No way you people are getting stable 60fps on ultra

I have a GTX 970 + i7 4790k + 8GB RAM and when I max everything out at 1080p + MSAA x2, the benchmark drops as low as 22 fps at one point (Vinewood sign scene)

Sometimes it is stable 60fps, but most of the time it fluctuates between 40-60, dropping below 40 every once in a while.

I can see noticeable slowdowns in some areas in the game

Drivers updated? Don't forget to disable tessellation.

So.... Just because you run the game on an unoptimized POS, everyone else is lying?

The hardware is only as good as the effort put into finetuning it, my man.

From what I read, you just installed an OS, drivers, and game.

Yet you expect it to run as optimised as possible?

I run it on High/Very high with an inferior CPU (i7 2600) and GPU (7850 2gb overclocked). Dips to 30-40 at some point, but overall I get 60 fps.

I turned off AA altogether, lowered shadow quality and that's about it.

I take great care in optimizing my bios, drivers, services etc so that I get the most out of it. I even tinker with individual settings for my GPU.

Call me a liar, but it's just facts.

Just installing everything isn't enough. Tweaking, disabling/enabling features etc THAT'S where you get the extra performance your rig is obviously missing.

We're not liars, you just run a poorly optimised rig as far as I'm concerned.

Dude, I have everything up to date and I actually had to DOWNGRADE the graphics card drivers because on the newest ones I was getting massive stutters

Now it plays smooth but I can definitely see some frame drops and it surely doesn't keep 60fps all the time

@Bonaldo: If you experienced stuttering with the latest gfx drivers, I would suggest to make a clean uninstall and install them again. There's no way to run it smoothly with outdated drivers.

Set the graphics so the card doesn't use more than 2.5gb vram.

Guru3d demonstrated the game doesn't show exactly how much vram the settings use, it shows 1gb vram less, so, gtx 970 has 3.5 gb vram, tune the settings to use in game 2.5 and you won't have any problems.

Hmmm, set the GPU to full power maybe? Normally this setting is "adaptive" in Nvidia control panel.

All sorts of cool things to tinker with in NCP, including quality-performance.

Try those 2. So, no adaptive (power guided to the GPU will remain full)

Slider dead bang in the middle of the performance - Quality setting

I'm not gonna be able to play until the 18th, but it seems to me that all that people need to have are the updated drivers (I'm talking Nvidia users).

I read something or other about people with OC'd GPUs having problems, can anyone confirm this?

No problems with my OC 7850.

If he turned off FXAA and TXAA and enabled MSAAx4 or x8, and MFAA, it'd perform and look better if my experience with it is the same for him.

I know, and I love it.

Because just like in Crysis one, when I have a new GPU in 3 or 4 years, I can still use even higher settings to make it look better :)

Or do you want games to be downgraded so far, everyone can run ultra and feel so superior for it?

Is it best to lock this game at 60fps? Have noticed every now and then at 130 some jitters and it's not frame drops, that is still staying about the same. Just wondering if there is a disadvantage running it beyond the 60fps they set it up for.

I just installed the game running all texture stuff maxed. I left advanced graphics all off and put the population etc.. sliders stuff to 75% in dx10 mode. I'm getting 60fps rock solid during police chases and crashes etc.. It doesnt get better than this as far as frame rate! Going to try dx10.1 then dx11 then dial in the best graphics that sticks to 60fps minimum during crazy sh*t

Uhmm... in this case it pretty much is. Difference between one 980 and 2 in SLI is barely 30 FPS. If one is happy with 60 FPS one GPU is always good enough.

Yup to me it drops to 30 at some points even on normal settings and I saw people claiming that they can run at stable 60 FPS with a similar spec machine of mine. Come on people, just because it runt at 60 at some points of the map doesn't mean it will run at 60 most of the time.

I am not using any ultra settings, but mostly very high, just turned down grass and shadows and I have zero issues with a 3 year old gtx 680 with 2 GB vram. I am completely shocked how smooth this game runs and looks awesome. Try my settings below, and I don't use MSAA, only FXAA, since I know MSAA is a huge perf drop.

I know I should have upgraded my vid drivers, but was afraid it would break other games, so just left it since having great performance. I find the newer is not always better especially since I have an older card.

1080p

i5-3570k

Nvidia Geforce GTX 680 2 GB driver 344.48

16 GB system ram

Windows 7

gta5 is installed on older 7200 RPM drive

I am getting 60-80 FPS in the city, and out in desert I see it drop as low as 46 FPS but I turn on adaptive sync or I get bad screen tearing.

Also even though game says I am using 2400 out of my 2047 VRAM, I monitored it , and never went higher then 1930, though it mostly hovers around 1750 - 1898 VRAM

1080p

FXAA On

MSAA Off

vsync off

population density - 100%

population variety - 100%

distance scaling - 100%

Texture Quality - Very high

Shader Quality - Very high

Shadow Quality - High

Refelection Quality - Very High

Reflection MSAA - off

Water quality - very high

particles quality - very high

grass quality - very high

soft shadwos - NVIDIA PCSS

Post FX - High

Motion Blur Strength - 50%

Anisotropic Flitering - 16x

Ambient Occlusion - High

Tessalation - Off

Adv Graphic

Everything off but High details streaming while flying

980, 4770K 4.0GHZ and 16GB:

Can run at stable 60 with everything on Very High/Ultra but without MSAA and Advanced Graphics options. With MSAA it drops even to 40 frames sometimes, but very rarely. Mostly it drops to 50 outside city, sometimes inside too.

Not to mention Advanced Graphics because with these bad boys turned on games barely keeps 60 frames, mostly runs on 40-50. So around 30 outside city.

Newest drivers installed, I cleaned up my PC 2 weeks ago so I think it shouldn't be a problem. I really doesn't know what is.

I don't have anything to play without MSAA and on but c'mon. 980 I said.

And don't we even talk about 4K.

gtx 780 getting 60fps 1080p. I had to lower grass to HIGH and a few other settings from Ultra down to Very High. I think shadows are at Very High but I'm not positive.
