What?! Supposedly, the 4k screenshots from R* were taken with 2 GTX 980 in sli; I swear, rockstar support has the sh*ttiest customer service on the whole galaxy.

They are a distant 2nd to Steam support

You do realize that the pc they tested 4K on had two 980's in SLI (Plus in your sig you only have one gpu, are you gonna get another?)

This game easily has the best water of any PC game at the moment.

Look at some of the benchmark scenes for example.

Watch Dogs

Assassin's Creed IV

Just Cause 2

Far Cry 3

I really like using the 'spoiler' BBcode :D

To be fair.. the only game that has better looking water than GTAV in the examples you provided is Watch_Dogs. The rest of these games have piss poor water. I mean Far Cry 3 might as well be spray painted on.. and Just Cause 2? Seriously? That game is beyond outdated.

To everyone who did not read the first page...

The "no waves", "flat sea" is an SLI/crossfire issue with some graphics cards. We can only hope this gets fixed by Nvidia/AMD. The latest Nvidia Drivers Version: 352.86 sadly did not resolve the Problem.

I have tried the bigger waves mod, where you can increase the waves height to about 10 meters.

But it only worked with SLI disabled. :/

And YES I definitely have to agree. GTA V PC has amazing water (with my GTX 680 SLI disabled).

Probably the most amazing water I have ever seen in a game. Watchdogs water also Looks amazing, but there are no big waves, so this one goes to GTA!

This just proves that having two cards is useless. You people don't know what to do with your money.

Obviously you haven't moved up to 4k yet. Water and everything else looks fantastic from my end. Crapbox isn't even in the equation.

Got it to spend. Need two cards to run 4k. Or one Titan X. what do you mean, you people?..

Foam is not always present. A lot of people are comparing pictures with variable times of day and weather. The game's water sometimes is choppy with larger waves and lots of foam, and other times it can be very still.

I have encountered both on the PC version. End of thread.

PS: The SLI bug seems legit though. Doesn't bother me as a gtx780 is more than enough to play this game at 1080p and smooth 60fps.

Edit: also for the above comparisons, (for some reason quoting isn't working for me) these are still images and while they look kind of decent in pictures, the water physics in these games are miles behind GTA V. Watch Dogs probably comes the closest in physics but there are no large waves from memory, it uses some kind of strange physics system that is not even as good as the water in Battlefield 4.

Hmm; it's good in GTA 5, but I still think the water-washing-onto-the-beach effects in the original Crysis are the best. Edit: they were very good (esp. back in their day!), but I think GTA 5 and Watch Dogs has them beat now. :)

Slightly OT: But take a look at grenades thrown in the water in Crysis, and bullets fired into it, and you'll be hard-pressed to say it's that detailed in those areas in GTA 5.

Bottom line is that games never contain the best of everything that's been done over the years (I wish like heck they did!). No-one has ever duplicated the sound of bullets ripping through clothing in the N64's Goldeneye (and the assault rifle ricochets), or even the "tink" sounds of a grenade bouncing off walls in Quake from the grenade launcher.

Actually Watch Dog's water looks fits perfectly the way climate and feel of Chicago is, where in V its perfect fit for mediterranean climate and feel. So its matter of opinion and not fact.

OP, as aforementioned, seems like a GFX card/SLI issue...

BS, rockstar games doesn't know, how to utilize sli properly. Don't turn the things around. They are like ubisoft in this regard.

Wow, I would be pissed if I had a multiple GPUs...

On my laptop GTX card the water looks and works very well -- Watch Dogs has a beautiful water, but it has a simple physics, comparing to the under- and above water physics included in RAGE engine, generating dynamic waves and ripples, allowing floating objects to be pulled by the river currents and moved by the ocean waves, etc...

Look at the motorboat fighting with the realistic ocean waves and an idling boat drifting downstream on a river -- it's a really good simulation...

There is another game (well two, but it uses same engine) that comes to my mind, which does not play nice with SLi in terms of water quality.

Fallout 3 / New Vegas.

Everything else is fine with SLi, but water gets f*cked up.
