Bitsey
I've only 40 tunes as Self FM, so I re-encoded them all with a constant 128 kbps, 44100 Hz join stereo bitrate, using Audacity and the latest LAME mp3 encoder. Voilà, no more problems, for me anyway.

Voilà, no more problems, for me anyway. The closest I came to resolving the issue was adding a command line text file to the GTA game directory (per R* support) and including the following entries: -nomemrestricts -norestrictions -Disablehyperthreading That seemed to work the next time I started the game, but I only had about 5 song files in the GTA Radio folder. As soon as I added more songs, the issue returned. I'll have to give your suggestion a shot. I only have about 75 tracks (shortcuts, not actual song files) in my GTA Radio folder, so I'll try lowering the quality.
kasuki_v
Hmm, the problem for me is I have Self Radio on and I'm driving, textures such as buildings/roads/cars and even pedestrians do not load if I'm driving too quick. This is an image of an example of what I have to deal with: Now, I think I have a temporary fix while you're playing GTA:O. Open up Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Enter) and go to Details (Windows 8/8.1/10) and then scroll down till you see GTA5.exe and right click and hit Set Affinity. I usually until CPU 0 and just hit ok. When I 'think' it fixes it, when I do it my problem seems to go away for the remaining session of GTA 5. Nick930930
They just didn't make self radio to work correctly with HDD drives. I recommend installing your game on an SSD if you really want a smooth experience listening to self radio. Go to 6:08 in that video and you can see that Self Radio has absolutely zero impact on my game now.
kasuki_v
Well I had no issues with self radio when playing the game when it first came out, either R* or Nvidia did something which then broke it because the game was fine many months ago and none of my hardware has changed. If there was some way where we could modify Self Radio to play the songs as if they were built into the game, and add songs in the games native format into an RPF, I wonder if this could be a workaround. Unfortunately, you won't be playing Online with this though.

You had it on for a good 5 seconds then turned it off. That happens to me too, but when it's on for at least about 3 or more songs then the game starts breaking. Any way my Affinity fix is working wonder so I don't need to spend money on a SSD.

You seriously trying to say I'm wrong and that my game isn't running smoothly? 5 seconds with self radio is all it takes to show the difference in performance. When I switched to self radio before, the framerate would IMMEDIATELY drop down 10fps. It does not do this at all now that I have the game on an SSD. It runs perfectly on my system. end of story. I had the problem original with an HDD so I know exactly what the problem was like when I had it. And it runs flawlessly now. Just accept it. It isn't broken for everyone, just select people like yourself.
JamesTKirk
The problem with the Self Radio channel is that the volume is so low I can't even barely hear my own music. I mean it's more like a whisper compared to all the other radio stations. And there's apparently no way to adjust the volume. I can't make my songs louder! So much stupid stuff in this game. Pretty sorry I spent the $60 on it, but whatever. Life goes on even when you make poor decisions in it.

OT: I see no difference in performance when I use Self FM, but I notice that my CPU usage gets increased from 30% to 50%. LOL That's why their volume doesn't match. I'm an old man and most of my music is older stuff, which was unfortunately not borne of this modern trend towards highly compressed, "hot" (high volume) songs. And since I cannot amplify older songs (they would clip and distort), I chose instead to lower the volume of the more modern songs in my collection to match the older ones, volume-wise. I can always turn up the volume on my MP3 player if need be. It doesn't distort when I do so, therefore my decibel level in MP3Gain is adequate for my needs. It's GTA V that needs the option to adjust the Self Radio channel volume. Edited November 8, 2015 by JamesTKirk
Bitsey
... I already used MP3 Gain to LOWER the volume of my songs ... ... And since I cannot amplify older songs (they would clip and distort), ... I assume here you had bad experience by using MP3Gain the other way around, no? I think it's just an awful piece of software. My mp3 collection reaches more than two decades back and my Self FM playlist is quite random, from 60s to modern music. MP3Gain caused terrible distortions with some, apparently older encodings. That won't happen if you amplify your tracks with any other audio editor, like Audacity, which is open source too. But yeah, it ruins the quality either way. I would never touch my original files just for GTA.

I would never touch my original files just for GTA. Yeah it's too late because I used MP3gain on all my original files, and unless I understand how it works incorrectly, the process is pretty much irreversible without causing some kind of degradation (kinda like compressing a JPG over and over again, not good). Some of my mp3's had my old LP Vinyl albums as their source, with clicks and pops removed, but the vinyl (and all that ancient stereo equipment like a turntable) is now long gone so I cannot possibly re-record the files again. The good thing is, the level I picked (91 db) is fine for me. I never have a situation where the song might be too soft in volume but I CAN'T just turn it up... except in this dumb game. LOL sigh Oh well, I know I'm the only weirdo who actually LOWERED the volume of his music collection, but whatever - I like being unique even tho it means companies like Rockstar are never gonna concern themselves with me. No big deal in the big scheme of life. For what it does, MP3gain is actually superb. I rather enjoy having all my songs play at comparable sound levels, no matter what genre I might choose. I've never had a moment where I think to myself, "that volume doesn't sound right on that song". p.s. I know there's data encoded into the ID3 tags on the mp3 files to allow MP3gain to reverse the changes, but I pretty much lost all that info a long time ago when I "cleaned up" all my ID3 tag info on my songs (i.e. erased the data). Nick930930
Yeah I used a mp3gain software to boost the volume for a few of my tracks. But I knew what to expect and backed up my original files. No way in hell I was about to alter my personal music permanently just so I could hear it a little better in a video game. It's GTA V that needs the option to adjust the Self Radio channel volume. Well, I believe there is an option to lower the volume of radio music in GTA V. Whenever I edit the volume I make sure it matches the volume of all the other songs in the game so it feels more natural, as if the song was already in the game rather than just carelessly thrown in. The reason why the volume of music in most GTA games is so high comparing to standard volume is so you can hear it over other sounds in the game; if it wasn't the case you would barely hear them like you do now.
