.

 

I'll never understand how ppl don't see why it's important they need to guard their personal info. ppl think nothing of sharing save games and other game related data which contain personal account info.

 

But then again, we now have an entire generation of very young GTA fan boys who grew up on social media. And so think nothing of sharing every intimate detail of their private lives. Like tweeting to the universe how many times they're taking a dump in which bathroom in their house.

 

And so think nothing about sharing their most personal and private information online with complete strangers. And by doing so, make themselves completely vulnerable to identity theft. Which btw, makes doxxing or swatting someone far easier....

 

The ignorance in this post pretty much says it all. smh.

All they need is your username and password and once they have that they also have access to your e-mail address you used to register the account and if you use the same password for everything it could compermise your e-mail and anything else you use that password for and anything you have linked to your social club account

If you use the same password for your PSN log-in it's best to change it, Better safe than sorry

No this wasn't just a PC thing tthis affected players across all consoles even those who don't even play GTA, The issue regarding PC comes from their serial number for the game being linked to their social club account so they could be locked out.

 

It's better to be safe than sorry especally if you use the same e-mail for everything

Is there a way to check if your account has been breached?

Nope. Best thing to do is check all aspects of the social club for anything that seems different, or anything that you know you didn't change. You probably get an email if something changes...

 

Edit: However, I didn't receive any email when I changed my password, so maybe not. Lol
