To me I'd probably place it tying 2nd (DDS2) or 3rd (Jessica Jones) with those two shows. Definitely better than Iron Fist and The Defenders. Reading the negative reviews, it mainly talks about the substance of the tv show, the layers of depth of its story and the execution of its messages its trying to send out. It's sadly the world we now live in. Personally I thought it was really good, and explaining the PTSD soldiers suffer was virtually spot on I assume. It seems like lately, fiction cant even use these f*cked up things without someone crying about it. The PC Principals of the world. All TV and movies cant have f*cked up sh*t, because someone will be triggered. Cant be uncomfortable at any time. Cant have a story that conveys any opinions other than a touchy feely left opinion. Cant even have characters that have those opinions, unless theyre villains. That said, Ive only watched 2 1/2 episodes. I'v been reading the comics and I really don't understand why they used Rawlins like that. If they used his counter part from the comics who's basically the same character but goes under a different name they could still use comic Rawlins for some great storylines. But also even down to:- Billy, he was a petty criminal, he wasn't franks best buddy, but in truth it added more of a dimension to Russo I felt. I'd rank it right there with Daredevil and Jessica Jones. It's the same level of quality. I wouldn't say that it's better or worse. That just depends on your personal preference. The pacing doesn't really start until episode 7, but from that point on it's an amazing ride. I kind of expected one of the villains would turn into Jigsaw, seeing as he's probably The Punisher's most well known enemy. I wasn't sure if it would be Rawlins or Russo though. But after the umpteenth time Russo being called a ''pretty boy'' and the scene at the carousel with the shots focusing on the mirrors so much, I knew it had to be him. It wasn't until later that I found out Billy Russo in the comics is Jigsaw as well. The only Jigsaw I knew was John Saint, from the 2005 Punisher videogame. Though they treated the issues with veterans coming home respectfully, the whole discussion about gun control crashed and burned for me. Much better than the standards of Iron Fist, Luke Cage or the Defenders. It deserves to be placed with Daredevil's Season 1. Definitely one of my favorite Marvel shows now. Tyler Posted November 27, 2017 Share Posted November 27, 2017 I feel like the Punisher can say a lot about things like vigilantism, but the fact that it's tied to the same cinematic universe as a talking raccoon almost feels like a burden on that end. Either way, this first season was a nice watch. They didn't shy away from the brutality that I was hoping for at all. There were some good moments related to the treatment of soldiers post-deployment, but I think there were some missteps, as well. Overall, I really liked that this show was trying to be about something a little bigger while still playing into all the things I love about the Punisher. I guess my issue is that there isn't enough reconciliation between the vigilante/terrorist subplot and its bigger connection to the idea of Frank Castle, and more importantly, how we as the viewer need to think more consciously about our appreciation of revenge porn in a world where mass murder is so common that we've started to say things like, "another one, already?" If it was renewed for another season, my guess is that'll be a while (in years) before we see another team up.
