Big Gta fan
Another GTA player out of so many that lends credence to the general consensus among GTA fans that V's story really was very poorly written and structured. This has got to be the 1,000th thread stating how rubbish V's story is, since that game came out. Take a note V fanatics, I did not make this thread myself ! Not really... http://gtaforums.com/topic/739192-vs-storyline-isnt-as-bad-as-people-say-its-misunderstood/ http://gtaforums.com/topic/651691-what-rating-would-you-give-the-storyline-in-v-1-10/?mode=show But do go on, your bullsh*t opinions always seem to amuse me. I think you are becoming my favorite member around here; much love OG Anyway, as I have always stated, the story is average in my opinion, but the gameplay is what matters in a GTA game, and on that front GTA V delivered (in my opinion of course). Lol the second poll was a month after the game came out, so many people were still in crazy hype and excitement mode. The first poll you posted was a year after the game came out, and if you noticed, more people stated that it very poor to just okay, which is indicative of the idea that for many, on second thoughts, V's story was either nothing special or it was weak. Those poll results for V's story are no success by any means, they are very patchy regardless - a really successful outcome would have the overwhelming majority saying it was either great or good, not 'just ok'. You'r wrong actually when people are in grazy hype and play this game it will not just be a disapointment it's a huge one not like the people who didn't hype a lot. Big Gta fan
GTA V's story's weak point is the pacing and character development. The game might have some great moments like Bury the Hatchet. But overall it's disappointing. Trevor still lives in that POS trailer despite having billions of dollars in his pocket. It just make no sense at all. The game is good and well polished, but there are many inconsistencies in both story and gameplay. Who told you he still live in a trailer he wanted the money because he don't want to live a trailer anymore he had a enough it was mentioned at the end of the mission derailed. .Then why does he still lives there after the end of the game. I did not say that V has no development, it has a weak plot overall. there were story missions after the ending?what the player do in the game has nothing to do with the story.....The game lacks development even after the game. Trevor is still good old crazy Trevor. Michael is a better person than he was before. Franklin was drunk, but he ain't getting drunker while ironing his clothes. Unlike GTA IV when Niko achieved the American dream and severing all his criminal ties after the game. GTA V should have more missions than just 69. And why masks and boiler suits consider themselves as missions. They are just pointless IMO. I agree with last sentence..................but tell me what happened to cj after gta sa Did you leave the hood or stayed especially after the problems that kendl mentioned and the tour that madd dogg mentioned....................i mean after the game you still will see ballas it's not like they are gone they are still there attacking the hood.........what did cj achieve after the fantasy journey he had? and doesn't matter to you where he lives he wanted the money to end his criminal career and that's exactly what happened..........and i'm sorry i can't imagine any story that will fit V except this story every time i try to change some events of the game in my mind.......let's just say 3 indepentment criminal with no corrupt law forcing them to do anything so they just going to rob and rob and rob then what it will be boring and you will not feel the character .....and that's the problem that's what everybody want well almost .........rob then rob then mess with a bigger criminal just to expand the story..........yeah that's the story i first wanted to gta v but it doesn't work out. SmokesWithCigs
this is old news, but Slink Johnson (Lamar Davis) has an gtaf account and made a topic when V first came out, a proof that someone in R* payroll knows the existence of this bitch house. Yeah this was late last year he made a thread thanking gamers for support or something like that. I should've bookmarked it. Wow, you`ve said it beautifully. Doesn`t change the fact that the game sucks but you said it so eloquently. Thanks. Of course all of us have our own preferences, and that's the way it should be. V surely is not that typical crime story we were used to. Some may like it, some may not. Either way, if the game makes us analyze, think, consider, discuss and so on, then it is surely worth playing to me. This way we also undergo changes and develop, both as players and as people. I may be going too far with this, but that's the way I think about art altogether - and I consider games art. This isn't only directed at you but everyone in this thread. Why does every ting have to be about story? Why can't we just like the game because we like shooting people ,racing, fighting, robbing ,buying clothes, looking at tits In the strip club, hunting, playing tennis or golf if that's your thing bounty hunting drug and weapon running and heist. This is the first GTA to have more than one heist mission and give multiple approaches to these heist. I never cared about the story in any GTA I've played before of anything it was secondary. I don't care about the inconsistencies in the plot I just like to blow sh*t up and drive sleek cars. GTA V's story's weak point is the pacing and character development. But fair enough that's your personal opinion. However I don't see why you need to question why so many people like GTA for it's stories as well as it's gameplay, when the series's great popularity and success was clearly heavily indebted to the storyline missions. InfiniteTias
Yup it was really weak. I still think IV has the best story and V is the 3rd best GTA game with San Andreas on second place and IV on first. I don't know what it is, but IV feels so much more like a living breathing city with the special Rockstar feel, while V is kinda bland in that department, even on PC. GTA IV was the last GTA when R* focused on the SP. I won't be surprised if GTA VI will be MP with a story... woggleman
I posted this in another thread but it makes sense here. Here it goes. In Liberty City we have the entry point for the American dream. It makes sense for the protagonist to be an immigrant because he is a man in a strange new land looking for a better life than what he had. He arrives and finds out that the American dream is not what it seems and to survive he does what he knows best how to do which is criminality and violence. It is a dog eat dog world and he is forced to eat or be eaten. It is a good metaphor for capitalism. In V's LS we have the end point for the American dream. Michael has reached the goal. He has the house, a boat, a nice car and he never has to work again but it is not what it seems. He sold his soul and his friend out for this and under all the material riches his marriage is in shambled, his kids are trainwrecks and he has no real friends in LS. Trevor and Sandy Shores are the complete flipside to this. He happily lives on the margins and completely rejects Michael's version of the American dream. He has complete contempt for polite mainstream society and views Michael's world as one big farce. Sandy Shores where he lives is the kind of community where people have moved to get away from society and have taken themselves off the grid. For him crime is not about riches but about that kind of freedom. If you have M and T hang out this kind of class warfare comes up often. Franklin is sort of in between. He is a young black male from the hood who repos cars for a living. I am sure that he has done many jobs at houses like the one we see in the first mission with Lamar. He gets that life rubbed on his face everyday but goes home to the hood. He desperately wants out so when Michael presents a chance he takes it but he is stuck in between that and his loyalty to the hood. It's why deep down he is loyal to Lamar who in some ways is Trevor to his Michael. In many ways the game is about three different takes on the American dream and how they clash. That is why I say it is deeper than people give it credit for. If you really listen to the dialogue this stuff comes up quite often. A few things could have been done better but it's much more than this shallow Michael Bay plot it's critics make it out to be. People might not agree but that is how I see it. Son of Zeus
First off V has character development IMO I think there's an amazing amount of characterization, the story campaign is decently lengthed, and the lack of payment is a great example of gameplay / story integration (Not because you don't have lots and lots of missions that doesn't have anything to do of the focus of the game make a development for your character example i didn't care for cj after he left the hood you only had like 35 missions that serves the story's goal).make sense right and this my best gta (sa) No. V's story is not decently lengthed. 69 missions for 3 protagonists is never gonna be enough, don't even try to deny it. Especially when you have missions like buying boiler suits and masks. The story suffered because of the short length, characters weren't fleshed out properly. Micheal's movie business isn't fleshed out, TPI isn't fleshed out, Franklin and Tanisha's relationship could've been more detailed. Maybe you don't know this, but San Andreas was supposed to have three protags. That didn't happen because of technical limitations. As a result, SA's story is a mash up of three stories. However, apart from a few missions the story wraps up pretty good in the end. Don't know about gameplay integration. I mean, in the story Franklin says he wants to get out of the hood, but I can still go into the hood and have shootouts. This aspect is present in the previous GTA's too. second yes i know he did that but if you focused kendl will say that there is still lots of problems "sh*t never end" then madd dogg comes in and they were are going onI know about that. . a tour so there is a bigger chance that he left the hood and hi come on after he became wealthy and share a casino and the 60 millions jetpack there is a little chance to stay on the hood................and that's weird the easter egg actually make sense to what i'm saying that he left the hood. What I'm saying is that at the end of the game, CJ has brought GSF back to the top and wiped off his enemies. After that he might have left the hood, but the fact remains that he did set things right and bring GSF to the top again. So he didn't realise the killing people isn't part of the american dream he wasn't even that rich.. That's not true....And why are you telling the story of niko i already know it? I don't think they are easter eggs............. fans made theorys that he killed himself and gta v comes in and brought characters(lester-packie) to hint he's dead so it does make sense that he is dead and keep in mind they are from the same universe (or maybe he stayed low but it's likely he is dead) then why packie left him they were like brothers. Of course killing people wasn't part of the Dream, but at the end of IV he is much more rich compared to the time when he steps into Liberty City. The main part of the American Dream is about being rich and sh*t(IMO) and Niko is richer than he ever was at the end of IV. They are easter eggs. Jimmy's laptop shows Niko's Lifeinvader profile, that is just a throw back to the IV fans. And yeah he might be lying low, who knows. Packie might have left Niko because Niko might have stopped his criminal acts and taken over Roman's Taxi company. Seeing no oppurtunities, Packie might have left for LS. Or they might have fought over something. Edited April 18, 2015 by Son of Zeus
Big Gta fan
This aspect is present in the previous GTA's too. second yes i know he did that but if you focused kendl will say that there is still lots of problems "sh*t never end" then madd dogg comes in and they were are going on a tour so there is a bigger chance that he left the hood and hi come on after he became wealthy and share a casino and the 60 millions jetpack there is a little chance to stay on the hood................and that's weird the easter egg actually make sense to what i'm saying that he left the hood. I know about that. Or they might have fought over something. That's why i said Maybe he stayed low.............And come on didn't he know that crime will cause him more trouble you i mean for a guy who looks wise and talks wise but acts like a maniac man what?......... killing the guy who loved roman's love interest just because he loved her or had an affair with her ..........look i'm not saying it's bad story of course not it's best gta storyline for me...............yeah and one more thing about the story decently lengthed i was comparing to the games of the same generation ........yeah i was wrong about this i'm sorry about it it was a copy paste comment............yes i said it before i want more missions with the three characters but it won't change the story it's still will be the same story........and i can't deny also how was the dialogue and the acting great i can't deny i felt the characters even if the game is short. Official General
I really don't think V's story was deep at all. I don't see the American Dream thing either, don't try and coat it like it was something dramatic like that. Niko is an immigrant to a brand new, 'great' country that he's heard of many times, but never set foot in, with ideas to start a new life and prosper - that very much fits the concept of chasing the American Dream. Michael and Franklin are both American-born, Trevor is Canadian, (not too far off), they are already used to what the American Dream symbolizes and represents, it's been around them the whole time - it's not that dramatic to say it was like in IV with Niko's arrival in Liberty City. These 3 guys were purely about just getting rich quick (well Trevor cared more about acting the fool and taking drugs), they didn't have big dreams to totally change their lives in a new place, they just wanted quick, big wealth like any other American probably did. The corny-ass, Hollywood feeling of V's story also contributed to me being very put off by it, not just it's shallow depth. I get you think there is more to V's story and even if it was another take on the American Dream, I still think it was done badly, in structure, pacing, and writing. I will give credit where it's due, it's not something that can be forced upon me to do. I played the game and followed the story closely enough, there is nothing further for me to look into that would change the way I feel about V's story. Even when I used to initially criticize IV a lot, I always stated that I very much liked the story, despite it's flaws, I always stated that - I knew from the start that IV's story was great, but I did not get this feeling with V's story, and that's where my position remains, nothing to look further into. woggleman
Michael had big dreams to change his life and he achieved that by the time we start the game and he sold out to do it. Trevor has already realized what a sham the American dream is which is why he lives in some decaying resort town that is only home to those on the margins these days. He has achieved freedom in a different kind of way, They both made out of North Yankton but in different ways. Franklin I admit could have developed better but he wants out of the ghetto and he sees doing crimes with the trio as his way out. A_Cheesy_Vag
The protagonist r very "meh" indeed. I would never feel anything if one of them were to die.

First off it had some deep moments not like gta 4 of course gta 4 is better at that............about the american dream micheal simply has everything but not happy and that's true that's why we see rich people suicide but he is even worst he betrayed people in the past .............and about the corny hollywood stuff first you don't have lots of missions involving the corny hollywood stuff just (3-4) stuff second I want you to figure out a way how a criminal who were used to sit on his as* all day watching old movies who wants to do one a big one then retire Better than this idea. Big Gta fan
Hi guys come on just stop this...........The guy who made the thread is no longer keeping up with it and he just signed up today just to do this thread he said somethings wrong about the game.....he is obviously a blind hater.. and you all agree with him..he might already have another account in the forums but due to some bizarre threads on the forums people made threads like praising some aspects of the game Like the dialogue and the story or the missions....he decided to make an account and this thread. MrDeSanta
The story is...meh. Storyline has been told many times before.Nothing new under the sun here. The characters are boring, even Trevor. Trevor was interesting in the beginning but gets repetitive when the story goes on.Franklin and Michael never got interesting in the story. Only Franklin is boring. Michael and Trevor are everything but boring. But i agree that the story is nothing special. But the missions are varied and quite fun. Heists are somehow dissapointing (at least to me) but i enjoy the rest of the missions. lastmanonearth
Otselot
I agree, V's story was the worst in the series. The Green Sabre
