MithosSama
Having this stuttering intensifying thing too and its such a shame the game works very flawlessly with everything maxed until that happens the game hasn't actually crashed or had texture glitches its just slowing down to a crawl as time goes on until it becomes a slideslow. The only way to fix it is to set texture quality to normal, sucks I know, rockstar really needs to step up their game because this game is ridiculous considering the graphics aren't any different than Crysis 3 arguably. I have my textures on Normal, but still I get the stuttering.
Straypuft
I had loads of stutters on my GTX 980, but then I removed my overclock, and it worked. Also found out that if you use the Nvidia shadows the framerate drops, but then if you change it to smooth or anything else, and then back to Nvidia shadows, then it is butter smooth. video card overclock? or cpu? J_hallin
It's definitely eating a lot of memory. 8GB on high settings it's not enough. I notice myself after a bit of playing the memory usage gets high and then start consuming pagefile which slows down game and starts stuttering. Not sure is the game having some memory leak/clearing problem or is just 8gb not enough these days. Also video memory hungry too. I have the same issue with 16GB RAM. Sounds like a memory leak, whatever that is...
interfreak
we dont have this problem on console Actually, PS4 had the same issue for months before it was patch a couple of weeks ago (stutter in heavy traffic). It's looking more and more like a Nvidia issue from what I'm reading, particularly affecting the GTX 960/970/980. I posted this in another 'stutter' thread, give it a try guys and see if it helps: I also have a GTX 970 (with an i5 4590) and also experience FPS drops in traffic, pretty simular to what was seen on PS4 (but worse, drops from 60fps to 45fps). As others have mentioned, turn of vsync in game and enable it in the Nvidia control panel, along with triple buffering. This seems to be the better option for Vsync. You can also turn on adaptive Vsync, which will allow the screen to tear occasionally when frames drop below 60fps. However, I have a temporary fix which I've posted on reddit. In the Graphic options, go to the Distance Scaling slider and turn it all the way down. I haven't noticed any degradation in graphics from doing this, and it will instantly stabalise your frame rate in heavy traffic or heavily populated areas. For instance, along Vinewood Blvd I'd see drops to the high 40's, with this turned down it stays between 57-60fps. HOWEVER, doing this will affect how far objects spawn in the distance. For instance: Distance Scaling maximum: http://i.imgur.com/z3eVPqK.jpg Distance Scaling minimum: http://i.imgur.com/pQNYDNC.jpg For Population Density and Population Variety put them at 2 down from Max. These settings don't seem to have as much as an effect as Distance Scaling performance wise, so you might even be able to max them out. For the record, the rest of my settings are: -Graphics- Fullscreen 1920x1080 FXAA – Off MSAA – X2 TXAA – Off VSYNC – Off Population Density – Max Population Variety – Max Distance Scaling – Min Texture/Shader/Shadow/Reflection Quality – all Very High, except Shadows which is High. Reflection MSAA – Off Reflection MSAA – Off Water/Particles/Grass Quality – all Very High Soft Shadows – Softer Post FX – Very High Motion Blur Strength – Minimum Depth of Field – On Anisotropic Filtering – X16 Ambient Occlusion – High Tessellation – Very High -Advanced Settings - Long Shadows – On High Resolution Shadows – Off High Detail Streaming when Flying – On Extended Distance Scaling – Minimum Extended Shadow Distance – Maximum AK7
Wayno717
I have the same specs as op, and reviving massive stuttering 50-60fps but it stutters like crazy when in a firefight. The sound also gets bugged and starts stuttering aswell
MisterSmurfin
My PC doesn't necessarily have the best specs, but they're more than enough to run GTA V decently: Windows 7 Home Premium Intel Core i7 2670QM @ 2.2 GHz (Turbo @ 3.1GHz) NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M 8GB DDR3 RAM Still having major FPS issues, getting about only 15-20 Edited April 15, 2015 by MisterSmurfin UltraGizmo64
utack
master race.. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH Thanks for this productive comment so much I have seen 3 "megalags" in around 10h of gameplay, not a major issue. And then there is the occasional stuff where it looks a little like 30fps, when it actually runs 60 according to Fraps, but that also isn't very often. Trash_Ok
I have an MSI laptop, the game runs buttery smooth for me on a GTX 765m. I had terrible stuttering the first time I played it, got completely unplayable after finishing prologue. I discovered that my temps were extremly high so I cooled down the laptop, restarted and did some cleaning OS wise. Launched the game again, High Settings mixed with Very High - fps is 45 most of the times, drops a little in intense scenes like huge explosions. Stuttering is not that bad for me, it is noticeable at some points only during high speed driving, but other than that it is running perfect, way better than I expected. The temps are still pretty high though and I think that causes the little stutter at some points. So I need to utilize it today, I think Im gonna take the back case of the laptop down and put it directly on a cooling pad to eliminate the temp problem. AMD Drivers: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9156/amd-releases-catalyst-154-beta-drivers Nvidia Drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/83819/en-us The thing is this appeared AFTER installeing the latest drivers. It was all fine before that, when I installed them stuttering, pop ins and blurred textures appeared. And on my brothers old PC which is slightly less than minimum specs he ran the game at around 40-60 FPS, after installing the drivers it dropped to 25-45. Oh and it can`t be HDD fault, because I reinstalled it on an SSD(~500mb/s read/write) and it was still happening, the loading times were faster though, but not fast enough to bother me to run it from an HDD. I`d say the same thing people previously mentioned - it`s the games or drivers fault. No way all these powerful rigs are having problems even when everything is turned down and some of the potato rigs, like my brother's, run the game somewhat fine without stuttering, popins or blurred textures. 3 delays man. If R* is not going to do anything until Friday I`ll be pissed. The game is completely unplayable.
AUS_Twisted
Does everyone with the problem have Tessellation turned on? the game was causing my GTX 680 to constantly spike into idle every 3 seconds for a split second causing constant pauses and I could see this without any software as my card has LED's on it showing how much it's under load and it was constantly pulsing every 2 - 3 seconds. Turned tessellation off and runs perfectly fine now. Edited April 15, 2015 by AUS_Twisted

I just played for about 10 minutes. Started the game and everything is fine. Stole a Dukes drove around for about 5 minutes and everything is great. Game looks and runs smoothly. Then I got a massive stutter and houses started to disappear and appear, textures became blurred and stuttering came back. Could it be some sort of VRAM leak? I don`t know what could be causing this, not an expert when it comes to this. Tikhung

damianpara
Been experience this same sh*t on my system too. i7 4970k 16GB RAM EVGA 970GTX 4GB Samsung PRO EVO 250GB SSD 1080p Getting real heavy lag stuttering. I've recorded a video showing how bad it is, basically makes the game unplayable. What's annoying is that my brother's running an i7 2600k, 8GB RAM, EVGA 770GTX at 1440p and it runs perfect with 55-70fps! Sigh. Waiting for patch I guess... K.Walters
Yep. Pretty much that. And my brother who uses an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2,3GHz, GTX650, and 4Gb DDR2 ram, gets none of this. Apart from game looking like last gen and running on 25-45FPS it runs better than on my GTX770,i7 4771 with 8Gb RAM. Even when I turn everything down to the lowest settings. nilz45
I got rid of some micro stuttering by disabling Vsync in the game options, games sometimes doesn't like having Vsync enabled at two places. And then I got rid of some mouselag by putting the mouse option on Direct Input. However, the stuttering mentioned above is happening to me aswell after a while, it's like the game breaks down and tries to render everything it can render, or something. Seems to be a bug. ben_j_davis
I've also got a i5, GTX970 and 8GB of Ram and some bad stuttering. Two things I did: Reduced Grass Quality to Normal (improved frame rate), the set V-Sync to Half. Game runs smoothly now. It's not ideal, but makes the game playable. chocolade
Strange my game worked fine i have gtx 770 2gb and 6gb ram. Then after some playing the game was like freezing for a second or so each few seconds then sometimes the game was freezing for like even 5 seconds or so then continue. And then i decided to play again and to try to record a video the strange thing while playing i had this stutters but in the vide i recorded and edited i don't see this stutters. This is my recorded video: First time i tried to play i couldn't play the game was freezing every second i changed the graphics settings according to another youtube video of someone with gtx 770 2gb video card then i downloaded the latest nvidia drivers the game seems to be working good i also recorded the video but now when i'm trying to play it's almost not moving while playing everything slow and stuttering. Bonaldo
Holy sh*t guys, I think I found the solution for Nvidia cards (at least GTX 970) Just...install the old (347.88) drivers and the stutter is gone It looks like NVIDIA when trying to optimize the drivers for GTA V actually f*cked up I installed these drivers, set everything on max in 1080p + MSAA x2 + TXAA (VRAM usage is 3485 MB) and it's smooth I ran the benchmark, and at the lowest point I got 25 fps (it reached 25fps on the Vinewood sign scene), but it very rarely dropped below 40fps On the new drivers I was getting well below 20fps at some points and massive stutters Try it Edited April 15, 2015 by Bonaldo
gdfsgdfg
Might be a placebo effect my game always runs fine for the first few minutes and then the stutter comes and everything goes to hell. But at this point I might try that if rockstar doesn't release a patch.
