This still happens quite often in fact there are many places where people are selling/buying cracked accounts to play online with mods with so it's best to keep an eye on your accounts and change your password every so often.

Rockstar has finally acknowledged the glitch in secuirty

 

We are aware that unauthorized attempts have been made to access Rockstar Games Social Club accounts using email and password combinations sourced from unaffiliated, compromised websites or databases elsewhere on the internet. For the accounts affected, we are in the process of reverting those accounts back to their original owners. As a result, the ability to change email addresses for Social Club accounts has been temporarily disabled. See the following Rockstar Support article for more information here. As a reminder, it is a good policy to ensure that the Rockstar Games Social Club account username and password is not shared across multiple websites on the internet. For accounts affected with this issue, we are working to respond to customers to reinstate full user access within 24 hours of contacting Customer Support. Please continue to look to the Rockstar Support website for more information as it develops.

 

 

For those of you wondering what could possibly happen if your account is hacked..

 

They can change your account setting such as your password and e-mail locking you out of your account and you will never get it back.

 

Can start up the game and delete your character which would make you have to start all over again as well as lock you out of your game completely so you will have to make a brand new account and start over from the beginning

 

Also if you use the same password for everything i'd suggest you change all of your passwords for all accounts with the same password.

 

It’s that time again! You thought your password was safe, you thought you could rest easy with Passw0rd1 forever, but no, it’s time to initiate Pa55word2. That’s right, yet another gaming service may have been victim to a hack, and this might actually matter to you.

 

A report out of OverClock3D claims that Social Club accounts have been compromised with a list of 200 usernames and passwords appearing on pastebin. It hasn’t been confirmed by Rockstar, but obviously it’s always safest to just change your password, again.

 

Password security is such a pain. Like most people, I have a variety of passwords that I use on rotation. However, when remembering what the details are for specific things (Uplay,

 

Steam, PSN, etc) it can get far too frustrating. I know that security is important and I don’t want these things to get hacked, but I’m so tired of changing my passwords to be more secure, and then forgetting which secure password is used where.

 

I read that passwords are actually less secure now that they have to be so much more complicated – people can’t remember them all so they store them in text documents on their phones or post-it notes around their offices. Remember the days when putting in a password could remind you of a childhood pet or your significant other? Now it’s just too easy to crack so you’ll only be reminded of nice things if your significant other came with a serial number.

Read the OP, They can delete your character and if you are on PC they can lock you out of your game all together.

They could go and compare your character's stats to those of your friends.

I use a set of puzzled passwords from games made for PC in the 1990's. That's the only way I'm able to come up with difficult passwords as well as remember them. For me, it's kinda like the scene from Mission Impossible when Ethan looks at the bible on the shelf and *ZING! LIGHT BULB*!

Expect people are already coming out and saying it's happing to them people on PC are being locked out of their game and other have had their characters deleted.

 

It's up to you whether you change it or not but it's better to be safe than sorry.

 

That's not mentioning what could be done if you use the same password for everything which a lot of people do.

I use multiple emails and passwords for all of my accounts, be it Xbox Live, PSN, Facebook, Twitter, YT, Battlelog, Pornhub...

Worth saying that high level/high bank accounts are probably worth a few bucks on Angora or whatever, so a lot of members here should be looking to change ASAP if the dump is accurate.

What scary about this too is a lot of people use the same password for everything including their actual bank accounts which could be compromised as well.
