You were kicked for being idle too long (GTAO PC)

In GTA:O on PC, whenever I alt-tab out of the game for a minute or so, I return to the game to find that i've been kicked from the game lobby for being idle too long.

Back when I played on Xbox 360 the idle time was around 13 minutes before it kicked you off the lobby, but on PC it seems to be bugged and kicks me straight away.

Is anyone else experiencing this or am I a unique case? Is there anything I can do aside from wait for a patch?

Yep it's been like that since IV on the PC, I'm guessing they don't want you to screw up anything in terms of cheats.

I doubt it'll be patched as well since like I said, it's been around for a long time.

This is a new idle timer. It actually exists on Xbox One. If you back out into the Xbox Home screen and open other apps, you idle timer is about 2 minutes.

Not sure what the point of this is. They couldn't do it to the PS4 version because backing out the XMB menu is the only way of finding friends and opening party chat. Xbox One has snap options, and I assume they want you to use the Steam options in a similar manner.

2 mins are too little. I go to take a piss=Kicked for being idle. I tab out to see if i've had any response on my 2 tickets=Kicked for being idle. I tab out to respond to a message on TS=Kicked for being idle. I go downstairs to let the dog in=Kicked for being idle. And the list goes on. It seems as though they expect us to sit there glued to the screen, but everyone has something they need to do once in a while. Would 10 mins really mess it up that much? Or what about 5 mins, that would still be way better than the current timer. Right now it takes longer to load back in, than it does getting kicked for being idle, it's ridiculous.

I've heard people saying it's to avoid cheaters, but if that's the case could someone please post a link to the place where a Rockstar employee has said so?

2 minutes only applies to dashboarding if you are in game you have 16 minutes before being kicked for being idle so if you go downstairs to let the dog in just turn on passive and you'll have 16 minutes to get back to your game before being kicked

Awesome! 16 mins should be more than enough. Thanks for the tip.

If GTAO stays in the foreground (i.e., you just step away from your computer), the idle kick timer is 15 minutes (warning comes up at 13 minutes).

If you hit alt+tab then the idle kick timer is 2 minutes (warning comes up at 1 minute 30 seconds).

A couple times i've alt+tabbed out and completely forgotten about GTA for 20 minutes. I guess having the alt+tab idle kick timer so low fixes 2 problems,

1) Makes room in the server for active players since PC players can multitask and completely forget about GTA

2) Makes it a bit more difficult to cheat since you're not given much time before the game boots you
