Horrible FPS w/ GTX 980M [help]

Buy a real computer. I'm not sure if it says it on this game, but every other game sys. requirements say "laptop versions of these chips may work but are not supported".

Gaming with a laptop is like racing with a Prius. It's not made for it. Stop trying.

I beg to differ I have a gtx 860M 2ig witch is 25x lower than his card. and get a butter smooth 39-59fps. Using a mix of high and very high settings

And also your card op, rivals even the desktop gtx 760. Just thought I throw that out there.

Well I'm getting a rock solid 60FPS in 4K with almost all settings at max.

My laptop has a i7-4910MQ with dual 980M's

50-60 fps high / very high settings.

your 980m should absolutely tear trough this game like a hot knife trough butter. You sure you have it set to maximum performance in power options?

As for the clown statement "Gaming with a laptop is like racing with a Prius. It's not made for it. Stop trying.".....yeah......lol.

No it isnt a desktop, true that, but they certainly do gaming, and they do it well. very well actually.

Dont get your panties in a bunch guy. That comment isnt what he was asking for. He should reasonably with the right settings get 60fps. Hopefully others can help you. Google your problem, apparently here isnt the correct place.

If he had a desktop he might reasonably get 60fps. Laptops aren't supported, sorry to burst everyone's bubble. I don't see why everyone expects 60fps from their craptops and ancient desktops with a brand new game that was made for 4k and super high-end systems. It. Won't. Happen. The bar for next generation PC gaming has just been set and 90% of machines were made obsolete the second this game came out. Hell, when GTA IV came out I knew there was no chance in hell I'd run it at 60fps but I didn't go complaining on forums about a brand new state-of-the-art game not running on my old as dirt system.

I just f*cking love these ignorant assholes like you. You can only say laptops aren't good for games when you never owned one. Nobody cares about your ultimate PC, how about that ? What if I told you there's also people on PCs that are having fps problems with the game ?

Automaticaly assuming his game isn't running well because he has a "craptop" is just pure ignorance and stupidity. Please get the hell out of the topic if you have 0 experience and knowledge with laptops capable of gaming. We are not talking about running the game on your dads Mac or a thinkpad for 200$, these beasts can rival with destkops very easily. His GPU is almost equal to a GTX 760. just for your info.

Next thing, what if I told you I am running the game on Very High/High settings on even less powefull "craptop" than he is ? You are just wrong on too many levels so I'm just gonna leave you get back to your troll nest.

I have an Asus ROG G751JY

GTX 980M 4gb

i7-4710HQ

24gb RAM

I only get 22fps while playing GTA V; 40fps being the best I've seen so far on my laptop -- and this is only using the default graphics settings. Aren't I supposed to be getting around/above 60fps? I even overclocked my GPU using MSI afterburner but still no luck. I'm new to the realm of PC gaming so this is frustrating to me.

I need some help/input/advice on why I'm getting such low FPS. Is it my Nvidia control panel settings? My drivers are updated btw. Help a noobie please and thank you!

Hi there, make sure you go to Nvidia panel and set the game to use your Nvidia GPU instead of Intel.

Check the in-game settings and lower down / turn off these settings (they are the fps killers) :

MSAA, Grass quality, Shader quality,Reflection MSAA, Population Variety, Tesselation and also all of the settings in "advanced"

Next thing you should do is repair the game (not sure how it is on different version that retail, but I just put in Disc 1 and click repair)

Be sure you installed the Nvidia drivers correctly by performing a clean install and restarting afterwards.

Crucial thing is to keep your laptop cool while playing. Cooling pad is a must and what helps extremly is when you take the case of the laptop down and put it directly on a cooling pad.

Try these things out and see if anything helps. You should have no problem achieving 60 fps on decent settings with your laptop.

All my Nvidia settings are using high performance mode. V sync uses the 3D application settings. I don't know if I should turn that on, off, or adaptive?

They do after they play PC version and go back to their 30fps console version.

Out of the blue here but try to run a malware/virus scan they also can impact performance pretty big regardless of how powerful your graphics card is.

Looks like you're getting that 30 fps lock for no reason... Same thing happens to me in some parts of the map. To stop the fps lock I tab out, open up task manager and disable x4 subprocess.exe (social club ui), then right click gtav.exe and set to high priority, and tab back in and I'm back to 60fps.

You could also disable vsync in game and then enable it and triple buffering with nvidia control panel.

I'm on a desktop, idk if it will work for you, good luck.

Op where did you get that laptop? and how much did you pay for it? what i'm guessing is your using a 2,000$ rig. Also doing research on the 980m and it looks like it supports 4k. According to nvidia website.

Thing is it's not locked at 30, it can go up to 60fps in SOME areas, but 95% it's 30fps and below

Disable mcafee's real time protection,

switch shadows to "soft" (you shouldn't notice much difference and we're just lowering it for now)

Put your shaders up to very high, no problem.

Put anisotropic filtering to 8x.

Turn off AO.

Temporarily disable Tesselation as well.

If these effects being changed lets you get more FPS, now disable fxaa (it really is a sh*t) and enable your MSAAx2 for starters. Enable the "MFAA" in nvidia control panel, which will make your MSAA faster and slightly higher quality at the same time. Then, if all goes well, plop it on up to msaa4x and avoid FXAA and TXAA.

I didn't like the quality of AO for the most part, and disabling it got me a lot more performance. I have a 960 desktop gpu, and your card is still significantly better, so try these.

One other thing is if you can disable hyperthreading for this game, try that too. Just in case (I had seen no-hyperthreading work for others with i7s, and wasn't able to test it myself because I have i5, no hyperthreading in these)

I have a good feeling we'll find a sweet spot now.
