Oddly, and annoyingly, i was havign the same problem, the game got to the 'Loading Story Mode' bit, and got stuck laoding forever. My solution was to block all the exe's in my firewall, to force the game into offline mode. Then when you play the game, it loads perfectly.

This is fine for single player mode, but online mode is obviously not got work. Not sure if saving will be ok, though i am technically logged in, it shows my username in social club, just that im offline.

Also, i may be missing out on additional content that may need me to be online, but atleast i can play the game.

Had the same thing happen to me, luckily I wasn't far into the story, just about finished the prologue as i spent most of my time in multiplayer. So I deleted my GTA/Rockstar folder from My Documents and started the game up again with a new savegame which fixed the issue. Haven't had it since then, but of course I don't advise this if you have gone through quite a bit of content already.

Tried doing that, still didn't work =(, dunno why they haven't made a patch yet fixing these sh*ts.

No. The issue we are having is between the main menu and getting in-game. I've tested it with online to no avail. I have noticed that it loads everything into RAM up to just above 3.5 GB and then will just stop using system resources bar the CPU. Other than that the game refuses to go past the loading screen regardless of time given.

Just letting you know that I have this issue as well.

It fixes itself when I delete my savegame folder - but obviously I can't keep doing that!

I found the issue I had run into, which is that my user-music folder. If I put too many songs it simply refuses to finish loading, that is, it will not go past ~3,754MB of RAM. So be mindful everyone.

I was having same/similar problem. I am using Win7x64, 4GB RAM, i5 2500K @ 5Ghz and TWO AMD Radeon r9 280Xs in crossfire (6GB VRAM!) - still had this problem. Anyway the fix that worked for me is as follows:

I had a problem with infinite loading after clicking on 'Story Mode', Also the game would load in safe mode but crash after a few minutes. I had multiple crash-to-desktops and I even had a blue screen fo death. After scouring forums, I had little luck, tried different AMD drivers, still no fix. THEN I had THE breakthrough. If you are experiencing problems like I described, set Windows pagefile size to default settings. I had put my pagefile up to about 6GB manually. This is what was causing the crash. Once I put it back to the default 'let windows manage the page file' or whatever it is, the game ran perfectly (apart from some mouse stuttering in the main menu, and some horrid stutter on the intro video).

Step-by-step:

  1. Open System by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33_818, right-clicking Computer, and then clicking Properties.

  2. In the left pane, click Advanced system settings. 18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b_48. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  3. On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.

  4. Click the Advanced tab, and then, under Virtual memory, click Change.

  5. Make sure the Automatically manage paging file size for all drives check box is ticked!
