Gdog
i kinda agree with you. a higher resolution is preferable but 720p/1080p ain't bad. on PS3 i had no problem whatsoever playing games at 720p. some games even ran at something like 640p. i think red dead redemption was one of them. i LOVE that game. when i got a PS4 the step up to 1080p was noticeable and welcomed but if games still ran in 720p i wouldn't be mad. the main thing is that an acceptable frame rate is achieved and that the game play is fun. damn, i still go back and play PS1/PS2 games. couldn't tell you what resolution they are but they are playable and fun. i'm happy with 1080p for now. have no desire whatsoever to try achieve 4K. when mid range/high end parts can achieve it then yeah i'll probably run games in 4k but i'm not going out of my way to get it. Nothing that'll break the bank lol if you have a rig capable of giving you an enjoyable time in gta5 then i'd say wait for the 390x from AMD and what nvidias response is to that. right now there isn't a single GPU out there that can run 4k at a steady 60 fps maxed without SLI, and that's a damn shame. hardware is behind right now. Xerukal
Seems kinda silly to call a natural progression in resolution "overrated". Way back during the transition to 720p and beyond, would you have called those resolutions "overrated"? What about 1080p? It's just how advancement works, really. Not everyone can afford 4k, so right now it's just a luxury for most people. But in the future, 4k will indeed become more affordable and eventually, the new standard. Just like 1080p. So there's really no reason for it to be shunned. Edited April 13, 2015 by Xerukal
RetardOfTheYear
Actually, I think the most impressive will be a downsampled 4k to 1080p I know the gtx980 and 970 can do that with quite some ease, it add some kind of a secondary anti aliasing from the downsample that make things looks just awesome. Probably a big hit in performance though... More on topic 4k it depends, if you play on a really big screen 4k will always fell better than 1080p, if not, you'll be absolutely pleased with 1080p as long as it's smooth anyway. Dock
4K is beautiful, when you see it you will start to want it Call it investing in the future, but I'm very happy to have a 4K screen right now 1080 is obviously fine for now, but calling 4K over rated? sjaak327
Xerukal, it might not be overrated however, I get the suspicion that the difference in experience doesn't justify the additional expense. To get the much touted 60 FPS you need to go SLI and that alone increases the costs of a machine. I too, will enjoy it at 1080P with 60 or 50 fps depending on how my hardware handles the game, hell I wouldn't personally mind if I only got 40. Yeah solid 60fps 4k you'll need a monster PC I guess, I'll rather have a rock solid 40 fps than a finger crossed 40 to 60+ fps depending on the situation myself, I enjoyed games even at 10 fps when I started PC gaming (with very low budget lol)

Bonaldo
It will take at least 5 years before 4K becomes the standard It's VERY demanding. Think about it - it's 4 times higher than Full HD (1080p) resolution To max out most demanding games in 4k + 60 fps right now, you need an absolutely MONSTER, expensive PC. Average gamer won't be able to afford it for a loooong time. IMO 1080p is good. It looks good and you can barely see the aliasing even with AA turned off. 1080p + MSAA x2 and you're set. I was just saying that the concept of 4k shouldn't really be labelled as an expensive gimmick as, in the end, it's just the next in line in the natural progression of resolution. It's definitely not anywhere near as affordable as 1080p 60 FPS right now, but it will be in the future. Edited April 13, 2015 by Xerukal
