ThunderBanana
I managed to smash a Phoenix into a pole sideways at about 90MPH and it completely crushed that side, to the point that the front end of the car was mangled like it would be in IV. It seems to be pretty inconsistent, 10 minutes later I smashed another car into a wall and it barely did anything. Maybe it's just bugged. Osho
f*ckin' absolutely agree on this This is one thing that hasn't changed much over the consoles for the PC. Mods need to address this issue at the earliest. 78 lil red express and P2FX

Red XIII
I think the damage downgrade is so that online racing is more enjoyable, especially when u have 30 people crashing into you at the start. Yeah rockstar are very lazy spending 5 years on one game. Are guys that ignorant and stupid? GrandTeaRedemption and A_Cheesy_Vag

gdfsgdfg
I honestly found the handling much better than IV, helicopters and boats seem to handle more realistic now, even super cars aren't all that arcadey you still need to have good maneuver But the deformation is such a step back.... its almost unfun not even denting the car across a wall is realistic anymore you always get black lines instead of the superior grey lines in gta iv, you can't cut helicopter wings anymore they just simply explode and kill you. sjaak327
GTA V handling is so damn casual, I bet that GTA VI will just copy over the handling files from Saints Row 2 and call it a day. Casual gamers love to have their hand held to the very end of the game. if you thought IV's driving was anywhere near realistic then you need to go drive a real car. Cars don't body roll to the point of nearly tipping over at 60mph, and they also don't just slide when trying to take a corner at any speed faster than 10mph, V's driving is really more realistic then IV (not that it takes much to be more realistic then what is essentially land yachting) V's handling certainly isn't more realistic. I can do things with cars in V that were both impossible to do in IV and sure as hell impossible to do in real live. And I have been driving various cars for over 20 years with quite some milage. It cannot be denied that V's handling is far from reality and that IV was much much better in this aspect. jimmyriddler
I think they should have made the damage model selectable in the menu, 'Arcade' or 'Realistic' and have online games that are either one or the other. This is the only thing that has really annoyed me about this game, and it will be the first thing I mod! Its not so easy to ignore a bunch of pretty flawed mechanics, for what? Online?

Funbit
I've registered on the forum just to be able to say how much I agree with the topic's author. I'm pretty satisfied with the graphics, smoothness etc, but car physics makes me want to postpone the play and wait for a mod or fix that brings at least GTA IV physics back And also, mod creation for V version is a big question for now either P2FX

I loved it in 4 when my chopper was going down so I had to bail on top of a building But this still happens. In fact to a better degree now, the choppers smoke profusely, and slowly break down eventually giving out. And still your tail can be be ripped off and force you to spin almost indefinitely. They explode now because they should in my opinion. No, your helicopter cannot take an rpg to the rotor and keep flying... And on the discussion about driving. I think its apparent that driving was in a sense neutered for gameplay reasons. Considering that you must drive 10x more in San Andres than in liberty city, the chop shops are more scarce, and cars can flip over far easier, often into ditches and trees, it is hard to imagine how annoying it would be. Imagine cruising with some friends and he accidentally drops his controller and flies into a railing. His car crumbles, flips over and falls into a ditch. It would be cinematic and awesome(much like when cars collide in watchdogs when you hack lights), and looks great. However your mission is on the other side of the map and you guys have to backtrack to pick up your friend and put him in your car now. From a gameplay perspective this isn't fun, and explains why the arcadey controls, the rolling over of cars and the removal of heavy deformation makes an appearance. Not to mention there is a more personal connection to cars, unlike GTA IV where you grabbed a car off the street when you totaled your last one. Funny enough, GTA V, doesnt advocate for GTA as much. I personally dont mind, but its all opinion. As a side note, I loved GTA IV deformation just as much as the upset ones here. Often would I download mods to increase it as it made driving more exciting. Edited April 15, 2015 by Gameassassin1020

Gameassassin1020
not really. I liked it when your tail fell off and you'd have to attempt a crash land. In v ur heli just blows up and if engine stops working, u can just bail out and parachute In V there are less buildings to get our tail ripped off on. Not to mention only 2-3(?) choppers have tails, making it less common than IV with its 3 choppers(2 really) with tails. The heli explodes more or less because it should in my opinion. In IV you would shoot helicopters into oblivion and they would flip over and keep flying. It was highly silly. And, just dont bail out? Theres no rule that says you have to bail. TheDeathRises
Jesus, you guys are stupid. The damage was significantly downgraded for NG and PC version because of the added first person mode. When your car would get crushed like that in first person, you'd have a ton of clipping errors. We already saw many, many clipping errors in the LG version where heads would stick through the roof of a squished car and such.

It doesn't matter about the amount of buildings. In V if you fly by a building and get it f*cked up a bit you just smoke and the windows break. Doesn't need to be realistic either. IV wasn't realistic with everything but it was still fun I never said there were rules to bailing out. In v you have parachutes so you're way more safe than in IV. It gives you that sense that you have to act quick. I've yet to see a helicopter with out a tail. Edited April 15, 2015 by A_Cheesy_Vag
