I really, really disagree with Stu on probably everything, but when Trump supporters instantly get called idiots and there's a consensus that Trump should be assassinated then the thread has gone a little overboard.

Seriously it's ridiculous. This is a place for everyone to discuss the election, not just one side. Lots of people hold strong opinions on the candidates and on different policies and matters, but not everyone's acting like a git insulting those they disagree with. Honestly it's the sort of behaviour you see in the online section.

There's only one recent Trump supporter in this thread, and he might just be doing some other stuff right now. There isn't anything that is 'fitting' in that none of the Trump supporters are explaining themselves right now really. But that's not really the issue. What is more the issue is when someone gets called a moron ten times for supporting Trump, and the stupid posts about assassinating Trump.

 

I guess I called the Trump supporter an idiot, but that was because he was a cocky plagiarizer and a liar. Not because he supports Trump. That would just be unnecessarily rude. Also calling somene a 'bourgeois pig' and all other types of derogatory sh*t is kind of embarrassing.

Since your return to this forum, from what I've seen, you seem to have swallowed your pill graciously and learned to be a little less hostile, and a little more approachable - IE less of a monumental tit (shame the same can't be said about the other two), so I'm going to respond to you with a little more respect.

 

Speaking as somebody who is pretty bloody far from being sucked into this Trump parade (I personally still think he's an opportunistic twat, but hey, politicians/businessmen/both, 'n' all that), my objection towards this whole sh*t show of a circus is how he is being compared to the likes of historical genocidal dictators because "holy f*ck!!!! what's with the RACIST!!!!!!! immigration policies put forth on the table!!!"...

 

This form of PC media correspondence only serves to push the electorate more and more to supporting the right; having your opinions shut down under some manipulated perversion of what constitutes racism is of course going to lead people away; the more and more the voters are vilified for expressing a concern towards an issue that has been unfortunately but successfully churned into such a controversial subject - be it legitimate or not - will contribute to a turn, and rightfully so. As far as I see it, the way the MSM have berated those who won't bow down to the establishment - take note, anarchists - has only served to score an own goal.

 

Now, if I was an American, who would I personally vote for? Well, given the current line of candidates, I'd be f*cking off to Australia. And then returning to the UK should we get the f*ck out of the EU. But that's another matter.

For the record, I still hope Donald Trump dies like, ASAP.

He isn't any worse than the other republicans though, only dumber. If he'd be shot he'd turn into a martyr and that would give his stupidity even more momentum. At least Trump doesn't want World War 3 like Chris Christie or Mike Huckabee. Most republicans actually lean towards confrontation with Russia. Only Rand Paul and Trump don't as much. A right wing populist named Pim Fortuyn was shot and killed in my country, then he became a martyr and the right wing only gained more momentum. Now we have Geert Wilders who is actually far worse than Pim Fortuyn at extreme heights in the polls and movements of fascists attacking refugee centers. So I can tell you, saying "I hope someone kills Donald Trump" is stupid from a pragmatic point of view as much as it is from a moral one.

But support for Trump isn't actually difficult to answer. First of all, a lot of people (not anywhere near a majority mind you, but still a sizable portion) agree with what Trump is saying. You may think that's distressing, but those are the facts. You may also point out that other candidates are actually saying sort of the same stuff as Trump, why aren't they flocking around those candidates?

 

Well, beyond that none of them are saying everything Trump is saying (just some of his controversial stuff - or well just his stuff), this leads me into my second point: Political correctness or lack thereof. Trump benefits from seeming like an unconventional politician, that he is willing to talk about the things politicians won't, 'but everyone is thinking of'.

 

His supporters are generally more appealed by his unconventional persona than his ideas. This is why his supporters are often out parsing what Trump has said for us. Hence why one of the Trump supporters in this thread is trying to claim that Trump never said Mexicans were rapists, even though he did.

 

His supporters were also out explaining that Trump didn't really mean he would ban Muslims from entering the country, he just wanted the debate.

 

Trump's support is not so much an indication that Trump himself is spectacular or great or anything, it's more an indication that the GOP is A) failing and B) is fielding a huge field of boring cardboard candidates.

How come was my post deleted? Genuinely don't get which rules were violated. I literally just quoted am30, and responded with a further long list of isms to describe Trump supporters, like he has written out there, and said that I was triggered. It was taking the piss obviously. I guess it was either considered flaming/antagonistic, or low quality for D&D. But if that was considered flaming/antagonistic then surely am30's post where he's openly insulting people is as well, and if it's low quality then how the f*ck is that gif there above me?

As far as why people actually support Trump. Pretty much what svip said. It's cliche but it's true, people love a straight talker and they dislike political correctness. I'd even go so far as to say a lot of people would prefer someone "offensive" like Trump even if his offensiveness is directed at them and their group, over some very polished typical PC establishment type.

Can't blame him, Trump was likely to drop out initially, and he started out polling at like five percent. He had a massive boom, people thought the Trump bubble would pop, it hasn't yet. I still wouldn't bank on Trump getting the nod, though. Establishment would be iffy on that.

I agree, despite the fact that O'Malley is actually an official candidate. I doubt the party would rally behind him no matter how tragic or dire it gets.

I think they'd push for option B as hard as they possibly can.

 

Biden would be the most likely way forward (in that situation) and I think the party would more or less "force" him to run. But it'd just be a repeat of Hubert Humphrey in '68.

 

I don't think Warren is going to budge. I think she legitimately believes she'd be more effective in Congress and/or is biding her time for 2020. But should such a hypothetical worst case scenario occur, she might do it.

Trump must be counting his lucky stars for deciding to stay out of this debate in favor of raising money for wounded veterans, otherwise he'd be getting absolutely grilled by the moderators right now and, honestly, I don't think he would've been able to handle it very well. Not to mention the remarks he made over twitter about Megyn Kelly and Fox News over the past couple of days...

Yeah, the moderators have been hard balling all night long, and rightfully so, I suppose. Poor Rubio was sweating at one of the questions. I've never seen him so flustered.

 

I did watch the first hour or so of Trump's Veteran event. He's raised almost 6 million dollars. Say what you want about him, but at least his event has heart.
