Cannot Connect to GTA V Online - PC

Hello,

While playing GTA V i am not able to connect to GTA V servers. My steam and social club are linked, I can see my friends that are online on my friends list, and I still can't connect to online servers. Whenever I turn on GTA V Online I connect to a Public server with only me on it and cannot connect to any over servers. I am unable to join my friends servers because it fails to gather the session info, and the same with Crew members. I have deleted all of my personal settings for the game, restarted my router, and everything. I feel like ive tried it all and the rockstar support sucks ass, PLEASE HELP!

Thanks

Welcome to GTA V.

Sorry to sound like a dick, but console players have been dealing with this for over a year and half now. Nothing new. It's a Friday night and the servers are bogged down. Everyone and their mother is trying to logon to GTA Online on PC. There's honestly nothing you can do about it.

Enjoy your stay,

Rockstar Game Services

This has nothing to do with server traffic... there arent any server issues im experiencing. Something is wrong with my ability to connect to the servers in the first place.

Same for me, but I've made some observations due the "endlessly-trying-to-connect-course". It seems to have to do with router/modem combination or dynamic ip's and stuff - generally the game doesn't like to be tunneling through some crazy amounts of connectioning hardware and some network configurations or types. Things that doesn't work in any description are port forwarding, disabling NAT, disabling firewalls and antyvirus stuff - nothing on the rockstar's connectivity troubleshooting list is really fixing issues (actually out of over 1700 peeps who clicked "was this article helpful" buttons, only 170 clicked "yes", so it shows true value of all those "pro tips"). The only way to fix (or bypass rather) this is to for example set your smartphone to "hotspot" mode and use its internal internet thingy, which is obviously very not economical, costly and short-term. Only other option for me now is obvious - rockstar releases hotfix patch soon with proper support for modems, routers, dynamic ips... I dunno... networks and online play maybe?

--edit--

Hey! I fixed it! Or made it at least much more possible to eventually establish session connection. All I 've done is as the following:

- Take START > NETWORK (if u havn't got it, just do propeties of start menu and enable NETWORK menu) > select your router and hit propeties > in the first tab hit SETTINGS > click ADD button > name your configuration (in the smart way) > type in your local IP, type in port number (just one), select protocol, type in the SAME port again into bottom place and hit APPLY. Now do this over and over again with all the left ports the game uses (list of potrs is available in the conectivity troobleshooting article on R* support page). Try to track somehow (I was using kaspersky network traffic monitor to do that) ports used by social club and also enter them in routers configurations in NETWORK menu.

And now - go to your routers web-based panel and forward the ports again in it. Ensure that uPnP is enabled (this is the thing, we just did in NETWORK start menu) and also ensure that u use proper DNS'es (you must contact with your ISP in order to do that). Now you can DMZ your pc just to be sure, all ports will be opened (but this should be unecessary).

After I've done that - I was able to connect to full lobbies, friends and crews very often (still not every time) and even I was able to quick join their session if they changed it. There are still very deep issues with invites, online status for others and such, but its minor with ability to join people! Downside of this solution are said invitation bugs and much less security as you've opened bunch of ports directly by forcing windows to force router to keep specified ports clean all the time.

Anyways hope that these steps will work for you too and R* will patch the game soon, so it will have support for super-duper crazy network setups (just like other games and programs have no problems with them) ;)

If u need help with setting this, watch this video:

Yeah, I know its klingon one, but it shows at lease navigation and method to set things up in windows :) Hope it helps somehow

Im giving this a shot right now. But one problem is that I am not able to see my router in my Network tab. It doesn't show as a device. Im just assuming this is because I don't have any sort of USB connecting it to my PC. All I have going from my router to my PC is an ethernet cable.

I did all of the port opening/fowarding in both the properties and the online browser setup. My uPnP is enabled but i dont know what the proper DNS settings are. without the DNS stuff I have tried to just DMZ it but it didnt work. I have been thinking it could be because of my NAT settings... they might be set to moderate or strict so im thinking i need to call my ISP for that aswell.

Yeah - that thing done in the NETWORK menu can be considered as "NAT openning" - u must set proper DNS'es - It's a must. Plus - my ISP said, that I should try to request public ip (It involves contacting with customer service, writing such request and may cost some money) because thats the problem from their perspective. So It's not only you have to open NAT in windows, and in router - you also have to open NAT at ISP servers (which is obviously impossible unless you have public ip). So - yeah - I believe thats the case.

You shouldn't need to open ports on PC. PC games require only one port to be open, port 80. Port forwarding is for consoles because consoles are mostly P2P.

And I'll warn you, do not put your PC under a DMZ. That opens your PC up to a ton malware, adware, trojans, etc. That's like leaving the front door open in a crime-filled neighborhood.

You are afflicted with The CurseTM. We have a steam thread setup discussing the issue here (https://steamcommunity.com/app/271590/discussions/0/611703709831944098/)

Keep an eye on that thread, if there is a solution it will be posted there. Most of us found a fix using Avast Secureline VPN, but it is only a patchwork measure.

Mine thing is doing just fine - I've been able to easily connect and play with friends again today. And yeah - DMZ thing isn't that safe, but it is not that "instant death" too. And if DMZ is not working, port forwarding will neither.
