HunterIV4
First and foremost...I am enjoying the heck out of this game. It's a ton of fun, and I've waited a long time for it to come out on PC, having refused to buy it on consoles. And that makes my experience a few minutes ago all the more frustrating. For context, I preordered the Steam version of the game. I've played about 7 hours so far with no real issues (all single player). Then, in the middle of a cutscene, the game stops working and says I've been logged out of the Social Club. No warning, no pause...I go straight to a loading screen. Why? Apparently it didn't like my 7 character password I'd set up two days ago, and wanted me to make it longer. I did, and rather than let me start where I left off after rudely interrupting my game, it goes back to a brand new game. So I have to load my progress, which means I have to restart my entire mission and drive back there. I'd understand if it were a crash. Those happen. I'd even understand if I were playing in multiplayer, and there were server issues. But after paying $60 for a single player game, getting my progress reset because of a password issue is frustrating as heck. In the grand scheme of things, it's a minor hiccup, but it felt like a huge slap in the face after waiting a year and a half for this game to finally grace my PC so I wouldn't have to deal with console stupidity. How naive, apparently. I won't go into it because the passive-aggressive rules at the top of the forums say I'll be banned (and yes, there is a huge amount of irony about keeping it "clean" and not discussing illegal activity in the forums for a game with "Theft" right in the title) but stuff like this makes me sorely tempted to "fix" my purchased copy so I don't have to deal with your broken DRM. The [censored] aren't dealing with it. Nice to know people who don't support you are getting a better game experience than I am. Thanks. RedIndianRobin
Once again, please report all these issues to Rockstar support. They may not reply, but they'll monitor these situations and hopefully release fixes in their upcoming patches.
HunterIV4
Once again, please report all these issues to Rockstar support. They may not reply, but they'll monitor these situations and hopefully release fixes in their upcoming patches. The issue isn't the point. Obviously it wasn't intended, but the situation was created because they are more concerned with copy protection than user experience. It's sort of like if I'm walking down the street, and the cops arrest me because I sorta maybe might have looked like a suspect, beat the crap out of me, take all my money, and then say "hey, we'll monitor your feedback, and hopefully fix it in an upcoming law. In the meantime, shut the heck up and no, you can't complain or have your money back. You might have been a criminal." The most insulting part is that I've already accepted the DRM...I bought the game through Steam. To date, however, Steam hasn't kicked me out of a game because of their issues. That's my problem; not that the error exists, but the assumption that I'm a criminal so they better lock me out pronto. It's one thing for a store to have inventory control systems. It's another to frisk your customers as they leave the store. If it were a tech support problem, I'd just have reported it to support. This, however, is a tech sabotage problem, and the only way I can voice my displeasure and still support the developers (because I do, the game is great) is by letting them know publicly that this behavior is hurting their fans. Fuzzknuckles
Would it be rude of me to say 'glorious PC master race' at this point? Signatures are dumb anyway.
HunterIV4
[update] Two weeks later and more social club BS. I haven't been able to play all week due to work, sit down this weekend to play and typed my old password, once, by mistake. Oops, no big deal, right? Just type in the correct password and move on. Oh, wait, apparently a single wrong password attempt locks you out of your account. So I attempted to reset my password, assuming that would fix it. It sends me an email, I reset my password, everything is good to go. Hahaha, no. My account is still locked. Well, darn, time to search for some solutions. After about 15 minutes scoring forums, I find a "fix." Logging in to the website version of the Social Club supposedly clears the block. Ok, I'll do that. I go to the Rockstar site, log in and... Actually, I can't log in. The log in button does nothing, just sits there when I click it. Why? No idea. I figure maybe I should try a different browser (using Chrome) so I dust of Internet Explorer and sure enough, it logs me in and that fixes the issue. Why didn't a simple login screen work in Chrome? I don't know, why does a single failed login attempt lock your account and force you to reset your password? All for a game that already requires me to log into Steam to play in the first place. In other words, all my issues are due to the DRM added on top of already existing DRM (which, incidentally, actually works correctly). Thank you, Rockstar, for giving me the most frustrating play experience I've had in a game since Diablo III. And they still had a better justification for it than you. I'm going to go murder Los Santos in retribution. Sigh, it would be so easy to hate if the game wasn't so darn fun (which makes it that much worse) =(

HunterIV4
Oh, wait, apparently a single wrong password attempt locks you out of your account. Huh? I typed in my password wrong a single time. I didn't get a "your password was incorrect, please try again" error, I got a "you've attempted to login too many times, your account has been locked." Typing in the correct password didn't work (same error). So unless someone has been randomly trying to brute force my account (and stopped one short of getting locked out) a single failed login attempt locks your account until you log into the website (but not with Chrome, apparently). Well clearly it said "many times". With the recent Social Club "hack", maybe your account was on the list or something and you changed your password.
