This should be easy for R* as they already have an option for what you describe for first person view on foot.

There are various camera mode options somewhere in the settings. I don't know if what you are looking for is in thete

Try turning on the allow independent camera option in the camera setting menu.

An option for turning the auto-center off is only on PC, doesn't exist on consoles IIRC.

I checked the camera settings and I only saw one for auto centering while on foot. While driving, the camera forcibly stays centered. If you try to look left or right and let go of the stick, the camera will snap back to center. This is what I want to turn off. This makes it a bit difficult to drive in first person.

Thanks for the help.

How would the camera snapping back to center make it hard to drive in first person?

It makes it hard to look before turning, in my experience. I sympathise with OP

Is this on PC? Or console? Because I've never heard of this problem on the consoles.

Buthurt alert - Yes it's on every platform since GTA San Andreas

Pretty much, I would like to have full control of where the camera looks.

having "look ahead" is always good to have when in first person view while driving. i have played a lot of driving games that always seem to neglect this one little option.

mmm chocolate

Not sure if it works with the camera when in first person, but if you use the e-brake (tap it) , while going around a corner,

The camera moves and gives you a better view of whats coming up.

It sucks. You can do it on foot but not in vehicles. Sometimes when flying I want to look somewhere other than straight and you have to fight with the auto recenter. Its such a simple thing.

I often wonder if developers actually play games themselves. There is always some glaring oversight in menues, UI, or lack of Simple customization(such ascamera or controlls) that screws things up terribly

Wish I could turn THAT off.

I wish there was a further camera setting regarding height when in a vehicle called "even higher".
