sjaak327
I seem to remember Rockstar claiming that one could play GTAV on PC without an internet connection. However there doesn't seem to be a way to do just that. This morning a patch was forced down my throat and I didn't want to wait 1.5 hours for a 352 MB download. Before anyone says, I have two internet connections with a combined bandwith of 530/570 mbit/s so don't ask me why downloading 352 mb could possibly take 1.5 hours. Anyway, I simply disable internet on my box, and voila, there is no possible way to get the game running. After a while it figures out there is no internet connection and shows a screen that allows you to select offline mode. Once pressed, the social club comes complaining that I need to activate the game, despite the fact that I've been running the game since last Tuesday. Bottom line, there doesn't seem to be a way to play without internet connection and as a result, there doesn't seem to be a way to decide you don't want a certain patch. Remember all the bollocks when Microsoft suggested the xbox one should report in once a day ? Everyone but the cat was in panic. Rockstar has done one better, if you don't have an internet connection, or if it's down for some reason, you simply cannot play the game. True always on. Why does Rockstar get a free pass I wonder. choc4444
i found this out when i 1st purchased the retail copy of the game even if the social club goes down you can not play the game so what i did was login load up my saved game the purposely unplug the ethernet cable and save the game in offline mode then i exited the game and restart the launcher the game came up with play offline sure enough it loaded and i was able to play the game i backed up the whole rockstar folder in C but when i upgraded from win 8.1 to win 10 there was another update i found that i could not play the game in offline mode with my saves a message said offline is only available on pc machines that have previously registered the game i think theres some sort of file that is written in either the registry or the saved game files folder as to what operating system and graphics card the game is using in offline mode ? _MK_
as i posted here use this commandline -scOfflineOnly you log in offline not 100% if it works for disc version Even with that you need to be connected to the internet in order to play the game, here read this. And no,we can't do anything about it since SC verifies every time you start the game. Edited July 6, 2015 by _MK_

scalliano
Why does Rockstar get a free pass I wonder. Because PC, sadly. It sucks, but there's f*ck-all we can do, because as PC players we're all criminals, apparently. Just ask Ubisoft. It's not the first, it won't be the last. The reason the XBOne caused such a furore was because it's a console, and what it was offering was all of the drawbacks of PC gaming with none of the perks. In my experience it will require an activation check every five days (rough estimate). Thus is IS possible to prevent a patch from installing, it does however not enable someone with no internet connection to actually play the game after the fist "one time" activation, contrary to the claims made by R. sjaak327
^they did ? well this is from the requirements published by R: Other requirements: Installation and online play requires log-in to Rockstar Games Social Club (13+) network; Internet connection required for activation, online play, and periodic entitlement verification https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/203428177-Grand-Theft-Auto-V-PC-System-Specs It does not state a requirement for an internet connection to actually play the game, and that is exactly what is happening here. sjaak327
No it does not state an internet connection is required to play the game. "Periodic entitlement verification" LOL, my initial OP was 100% on the money, they are pulling a Microsoft Xbox stunt, and getting away with it. I am already entitled to the game, as I paid for it and I activated it. End of story, all the rest is marketing bollocks.
