Do we have to use an Xbox controller to play this if we want to use a pad?

I play most games with a ps2 pad (yes ancient I know but it still works and is the best pad I have ever used so I'm going to keep using it) and when they don't recognise the controller themselves X360CE will do the trick. Not so for GTA5 though. I can handle playing with KB+mouse except for the flying which truly sucks on the keyboard as I can't set the keys the way I want without unbinding controls for other vehicles / actions and then I can't even leave the menu until I do set them up...and then have to reset to default every time i exit a plane....most frustrating
