Graphics setting always...resetting?

I tried to optimize the game via GeForce Experience and as soon as it says it is optimized and I start the game, the graphics settings are back to what they were before and GeForce Experience tells me that the game is not optimized. Even if I try to change them manually in the ingame menu it says I have to restart the game, after which, you guessed it right, the settings are back to normal. Does it have to do with my progress in the game? I just finished that first mission for Simeon.
