Replay GTA IV but on what platform ?

Hey everyone!

So since gta V came out and I finished it 2 years ago on 360 (and don't actually like it all that much... just hated story, characters, music and driving physics + car damage model.. but that is a different topic)

I think it's time for a reply. Now, I have a 360 version since it's release and that's where I've finished it when it came out and pc steam version. I have good pc. oc 2500k and 7870... Now I remember 360 version looking and being amazing. launched it today, it loaded new patch and it still looks amazing. Those graphics and physics are really unique. Contrast is way too dark on 360 tho.

Pc version, I've never finished but have many hours put into it. Mainly for tweaking purposes. I am running it maxed with water fix and 30fps cap. Reshade for fxaa, oversharpen and curves. But the game imo still looks worse than 360 version (besides resolution). Dof is way better on 360 despite lower resolution. It is just delivered differentyl. Lighting seems a bit different, contrast and brightness are way different with pc version looking bleak no matter what.

I've set 360 and pc on different outputs on the same monitor and switched over to compare and I can't reproduce the original 360 look on pc but with higher resolution. There is just something to it. No wonder people hated the game on pc.

Am I the only one noticing the differences ?

If you want a DoF effect on the PC, try turning on/off definition.

I know "p" key but it makes it blurrier than on console counterpart...the differences are all over the place. But I still prefer to play with definition off because I want motion blur and the dof occasionally looks good

Xbox 360 looks the best without mods. PC can have better graphics than GTA5 if you use mods

Well I am playing without mods.

Found something interesting.

pc version looks very similiar to pc version if I will limit gamma to 16-235 with sweetfx. Then it's as too dark as xbox 360... oh whatever, i've got pc version looking great already... will tweak brightness and contrast

Have you given Reality IV a try? It makes the game looks great, plus it's easy to run.

If you just want to re-experience the story then the PS3 is good enough, and the controller makes the gameplay more fun. If you`ve got lots of money and want graphics, mods etc. then the PC version is up your alley.

PC is the best platform obviously if you want mods, but as for consoles IMO the 360 version is better, if only slight. This is just a matter of preference, but I prefer the 360 controller layout and how much more comfortable it feels. Which says something since during the 3D era I only played the PS2 versions so I became comfortable with the layout. As I said that's just personal preference and doesn't really have much to do with the game itself.

Either way no matter which platform you choose GTA IV will still be great. :)

I know! It's impressive how IV still looks great...it's not as if NYC is easy on the eyes all the time.

It's not the game's fault, it's your tv settings. GTA IV is perfect in pretty much everything, anyway I play for the gameplay, not the graphics buuttt if you want to try these tv settings -

Color 35 > Brightness 55 > Contrast 95 > Backlight 2

Then go to Advanced tv display settings > select OFF everything that is there. Should make your graphics look a bit nicer. All settings are for Sony Bravia flatscreens and run by a professional tv display driver.

OT yet again but how come VC pooks so blurry and pixelated when I play on my HDTV?

Anyone got any tips to make it look better?

PC is the best without mods, and I have the game on PS3, too.

GTA IV on PC looked better than V on PS3, and even PS4 - I'm being honest here.

Let's not forget dynamic shadows induced by the headlights of a vehicle, a lot sharper, clearer shadows, a lot of textures being improved, custom radio station option, the video editor to capture awesome moments and so on.

I don't even mod my GTA IV.

You can also modify the contrast/brightness/saturation on both PC and console versions of the game easily.

IDK,the game looks good on PD3 and that is enough for me :)

So whats up with pc version looking so washed out? What are the proper brightness/contrast corrections ? I really hate eyeballing those

IV has a filter by default that makes it seem "washed out"....I recommend low brightness, high contrast. Makes people have more pink-ish skin and feel less pale, bright colors appear to be more vibrant. You need a timecyc mod to fix the lighting completely.

Try using RealityIV. Looked great on my PC.

You can see screenshots of RealityIV on my GTA IV PC copy in action on my Steam profile page.

It certainly does look great. The only thing that I don't like about it is the lack of lighting 'bloom'. As I use ELS that hampers the effects slightly.
