Save Sharing

Recommended Posts

SPOILER ALERT: Be aware that there may be spoilers in this topic's posts!

Please use spoiler tags if you're going to post a save or request a save with story details.

I've added basic support to GTASnP.com for GTA V saves, based on the few I've made myself.

I'm looking for a few users to share save files with to see if they're locked to our profiles (like GTA 4 with GFWL) or free to share (like GTA 3, VC, and SA).

If a few users could please download this save and let me know if it loads, I would appreciate it: http://gtasnp.com/KDNScI

I would also like some saves from other users to compare with.

We have confirmed that sharing works.

Save File Location and Naming

Save files are located in the folder C:\Users\<Your username>\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V\Profiles\<8-character string>\ and begin with SGTA5.

Saves are numbered by their slot number minus 1, up to 16 slot (slot 16 is the autosave slot). So SGTA50000 is slot 1, SGTA50001 is slot 2, etc.

Notable Saves

Story missions completed (61.1%) by tigertoddy2008

100% Save by Raxdiam

100% Save File

Some users have requested a 100% save. I don't have one yet. I plan to play to 100% myself, although it won't be a perfect no death, all gold medal run. If someone hasn't posted a 100% save by then, I will post mine. In either case I will have one posted here eventually.

We finally have one thanks to Raxdiam!

Online Saves

Your online characters and progress are saved to Rockstar's servers, not your computer, and cannot be shared or edited.

Console Saves

Saves from the Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, and Playstation 4 versions of the game are not compatible with the PC version.

Other Files

Also possibly worth mentioning, from the same folder:

PGTA<9-digit number> files are your saved Snapmatic photos. They are 960x536 JPEGs with an extra 292 bytes added the the beginning of the file (header information used by the game and RGSC). They can be converted to normal JPEGs by removing the first 292 bytes with a hex editor and adding .jpg to the file name.

MISREP<4-digit number> are mission replay files. Like save files, their format is specific to the game.

(GTASnP.com doesn't support uploading these. I'm just putting them here for information purposes.)

Hi. Save file sharing works. Atleast for me. I'm able to use your save and it works just great. Perhaps R* did this intentional. Or perhaps they don't know this. Either way i can confirm it works. For now. There's one flaw in your website though. When i download the save file as an autosave. It downloads the file with filename "SGTA50014" while my autosave filename is "SGTA50015". So i had to change it's filename to "SGTA50015". Not sure if this is necessary but i did it anyway.

Do you have a save file at about 20%?

My most recent save is at 14.5%. http://gtasnp.com/MpcZP3

I haven't had as much time with the game as I'd like. Being an adult sucks sometimes.

Great work Samutz!

Edited the title, as it appears to be working now. :p

Thanks.

Although I still need some saves from other people. No one besides myself has uploaded any to the site.

Do we risk anything like getting banned or not getting achievements, or getting them while we shouldn't because the missions have been completed but we didn't complete them, I feel it could be a cheat way to achievements, hope its not the case.

I doubt there's any risk.

  • It doesn't affect GTA Online. You Online info is saved on Rockstar's servers, where it can't be shared/modded, so that's safe.
  • I've never heard of anyone being banned for sharing saves on PC for single player games. I've only heard of that on Xbox because Microsoft takes their achievement stuff so seriously.
  • I don't think Rockstar will ban you from single player for cheating in single player. I don't think they'd ban you from Online either as long as you aren't cheating in Online mode.

(If I were banned from a single player game that I paid for, I would never buy games from that company again. One of many reasons I primarily play games on PC is the option to cheat in single player games.)

  • I think if Rockstar wanted to prevent us from sharing saves, they would of done it. They did with GTA IV, possibly because of GFWL (Microsoft).
  • I doubt they care much about Steam achievements. I was surprised they even bothered to add them. I transferred my GTA:O character and earned 9 achievements instantly.

Anyway, we've been sharing saves for other GTAs for over 10 years (seriously) and I'm not worried about it.

Has anyone tried xbox 360 saves? They seem to have the same file format (filename and extension the same) but when I paste one, the game doesn't recognise it.

I took a look at some console saves (including 360) and I'm pretty sure they're different save structures. I imagine 360 and PC saves are especially different since PC has more content.

I did try modifying the file headers to match PC, but they still don't appear in the game. I'm also fairly certain that the PC saves themselves are encrypted.

Delirious17

I'm currently blowing myself up to fail all the missions (So I can skip them instead of passing, it's quicker) and I'll back up my saves at major points in the story. Any idea how long will it take me to finish the storyline like this?

Few hours I think, sounds awesome!

So if i copy or or redownload my GTA game over to my SSD i can use my same save files on my computer? they get saved in documents?

Yes. If you're going to run the uninstaller before reinstalling, you might want to make backups first to be safe. I don't know if the uninstaller removes save games.

Neat site I must say.

But you should add some sort of database for us to browse the savegames that been uploaded so far.

It was originally designed for temporary hosting for Save N Play and Chain Game. However there are some permanently hosted saves for other games, such as 100% saves and starter saves, that I plan on listing on their own page soon.
