Please support this support ticket - Various connectivity issues

So whichever platform we're playing on I think we can all agree that since the heists update the invite system, matchmaking and general connectivity of the game has become a cruel joke, an exercise in head-bashing frustration. You seem to spend more time sat in the clouds or reading error messages than you do playing with friends or crew members and what have we heard on the subject from R*? Not even the courtesy of a "We're aware of the issues and we're working around the clock on rectifying these issues so our customers can get back to enjoying our game".

No, just a disgusting, deadly silence. Here is just a small sample of the myriad of issues players are experiencing currently:

- When in freeroam, invites cannot be sent as most players have not completed the tutorial, according to R* servers.

- When in a 'invite only' session, you cannot be invited to another session, as you haven't completed the tutorial.

- When hosting a job or a playlist, invites cannot be sent to most players as they either do not have a ranking number next to their name or they have a blue globe, denoting they haven't completed the tutorial.

- Invites cannot be sent to players in online sessions, but CAN be sent to players not even connected to GTA Online!

- Playlists can very rarely be rejoined once connection has been lost and many players have issues connecting to them AT ALL particularly when they have started, even if they are trying to rejoin through a player in a party chat session.

- There are various matchmaking issues that players have reported, usually broken connections that keep players hanging about in clouds for several infuriating minutes before they receive the common message 'player no longer in session' or 'the game you are trying to join no longer exists'.

PLEASE, for ALL of our sakes upvote this ticket to Rockstar support and share your connectivity woes. Let's ensure this issue becomes R* NO.1 concern, let's make sure this issue becomes a bad smell around the offices of Rockstar worldwide until it is fixed and even head-honcho The Benz is constantly bombarded by it on his desk!

https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/communities/public/questions/203348848-GTAVO-Joining-sessions-and-playlists

Honestly, this issue makes me think of channeling Howard Beale from Network, "I'm Mad As Hell And I'm Not Going To Take It Any More!"

Neither should you. Act now, let's end the misery once and for all!

I thought they fixed the invite disabled thing due to tutorial error a long time ago? It was fixed for me at least, sorry to hear about your problem though.

As far as connection; timing out, all players leaving the lobby, the dreaded "return to GTA V" error message. Take a look at a thread I started, some awesome people put some really well thought out posts as to a possible explanation of why these issues occur so frequently (I would put the post on here, but unfortunately I am on my phone).

Where you been?

This has been an issue since day one.

Obviously Rockstar doesn't care.

Good luck tho.

Being pulled out of Invite Only Free Mode just to see "Player is no longer in session" and it's equivalents sure make me angry.

Even worse, it can't even put me back to Invite Only. This game is truly obsessed with long loading screens.

Jesus Christ people, we bitch and moan about how poor the online is on this game and expect Rockstar* to do something about it, here is the PERFECT opportunity to shove the problem down their throats so they HAVE to listen and what happens? People can't even take two seconds to upvote the topic so it becomes a big deal for them! :barf:

Honestly, this planet, we can get sh*te like 'Gangnam Style' to go viral with a billion hits on Youtube but we can't get people to help themselves and improve a game we all love and are sick and tired of seeing getting worse and worse with every update.

I bet in the same time since I posted this topic DomisLive or some other cancerous Youtube idiot has gotten 100,00 hits talking utter sh*t.

I despair, I really do. :-(

I don't understand why all you people rage at Rockstar about connection issues. The fault lies in either yours or someone you are trying to connect to, internet connection. There are no server issues for them to fix. When you get hung up in the clouds that is due to a spike in your data transfer. Player not in session? Same thing happened to them.

The only way for this to be fixed is if Rockstar got DEDICATED SERVERS. Right now it is all peer to peer. You are depending on the other 15/29 people in your session to provide you with a place to play online. Dedicated servers will never happen because that will require Rockstar to re-write the online game code for pretty much every thing. They are not going to re-write all that code for a game that is already a year old (online).

In conclusion, stop bitching to Rockstar about something that they do not control.

I'm curious, are you saying there are no servers? There's no data transfer other than console to console? I don't think that's entirely accurate, though I do not fully understand the method they use, and attempts to research the exact technology behind the game hasn't turned up much. There has to be a service we're connecting to, much like any other online game.

Further, I don't experience problems in Last of Us Online like I do with GTA Online or any other online game I play..

Edit:

I found a decent explanation rite hurr on des forums.

Rockstar can' control it, it's really that simple, believe me... Will they ever recognise the error comes from their end though ? Most likely not.

I mean who enjoys bad press, huh ? They rather have IGN and the likes write the smoothest game reviews you will ever witness, how everything is perfectly balanced ect. all of that still attracts a wider audience, so really they could care less about the few of us who are struggling with the "cloud" or some other sh*t.

Also it is just a f*cking game, it shouldn't mess with your head so much. If you are tired of these issues give it a rest already, there's no point in battling the ineluctable.

Although Atheist's ways of talking about R* servers is aggressive and sometimes can go off-topic, you have to admit that the servers and problems with GTA Online as of now are absolutely heinous and a drag to go through if you want to get to the good stuff. He's got valid points and other criticisms that R* need to seriously work out if they want to keep their Online community.

Oh yeah, and to people saying that it's because of "your connection", I have a stable ping of 5 ms and I encounter closer to none in online problems in other games such as Dying Light, Battlefield Hardline, and even f*cking Watch Dogs. The server problems in this game are in-excusable.

Well, I think that's about the crux of it. They are not an online game, the game is the single player, the online is just an addon that they felt they needed to put together. It's massively oversubscribed, it doesn't make as much cash as is needed to keep it a focus of development, and it'll be replaced when GTA 6 hits the shelves before next Christmas.

It is what it is. It cannot be re-coded from the ground up, only patched and given minor improvements.

If people want a good multiplayer game, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Watchdogs etc are built for that. The equivalent to GTA Online is the Batman Arkham online experience, both games sell on single player experience and the online is buggy and does not work 100%.

But the OP is ranting like an old crazy person. Making demands, shouting at people because he's got no idea why his hate doesn't get 1000,000,0000 up votes a second. It's mildly annoying, but it's still an online experience that's 100 % more than was expected when the game came out, and very few people bought the game to play online only.

Basically, the op is an ass. I'm not upvoting an ass.

OP isn't an ass, he's asking for fellow GTA players, on a forum for GTA players, to get behind something he feels very passionately about, if you actually took the time to check the link for the support ticket you would see, it's not even OP's support ticket.

To say GTA Online is simply an 'add-on' is laughable too.

GTA Online is an addon. Only 2 of the 11 games have an online feature. What's the main sell? The single player game. Again, look at the Batman Arkham games, the main sell is the game and the online is terrible.

The OP is a self important ass, starting an argument and a fight. I'll say it again in the hope it sinks in, the code is already in place for online and all they can do is release minor patches, not rewrite the code. It cannot be 'fixed'.

This is what happens here, topics get derailed by morons constantly.

It's probably for the best that nobody pays attention to them.

--------------------

To bypass all the connection issues the only way I know how at present is my setting up a party chat, and getting players to join via it, otherwise it can be impossible via the game.

This is not an issue of my own to fix, nor is it to do the connection of friends, it's a problem only Rockstar can fix.

Why make a big deal out of it?

Well first of all it's frustrating because unless you pre-arrange get togethers you won't fill up lobbies because the matchmaking is bad (the population of players is wrongly divided by aim preference - free aim for the win, and then it's too stretched by the sheer amount of game mode options)...so when pre-arranged get togethers are organised (this takes a bit of time and effort) for the game to just let you down is quite despairing, why should it be so difficult to get people back into a playlist once it has launched? Why can't you invite all your friends to the same invite only session without the tutorial error stopping you?

Rockstar need to fix these and be made aware.

You can't help but think if the issues were leading to players exploiting in game $ they would get fixed way quicker, but the enjoyment of players is low on the priority list.

Seriously some people on here are complete morons. You ask for help and you get shot down by idiots saying stop blaming the world for your problems.

This connection issues are very real and have been the worst ever since heists. Please tell me how when I have over 100 friends online, I can only invite about 4 of those, I never receive invites anymore and that is my problem.

Come on people. Up vote this so r* cannot continue to ignore this issue. Every single race crew I know of are receiving this problem, and every single one of my psn friends are too.

I've experienced all of the issues noted in the OP, some have existed for quite a while, but the most annoying for me is the 'invite disabled/player has not completed the tutorial' issue that has almost ruined the game for me since heists

A lot of people seem to be denying these issues... I have nearly 200 GTA players on PSN, but yet I can only invite a very small amount of players to any job or freemode session.

Try for yourselves, press start and scroll through your friends and try to invite them to your lobby, only those currently in a public session or playing a different game are gonna receive the invite.

Exactly, you're on my PSN list and I haven't seen an invite from you in a long time, and I also can't invite you to the majority of jobs.

The only work-around for that is to stay in a public lobby. If you're in a crew, invite or solo session then you'll only receive invites from randoms via the (also broken) skill matched feature.

Up vote from me.

So, it's clear that some people on here at least understand that a lot of the problems are purely at R* end, particularly the invites being disabled. That said, some of you... :sui:

I don't understand why all you people rage at Rockstar about connection issues. The fault lies in either yours or someone you are trying to connect to, internet connection. In conclusion, stop bitching to Rockstar about something that they do not control.

Rockstar* writes the network code so it's at least partially their fault. They could make it so that in freeroam for instance it finds the player with the best connection to host the session. When they leave it finds the next best player etc, same way COD etc has done for years. Dedicated servers? Yes, they would fix the issue, and honestly considering the long-term plan laid out by the company before GTAV even dropped you'd have figured they'd have considered this the best option. On old-gen 16 players was bad enough at times but when they upped it to 30 players on next-gen the sh*t really hit the fan. They should have left it at 16 players, neither their sh*tty cloud servers nor their entry-level network coders are competent enough to make a game as complex as GTAV work in a P2P environment. If they actually employed a team of dedicated coders with experience of complex, large-scale networking operations they could fix the majority of these issues for the vast majority of players so only those who continue to insist the game is playable with two tin cans and a ball of string will continue to experience problems.

Well, I think that's about the crux of it. They are not an online game, the game is the single player, the online is just an addon that they felt they needed to put together. The fact you equate Watchdogs to a 'good' online game is laughable enough, but to equate GTA: Online with Batman: Arkham Online? Man, give me some of what you're smoking! Even before GTAV came out the head honcho of Rockstar*, one The Benz, was interviewed by CvG about GTA: Online and he said they intended for this to be a long-term project that would span across multiple Grand Theft Auto titles. He went on to claim that the team has ideas for enough content additions to last 20 years. Does that sound like short-term addon that will be replaced as soon as GTA6 hits next Christmas? :pp Yeah, it's massively oversubscribed, granted, but they made billions selling the game again and again, first on old-gen, then on next-gen and now the long awaited PC version. Some people have or will buy the game three times! Not to mention Shark Cards, which, cost them NOTHING to make and yet people give them real-life money to be able to get virtual currency to spend on their next all-chrome monstrosity. Please, don't for one second try to claim poverty for poor Rockstar*, struggling to feed their families on their pitiful allowance! The least we can expect for that is a game that works properly online and doesn't make the simple fact of joining our friends or our crew mates such a continually irritating ordeal. GTA: Online is a part of GTAV period. You can play single player without touching online but you MUST own the game to be able to play GTA: Online. So when we buy the game we are buying BOTH single player and Online versions. There is no divide and we as customers expect the same level of quality control right across the board!

OP isn't an ass, he's asking for fellow GTA players, on a forum for GTA players, to get behind something he feels very passionately about, if you actually took the time to check the link for the support ticket you would see, it's not even OP's support ticket.

I wish it was my support ticket, I really do. Do you think if it was my support ticket it would be composed with such brevity? Or contain a multitude of spelling and grammatical errors? It's from a fellow crew member who composed it in frustration after yet another official crew event suffered from players not being able to participate due to the above-mentioned issues. IF I 'd have composed a ticket it would have been much more detailed, about five times longer and I would have proofread it thoroughly before submission. After all, this is the ticket I want to end up on the desk of the VP of Rockstar*, so i'd want it as good as can be!

Support our small community, don't belittle em.

Thank you for the support! See, you're both in a crew that likes to play together in events just like me. I wonder, is it large crews that are experiencing these issues more than others? Is the reason so many others are dismissive of the problems because their GTA: Online sessions largely consist of driving around freeroam in their chrome supercars, lobbing sticky bombs and proximity mines at unsuspecting foes all in the aim of increasing their kill/death ratio just a little more, which they then wear as a badge of honour to display their 'awesomeness' at the game and spend the next day bragging about that 'epic pwnage' with their friends in the playground?

Or is it simply that the majority of players in the GTA Online community are bonafide idiots?

To those of you that have supported this ticket and actually understand that the majority of issues experienced ARE the fault, at least in part, of the company who makes the game, I thank you. To everyone else... :die:

Analysing, analysing...

Well, it's up to 51 upvotes now, not bad but we can do MUCH better! It takes two seconds and Rockstar will not fix ANYTHING unless we hassle them, so take a moment and do your part to help your fellow community please. :-)

Also, bear in mind the support ticket doesn't tell the whole story, as well as those issues there are frankly awful problems with invites and matchmaking as stated in the OP.
