Ridiculous loading times?

Hey all, just signed up to the forums!

I want to like this game but loading times are killing me.

First loading screen is usually around 2 minutes. Sometimes even goes up to 5. The ones between missions and open world are even worse. Anyone else experiencing this issue? I thought it was my hdd so i moved the game to my SSD but there is literally no improvements whatsoever.

System specs:

i5-4690 3.50ghz, 4.00ghz turbo

MSI Radeon r9 290 4gb

Samsung SSD 850 EVO 120gb

2x8gb DDR3 1866mhz ram

My fps is almost perfect. Running on high/very high with no random fps drops, but can't understand those loading screens.

Edit: Didn't check the actual number but feels like i'm running the game at around 45-50 fps.

#1. Welcome to GTA V...and I don't really mean that as a hello, I mean that as it has always taken awhile to load

#2. First day issues, most likely

Fail_At_GTA

Hmm, no issues for me on PS4...

Nah I wont be that guy today. Its likely just your internet speed. I'm not a computer specs type of person (horray for a sh*tty laptop) but maybe your specs aren't good enough for your settings? Mess around with the settings for a while, see if it works out.

Also its a good idea to make sure GTA 5 is the only thing running, as other things like Youtube or your internet browser will slow the game down.

Thanks for the replies. I hope this is a temporary issue as you said.

My connection speed is 20mbps. Not the best but i don't think any game requires anything close to that speed.

Sir Michael

20 Mbps is pretty solid for any online game. How about your packet loss and ping? I don't know too much about network settings, but from my experience, if either of those two are really high, it can cause a bad experience.

Just ran a test to see my packet loss and ping. Packet loss 0% and ping is 26. If other people were experiencing this 2-5 min loading screens i'm sure there would be more threads. Something is wrong but i have no idea what.

You have to remember this is rockstar, not any normal pc online game making company that know what they are doing. These guys are highly amateur when it comes to networking and coding efficiency. Great game but don't expect it to be high performance or stable software, because it isn't.

It's normal. We all go through the slow loading.

Extra time may vary depending on the internet speed to download the hotfix everytime you boot the game up fresh.

I just realized that my amd drivers weren't up to date. For some reason that auto-detect software kept saying it was up to date even though i had 14.12. Downloading 15.4 now will update the post if anything changes.

I guess I should have not been playing heists on the PS3 while downloading 59GB of GTAV for PC at the same time :p Actually, it did not seem to be a problem.

The heist loading times are insanely bad, and it seems like recently there have been more of the 30 to 60 second hangups in the cloud, or black screen, waiting to come out of heists. I think loading time is getting worse over the months and it's got nothing to do with my 50 Mbit/sec internet speed.

What's the matter if it doesn't load early. Isn't only 2 or 3 minutes of of your life. That's why I have a phone when I am waiting on loading screens. I am literally waiting to get into a setup right now.

Did some testing(these are only loading screen times, didn't count rockstar intro)

Story mode: 29 seconds

Story mode to online: 51 seconds.

Gta online launch from steam: 1 minute 39 seconds

Looks like updating to the latest drivers decreased the loading time drastically but still what the hell.

I also ran the benchmark, constant 60 fps on very high settings.

Still can't believe i'm seeing longer loading screens than Deus Ex HR ones :p

I'm always in party chat switching from jobs to freeroam. It would seem that everyone always waits the same amount of time, whether its 30 seconds or 2 minutes. I think the systems are kinda linked together and waits untill the last pesron is able join the session before letting everyone ''loose''. IMO the loading times are as good as the weakest link, ie the one in the group with the slowest internet, so you might not be at fault.

I find that if you go into a private or friend session the loading times are more or less instantanious whether you're one or more people together. Its the best thing to do when you just want to do jobs instead of FR shenanigans.

AscendantWyvern

1m 40seconds for a straight load to online is about as much as PS4.

For a computer like yours, that should not be the case. It might just be shakedown issues for the game...I'm pretty sure loading into online took forever in the Current Gen console release as well. Release Day traffic subside, and you might get faster times.

That said...get used to looking at clouds...GTA might as well be called Bird Watching with all the loading times you get.

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts. I guess i will just wait and see what happens. At least i'm not getting those 2-3 minutes screens anymore. Submitted a ticket to Rockstar. Hopefully their technical help will solve the problem.

It's Rockstar's matchmaking services, it's none related to your gaming rig or Internet provider. I have a PS4 SSD with 100Mbit Internet but I get such long load times from time to time.

The game tries to locate a new free roam playground for you and that takes minutes sometimes...

Don't be stupid bro, ever played Max Payne 3 on PC? Extremely optimized.
