How are some people so bad at this game?

Let me start off by acknowledging I am not God's gift to gaming. There is no doubt a large number of people much better than I. However, I do possess a basic proficiency and understanding of the game that many people seem to lack totally. I played a heist with some randoms today and goodness some of the things they do are incredible. Let me give an example using the Humane Labs heist finale. The chopper pilot is not able to find the checkpoint above the lab to trigger the parachute jump, so lands in the lab instead and fails the mission. The guy trying to swim out of the tunnel drowns because he doesn't know how to equip a rebreather. I am sure most people have probably died in really stupid ways now and then such as hitting an obstacle while parachuting or getting clipped by the rotors on a helicopter. However, some people seem to commit these mistakes over and over without learning anything. The heists are not at all difficult if you are playing with a competent group, but some players just seem to struggle so much. What is going on???

The obvious answer is probably to play with only friends or crew mates. We usually have 3 good players at a time but it seems like we never have a 4th, or we have 3 people and 2 more people who want to join but won't unless they stay together. Or, it's late and no one's on hardly.

Thank you, rant over.

To be fair once on that Humane Labs heist I wasn't issued any rebreathers and had to keep snacking whilst swimming through the tunnel... I almost made it.

...The guy trying to swim out of the tunnel drowns because he doesn't know how to equip a rebreather.

in all fairness...

there seem to be a bug that cause the rebreather to disappear once you get underwater.

i know, it happened to me, i almost drown while doing the mastermind challenge.

the rebreather disappeared, it was equipped but it wont show up in my face.

i managed to survive by eating over 100 P&Qs i had in my snack inventory.

other time i was doing Pacific Bank, escaping on the bike, a cop car lightly tapped the back of the bike, i didnt even felt, but that little tap was enough for the game to register a fail, saying i died, evenknow i was still calmly following my escape route.

so yeah, while sometimes is people being stupid, other times the game do things that make you fail.

Yesterday it took me 41 minutes to complete the fleeca heist finale because the other guy took so long to hack (20 minutes) and so long to drill (15 minutes)

Doing these mistakes is fine, we live and learn. What irritates me , however, is the Rambo sh*t. Some idiots think they're invincible and get killed in every heist.

Well, I tend to think of it as an odds based thing. If you screw up heists by mistake 1 in 20 times you're probably a good player. But if the same ratios apply to all 4 people in the heist, then the odds of someone screwing up are 1 in 5. Given that some players are not that good, it's going to be more like 1 in 3 heists end up with something stupid making it fail.

The heists are hard because all 4 players must not screw up, and the odds are not great once the bugs are figured in. Pacific Standard heist, I've got the bike to the jump (yeah, I know there are easier routes, but people were doing the jump) and my parachute failed to appear (not failed to open, just did not exist).

Everyone will have done something stupid in a raid, and everyone has died in a raid. It's not so much the other players fault, it's just it's bound to happen.

Could be he doesn't normally use snacks and he accumulated them? I know you can only buy so much but you can go over the cutoff # if you pick up snacks from NPC's especially in survivals.

While there are competent adults, teens, and kids who play...not everyone is nearly as so. Rambo moments and hard difficulty don't bode so well for the uninformed. Some don't even know how to use snacks -.-

Heists are meant to be played by crews who have played together before, and not just some online friends you met jerking off in free roam

Crew mates that you've spent hours completing missions with, that everyone knows who the best pilot is, who the best shooter is, driver, etc.....

If you do Heists with those people you will have a much higher success rate...

the problem is everyone wants to play Heists so bad they'll host one and open matchmaking to randumbs and then the chance of success drops dramatically

There are much faster ways to earn money than doing Heists with randumbs, earn some $ / RP doing missions and form a good team, then try a Heist

I got invited to the prison break heist yesterday by some random French speaking players. While we were in the prison making our way out the guy who was the prisoner kept telling me in extremely broken English to hurry up. I was just simply taking my time going from cover to cover taking out the guards. He ended up getting killed twice just running out in the open like an idiot. I couldn't understand what was being said but after he died the second time it sounded to me like his buddy ripped him a new asshole in French and on the third try he followed me from cover to cover and we easily passed the mission.

Maybe, just maybe, some people play occasionally for a bit of fun and are not on for 14 hours a day every day. My mate comes on once or twice every couple of months or so. He has a job, kids etc and doesn't have time to remember the inventory details, snacks and stuff.

Casual gamer or not, some of the players are useless.

Like low levels. Why do you never stay in cover? Nothing about being a casual gamer, it's common sense to stay in cover even when a high level.

See that yellow f*cking marker and the text written at the bottom? Read that.

Throwing random bombs out of a car, stop that. You surely know there could be blowback from that.

You go for the hydra? Okay please know how to land it before you decide to take it.

Most of the stuff is common f*cking sense, nothing to do with casual gaming.

The problem comes from the direction the game has taken. When you dumb your game down to allow the lowest common denominator to not only get by but thrive, then you end up with a much higher percentage of your game population being borderline retarded... Which in turn pushes the smart players to hide in parties and private sessions which just makes the problem appear even worse.

If they made us wear our big boy pants when we played this game and actually had to choose our weapons we carry instead of just carrying a ton of everything, made vehicle physics that aren't on a "baby's first driving game" level, ditched auto aim and made a quality free aim system, implemented proper stealth, and so on then all the idiots would be too confused and would **** off back to whatever the dumb-people game of the season is and we might be able to find people who are enjoyable to play with.

I haven`t touched this game in over a year and forgot most of the controls. I am moving to PC so I`ll know only 6 of them beforehand. I am rank 116 on my main, but she never did heists on PS3.

I will have the common decency of playing alone or in lulz missions to get SOME of my former self back, before I tackle anything that has Heist in it - also own a mic and I`ll be very vocal about my inexperience, but I`d rather get a group of friends for it and not randoms.

The above being said, not everyone has a common sense, and even fewer have it in a game. So, you can end up with a more... "arseholy" version of me, who just jumped into your lobby and acted like he was God`s gift to you.

Is the instruction drive or fly to the big yellow circle to much to ask?

If you are a newbie, why you do not hang in the back, watch and learn from more seasoned players. I do not mind doing the work for you. Just stay alive.

Even if you are the heist leader, why you have to pull out everybody out from the rudder from the Dinghy, police boat or Hydra? I do not have to be in control, but if it happens that I am the first and you pull me out, I leave.

I think everybody is used to COD or is just a spoiled kiddie.

I think people expect that since this is an adult game that they are playing with other mature adults and forget or dont realize the guy behind that other control can be only 10 years old. Kids that young can not focus and usually are in their own little world. Then again some people just suck.

Holy sh*t. Had the exact same thing happen to me the other night. Heist leader was low level -- think they were lvl 37 or so-- with sh*tty flying and shooting combat skills.

Mistake #1: after seeing his stats at the heist board, should have quit while I was ahead. All of heist leader skill bars averaged 25% to 50%. More specifically, given this was a flying mission and he nominated himself as pilot, his flying skill was only 50% OF THE FIRST SKILL BAR. :facedesk:

Mistake #2: after seeing how heist leader completely ignored the superior flying skills of myself and another heist member (both of us were maxed out in all combat skills) should have heeded the red flags and quit.

Mistake #3: after seeing how greedy the heist leader was in keeping 55% for himself and 15% for the other 3 heist members -especially given 1) the fact the ground team did more than 50% of the work AND 2) his combat skills sucked relative to all 3 other heist members--should have listened to the 3 bell alarm and quit

Mistake #4: decided to stick it out to avoid BS point penalty. Wasted the next 10 min real time of my life getting airsick--swinging back and forth like a pendulum in the side gunner position--while said "pilot" tried to figure out how to navigate toward yellow dot :facedesk::facedesk:

Mistake #5: after arriving at the lab facility, spent the next 15 mins real time watching in frustration as said "pilot" tried to figure out how to approach the drop point without triggering the EMP.

At this point, I and the other 2 heist members began texting the pilot with small hints like "higher". "Fly and approach HIGHER". "[email protected] HIGHER" all to no avail....

After 5 more minutes of complete futility I should have quit at that point since the fool was completely incapable of reading text while on a mission. Didn't realize I was still actually ahead until heist leader decided to teleport out of his pilot seat as he quit mission. Leaving his 3 dumb @$$ heist mates to plunge to a spectacular, fiery death. :facedesk::facedesk::facedesk::facedesk:

At least that mission failure only cost me $500 in body armor. I've been on Pacific where I've wasted $5k+ in reserve body armor and $10k+ in ammo making it to the jump point at Mt. Chilliad. Only to have heist members die because they're incapable of opening up a simple parachute or reserve parachute :miranda:

edit: there is a reason why R* added flight school mission blimp to the map in FM ppl. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT. Or at least take the time to do all the chopper flying races solo and get experience with how to basically navigate a chopper FFS. Fundamentals like basic take off and landing. And hovering. And basic pitch/rolling while shooting targets and minimizing damage to your chopper. You need to have a fundamental competence in all these flying skills BEFORE doing a heist finale like HL.
