Not seeing the performance I expected.

HD 7970

AMD FX-6300 6-Core Black Edition

16 GB RAM

Everything on high, no AA and I'm only averaging 37-45 FPS. It's briefly dropped below 30 a couple times.

Did I overestimate my hardware or should I be seeing better?

Clean your graphic card if theres alot of dust

You should definitevely be able to play 1080p, maybe lower your setting to medium, make sure you dont use too much vram in the grpahics setting

The performance is great except for the annoying stuttering after 10-30 min of play.

The game runs perfekt on high setting and suddenly after the above mentioned period of time starts to stutter like hell from time to time.

Maybe your graphic card is too hot so it needs to lower the perfomance sonit doesnt fry.

Try lowerering you vram usage

It runs just the same for me, i have Phenom II x4 970 3.5 Ghz and R9 280 3GB, so i guess it's as it should be, performance wise.. thought your cpu is little bit better than mine.

AMD cpu's suck hard on GTA V.. even FX 8350 gets powned by the same price range intel - i5 4460

- Drivers are up to date.

- Nothing running in the background

- 1080p

- All advanced settings are off.

Just turned everything down to "normal" and not much improvement. Still struggles to hit 50 FPS and still drops to low 30's.

Dumb question here. How do I lower vram usage?

GrandTeaRedemption

Your vram usage automatically lowers when you lower your graphic setting.

I'm not getting much performance difference from normal settings to very high. Taking everything down might get me an extra 4-5 FPS on average.

Some people say the last patch ruined amd gpu, wait for a later update to optimize it better for amd cards.

I am genuinely not using this as a chance to attack PC games or gamers, so please don't think I am, but this is why I am hesitant to spend more time or money on PC games, because I hate the thought of spending a lot of time trying to figure out issues like this. I'm not very tech savvy and work a ton so I don't have much free time as it is. When I am home and get to play, I would rather just press a button and start my game up.

I'm really sorry about your issues and I hope you get them figured out soon. I don't know if you did play it previously or not but it is a great game. It's also possible that some patches may hopefully come soon to improve or fix a lot of the problems PC users have had so far. Best of luck to you. :)

I guess the stuttering after a period of time has something to do with memory leak or overflooding RAM or VRAM. It has to be a game bug. Since the game can run perfect up to 40 Minutes with 35-60 FPS on my Setup it cant be any Temperature Problem.

It is not stuttering on low FPS just the whole game seems to hang for half a second or dip to 10 FPS.

I can run BF4 on Ultra no problem. So to turn most of the GTAV visuals down and still struggle to hit 50 FPS has to be a bug or some kind of optimization issue.

Strange, my FX8350 is handling this game like a kitten.

My FX 8350 with R9 290 runs pretty smooth, I get 60fps with occasional drops to 45-50fps almost everything maxed out at 1080p

Probably just me... but you posting how it performs for you doesn't really help.

My 4690k and GTX 780 is getting really bad performance too. I feel ya op.

I had the same problem after fresh install with my R9 280X (technically a 7970 too).

After installing the Catalyst 15.4 Beta driver which bas been officially optimized for GTA V (see the link), the game runs supersmooth with overall 15-20 FPS more than before.

In all honesty , the FX 6300 is sh*t.

In the unoptimized mess that is GTA IV , I got better framerates with an i3 3210. I bought an FX 6300 and a new motherboard hoping for better performance since it has '6 cores' .I was highly disappointed to find out that my old i3 3210 actually performed better.

This might also be the case with GTA V but I can't tell you for sure since I don't have the game yet.

That's what everyone is saying but I'm damn well sure its not true, this game doesn't know how to use ram and vram correctly so all it does it amasses it by driving around until the game becomes a mess of stutters.

The trick of setting the game priority to high while you set the launcher and social club to low has proven to work for me, the game will have an extended time before the stutter kicks in. So I'm well sure its not my fault of my pc.

The only way I can enjoy this game is to complete a mission and reload it again.

the game runs like sh*t on AMD cpu/gpu's.

my 290 struggles to get a stable 60fps at 1080p with everything on "High". completely sh*ts itself near grass and drops to about 30fps. and the game looks terrible with the lack of AA/good shadows.

Thats because AMD's have really weak cores. i3 4150 is a match for FX 8320.
