So I've got a descent PC - Fx 6300 , r9 270 OC and 6 gigs of ram . For some reason the game always runs at 20-40fps sometimes gets to 50 . And I am gettin stuttering all the time , its unplayable . In the prologue mission I had a good 50+ fps and the game ran great . I tried installing the new driver , makes no difference , any suggestions ? I'd really aprecciate your help :)

For me this game can actually run my computer OVER 6GB of ram. Heck, maybe that's not normal...

I'd suggest downloading something like MSI afterburner and using the onscreen display to check everything is getting used correctly. It may just be your ram though. Pretty often i find myself at 5400 being used

Well fps almost doesnt change when i change settings I dont think thats normal :(

Have you tried alt-tabbing the game to check the task manager for how much ram you're using? It's weird that your fps stays the same even when you lower the settings.

Ill check now

Its using like 2 gigs of it .

I even changed the resolution to 800x600 , same fps ...

Are you sure all your drivers are up to date? Including audio, chipset, etc? What about windows updates? Are you running any applications on the background? Check the task manager if there's anything eating cpu cycles, ram etc.

No apps running on the bacground . And the thing is that when I play its like the game doesnt use any Cpu or ram , the cpu stays at like 20% and the game uses 2-3 gigs of RAM . And I stopped windows updates like 2 days ago

Max out EVERYTHING and see if it uses more cpu (and also GPU by using GPU-Z) with v sync off (so your gpu works at it's 100%), this way it should absolutely use every resource you have, try that first.

CPU usage is still low I think thats the problem , I maxed almost everything and the afg fps was 20 , now I changed the settings to normal/high and avg fps is 30 ... :(

Go into Task Manager and close GTALauncher while in game. The launcher runs at 1000fps most of the time so it uses the GPU more than the actual game does. With this you'll also increase your FPS by like 10+ fps i think.

Good Luck! :)

I have same problem like OP. No matter what, same fps.. jumping from 24 to 45. Ram usage is bettwen 2-3GB, cpu is average 70%. Temperatures are ok, max 60 on cpu and gpu.

Have latest amd beta drivers, new codecs, directx is ok, no background apps. Ingame Vram usage is 1500MB max.

intel cpu quad core 2,5ghz

2x 4gb ddr3 1333mhz

gigabyte r9 270x-oc 2gb

power 600w

LG IPS monitor, 60hz

Tried it , but the cpu usage is still at like 10-20 % And im pretty sure that GTA V needs more cpu usag than that .

Please: download GPU-Z, go to the 'Sensors' tab, and where it says your gpu load, click it untill it says 'max' in green letters, now it'll register your highest gpu usage, now leave it in the background and open the game again, and max out EVERYTHING, msaa 8x everything! leave v sync off and explode some cars or something, alt tab the game and check at how much gpu usage the graph peaked (it should say 99%) if it doesn't, then there's something else going on.

Maybe your cpu is running too hot and downclocking, you could download cpu-z and leave it in the background while playing, alt tab the game and make sure your cpu is running at it's MAX clock speeds, (I don't know the idle and max clock speeds for your cpu, sorry).

I think its your CPU, because i always get 80%+ cpu usage when playing. Try these solution:

1. Ctrl alt del while playing then right click on GTAV.exe then choose set affinity then check all the option in there.

2. Go to Windows Control Panel then Power Options then choose High Performance.

3. CPU throttling maybe, like the guys above said.

Yup its CPU throttling I just noticed , so what can i do about it ? And also can you answer me if that is why my games are stuttering under 60 fps ? Thanks a lot to anyone who helped me btw :)

Stuttering under 60fps is normal (you should disable v sync if your framerate goes below that too often, it makes the whole experience smoother).

well, you have 2 options now: buy a better case with better airflow, or go buy an aftermarket cooler for your cpu (I suggest both).

Clean your CPU heatsink or get a new one.

The case is pretty good , the cooler is the problem , I am still using the one that comes with the cpu . And thanks for wasting your time with me , you really helped :)

We're here to help! At least you're on the right track now, clean your cpu heatsink as someone suggested and report back!

Thank you all :) I solve my problem. And now run just fine for my rig setup on high settings, Vsync off, tesselation off.

Run windows update/install all updates

Enable high performance in power settings (I think this is most important)

Make sure you have all latest drivers

Yup now I know for sure the problem is my cpu throttling, while I play the cpu speed drops to 1,4ghz from 3,7 ghz I guess I need a new cooler . Im thinking about Cooler Master Hyper T4 or Cooler Master Hyper 103 , which one would you recommend ? Im also going to change the thermal paste .
