NPC's aim for you on purpose?

I've noticed the behaviour has changed recently. Normally if you point a gun at a NPC driving a car most of the time they would stop and run off leaving you a car to steal. Now it's gone the other way, they are more likely to put their foot down and run you over.

First GTA title you've played op?

Been like this for decades.

First GTA game you played?

Cuz it's been like this since... V.

III: They are driving very calmly and slow

VC: Same thing

SA: Same except the freeways, but the NPC's only drive fast, without regard if you are on the road or not. Never run into you on purpose though.

LSC: Just like III or VC

VSC: -_-

IV: Really impresed with the traffic in IV, the flow was great. The NPC's were actually awere of your presence on the road.

So... no, not for decades.

As for NPC's in V, yea they drive like idiots. Slam into you on purspose from the opposite lane, ram you of the road, cut you off (on a 1 lane road)

Sometimes when I drive by an area where players do their usual street TDM's, when NPC's hear gunshots they drive un naturally. The car goes kinda sideways an accelerate from 0 to 60 in like half a second.

There is a bridge, that goes from Cypress Flats to Rancho where NPC driver will make a 180 in the middle of the bridge.

It's even more annoying and apparent during races.

Also, it may be on purpose at some times. I recall hearing that NPC drivers will swerve into you to help the police if you have a wanted level, and I'm pretty sure Rockstar isn't far off from implementing something like this for some heist setups or races.

My favorite is the NPC driver that deliberately rams into you head-on and keeps pushing, and yet somehow has more torque than a Zentorno or a Dominator and pushes me back.

Dang dog, AI and stuff. WTFE. I'm so amazed that they were able to put AI into Merrywether to swerve into me. Probably a different development team than with normal NPCs though, right?

For the record, I think this occurrence (not sure) is somewhat glitchy, it seems like maybe it was a mistake and they thought it was funny and left it in on purpose. Maybe some sort of social commentary about driving in LA. Either way, it could be bad programming, accident programming or on purpose.

I also like the fake physics vs real physics idea, although I haven't seen the video. When an NPC is about to swerve into you, when your car gets inside a certain radius, it's almost like the NPC car is suddenly jolted awake, makes it seem like they are frightened by the violence or something. lmao.

Also for the record, you both look like jack horses.

on another note, ya'll need to step your elusive game up

dodge em, weave in and out, swerve......brake!

*drives zenterno at full speed on the wrong side of the road without braking, crashes, then comes to gta forums to make a thread*

You're A1 retarded if you honestly believe that is the scenario that people are describing.

I agree with your last sentence, which is why I decided to just stop rather than continue to look like a jack horse. I've been told, though, that the other party has sadly elected to continue looking like a jack horse at least once or twice since then, but I refuse to even bother looking to find out.

when did I say..."you said"....? well then

you missed the point, if you dont drive normally without breaking a whole bunch of road rules, over taking, speeding, running red lights, wrong side of the road then accidents are bound to happen...thats my point, the NPCs dont "aim" for you....I play this game a lot

yes an NPC has turned into me, while turning into another road as I tried to over take them or when they are changing lanes....I wouldn't call that aiming for me

and it hardly happens.....like I sed, step your driving game up

They're not driving normally by any means, but neither are we. What you're seeing is the effect of a combination of both things, plus very bad programming. A brief example of that is the way that traffic seems to "come to life" when you approach it. That's meant to suggest that it's always there and always moving, but we know that's not the case. The traffic appears ahead of you as you are approaching. That's a very common way of handling many aspects of games, such as pedestrians, buildings, textures etc.. They only exist when they're being observed. The lazy part of the programming is where the game thinks, "Okay, I've just made a bunch of cars appear ahead of this person so it looks like they were always there. Let's make them move." It's that logic that's at fault here, and is the reason that so many vehicles seem to act in a purposely obstructive manner. They don't. Only a small percentage of all the vehicles you see in the game will act in that manner, and that's just the effect of relying on random factors to determine what the traffic does. It's not "on purpose" at all. It's just bad programming.

I first noticed this in GTA 4 while crossing the suspension bridge to Algonquin. All the NPC traffic was all in a single lane. Whenever I got within about 2-3 car lengths of any car it suddenly moved into my lane. I concluded that the AI was programmed to deliberately obstruct players.

The same thing happens in GTA 5. Also, traffic that crosses your path at a junction often goes faster than normal NPC traffic. Its speed appears to be calculated to cause collision unless you alter speed or heading. Also, cars leave the freeway (particularly around the coast) just as you're approaching, causing you to swerve.

A few observations that have occurred from lag have made me think this is deliberate programming.

It never fails that I'm almost to Simeon's to deliver a perfect car and one swerves and cuts me off on the bridge and does damage, reducing my payout.

Or when being chased by the cops, some cars ram you to "help" the cops.

Or some have road rage in general... some have such bad road rage hitting other cars, I chase them to see if they are a player off-the-radar.

Lane changes U-turns and they spawn just in time to be in your way in the intersection. It makes riding a motorcycle basically a death wish because it's literally you against 1,000s of vigilante drivers.

I was driving motorcycles since 2013 and I'm doing fine. It's actually easier to get away from them on bike, than in car.

try to keep it under the posted speed limit and you will be fine..

"Let's follow the traffic laws in a GRAND THEFT AUTO game."

I used to do that on gta 1 and 2

Yes but that's not my point.

That's your free will. You WANT to follow the traffic laws. Its not like the game decided to force it down on you, you just want to. Which is not my point at all.

Exactly tell me then why they cut me off when I'm following the rules.

I'm waiting.

Yes I do. When I'm in Paleto Bay. I only don't follow the traffic laws when there's no NPC around.

Even then (when I'm following the law) NPC's cut me over ALL THE DAMN TIME. Go figure.

This is partly true, but I can be coming up behind a car that has been active for a while, and it will swerve in front of me, and if you have stars, they absolutely try to ram you and get in the way.

Im tired of the NPCs who stop in the middle of an intersection than decide to go as you get closer, even though they had no reason to not go earlier. I also cant stand when theres a car flooring it and they are right next to me the whole time, magically matching my speed. The npc traffic seems to have def gotten to be more of challenge. I do remember that one Gerald mission though where once you got the drugs every NPC car no matter where you went was always in panic mode and flooring it.

The traffic def does more when you are closer to it, cutting down your reaction time and it certainly interferes more when you are on a mission or wanted.

Its even worse.

WHY DID YOU CHANGE LANES WHEN I'M HUGGING YOUR ASS?!?!?!?!

So I'm going through this road that has two lanes, an NPC car is on the right (about to turn right on the intersection leading to the highway, area is close to the barber shop in Radio Mirror Park), I'm going straight forward (which means I need to hug the left/middle lane) and the dumbass is to my right. The split second, right before I reach the intersection, dickhead turn left. RIGHT BEFORE I PASS HIM,

No shots fired, no cops chasing me, I'm not speeding off in a Zentrollno (lulno I don't even own a super to start with - just cruising in my Military Grade Dubsta6x6 obeying the traffic laws because fek u), no reason why the dickbag will do this. Please explain.

AND THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.

Really? Are you kidding me, this game is rigged, IGN 10/10 would play again. The input reading is real in that GIF of yours Wolf.
