U.S. Presidential Election 2016

Nobody really won, but Clinton will be up in the polls like she already is. General Election polls by NBC and the Wall Street Journal have her up by double digits already, and it's not even midweek. Like I predicted this most likely isn't from the debate, but it's most likely from the sh*t that happened with Trump prior. The tape, top Republican's jumping ship, losing funding and mailing services from the RNC, etc, etc.

I would take the NBC poll with a grain of salt--- it is already a left leaning poll-- it was a small sample (less than 500 people)-- and was taken prior to the news being fully digested-- the five thirty eight polling average put a very small weight on it in it's average-- the RCP polling average does not....

http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/national-polls/

so IMO-- is likely an outlier and part of the "noise"-- time will tell..

I can agree that there are people who like to see all the zingers and sh*t, so they can rave on Twitter about how "fooking savage yo" their candidate is.

You have to admit though, even if you hate Trump like you should if you are a decent person, I wanted to yell "FOOKIN REKT" at my screen when he said, "no, cause you'd be in jail." And I also roflolled when he said "no you go first, I'm a gentleman." It can be pretty decent entertainment, eventhough it's sad that a debate for an office with such major influence has to stoop so low.

But yeah, you are spot on when you said this debate made both look like sacks of sh*t. And that made watching the debate, even if there were moments of fun, depressing on the whole. I liked the first debate much better, because in that debate I admired Hillary.

I didn't know NBC was a left-leaning news source, and frankly I can't even remember when the news was fully digested. It says the poll was taken between October 8th and 9th, and by the 8th Republican politicians were already rescinding their endorsements to Donald.

Regardless, Rasmussen has a six point difference between their poll on Friday and the one that came out Monday, so it's not as if she's not getting a jump out of this whole fiasco.

I'm not implying that I didn't enjoy watching them mud-sling one another, it was comical, but I don't think that's the only reason people watch debates. I remember a ton when I lived in America that people would use debates a lot to try and see who they agreed with the most. It's not all reality TV as it would seem, people do actually pay attention to issues and policy when it comes to these debates even though there hardly was any this time around.

There was a really good article done on why emotions and persuasion rule these sort of contentious elections. Rarely does policy have any influence. You and I might say we care about policy, but we're really just fooling ourselves in order to rationalize what we're interpreting.

All that line showed, was that Trump has no clue about how the system actually works.

Sure, if he wanted to go the dictator route, she'd probably be in jail. Otherwise, no chance in hell. Trump is clueless. Quite a Nixon moment though

If you look at it seriously, it's just a dumb thing to say. But as a zinger it was off the chain.. The audience certainly reacted very strongly to it.

Not really a good zinger at all. All it made me think of was: "This guy is nuts. Who does he think he is? Putin?"

But stupid people gonna cheer him, cause they don't realize how insane that little remark actually is.

It's also quite hilarious to see how clueless Trump is. He doesn't seem to know how these debates are supposed to work.

You're supposed to try to swing voters toward your side, not just impress your already established uneducated base. The former is something he failed miserably at.

The latter, well, the uneducated voters seem to like his performance. Even though it was absolutely, unequivocally atrocious.

There's a reason why he is strongly liked among the non-college and poorly educated.... They're stupid. Some, I assume, are good people. Incredibly misguided though.

That criticizing Trump for his disrespect of women is one of the most important aspects of her campaign, when her husband is a serial sex offender, and that makes such attacks on Trump pretty bizarre to be coming from her.

it's not exactly the "most important" part of her campaign.

it's just the latest in Trumps yuge number of scandals.

this happens to be the straw that is breaking many backs. Trump lost nearly 30 individual endorsements from major party politicians and past supporters. many of his female surrogates mysteriously disappeared during the 'spin' portion of this TMZ scandal. it was only his male surrogates on TV trying to defend his ass. the Clinton campaign is just doing its thing and arguably its most important aspect is minority/civil rights and economic issues. I think they talk more about Trumps poor temper, his poor fiscal judgement, and racist immigration policies than anything.

Maybe because having a rapist husband doesn't look great. Especially when you defended him.

allegations against Bill have long been dealt with whereas Trump has been molesting women as late as 2006 at least. also maybe you haven't noticed but Bill isn't running for office. Bill isn't on the ticket. Bill is not a defendant in any court.

...once again, this has literally nothing to do with Hillary as a candidate.

this has literally nothing to do with the job of the presidency.

They see her as being guilty by association. Which in this case is a logical fallacy.

They also seem to forget that all of it comes down to this.... rumours and allegations.

Trump's little stunt on Sunday reeks of desperation.

A candidate's ties, links, and relationships are absolutely a relevant aspect of their suitability for the job of POTUS.

Except in regards to Bill, you're talking about something that was taken care of 20 years ago. It's not relevant anymore, no matter how hard you Drumpfists try to make it relevant.

You can speak for yourself, but I know plenty of people that care/cared about the real issues in this election.

A perfect example is the campaign run by Bernie Sanders. He ran a campaign focused on issues and policy. He set aside the drama in the American political arena at the time and spoke about what was wrong with the country and his plans to fix it. I remember during the primary debate, Bernie said: "Enough of the emails, let's talk about the real issues facing America." in regard to Hillary's email scandal at the time. And the crowd went f*cking bananas. If that doesn't tell me that there are people out there that care about policy and issues, then I have no idea what will.

Well of course. So does Hillary, but then she can't escape the bickering when Trump pulls the first punch all the time. This election has long stopped being about policy and more about who's the most f*cked up. No one cares at this point.

well no one is arguing that.

but how exactly do the women that Bill assaulted have any "relevant aspect" to the "suitability" of Hillary as president??

none of you guys who are harping on this issue have been able to actually articulate an answer to that question.

good luck.

Holy smokes the Debate was nice. When Trump comes thru with the red tie (like in those southern debates) you know the Don is coming in hard. 2-0 and 28 days until Nov 8? Next debate is next Wednesday on the 17th. Anyone voting here? I feel like I'm the only one here lmao.

I think my favorite question was the final question. It's threw everyone off guard tbh and I think it's nice that they added that. I just wish they were stricter with the times because H most of the time went over her limit. (I used a stop watch for both of them) Hillary went over clock more than the Don. But I guess one can argue for such a important position, they shouldn't be really stressing "ur 2 min is up" some points you can't explain in less than 2 min; you need another minute. 3 min is fair in my book.

What was your favorite question? I would love to hear everyones! :)

They had no idea it was called the oval office, they thought it was the ORAL OFFICE. :/

Wait, you think Trump won both debates? Isn't the point of these presidential debates supposed to be improving one's chances of becoming President? Because that's the yard stick I use, and by that stick, Trump lost both debates.

This is by far my favorite moment out of watching CNN for the past year or so for this election.. this even tops Kayleigh McEnany's endless defense in support of Trump (which is honestly quite saddening sometimes).

It's always a bit ironic how people can go on to say "Well, Trump said / did this (insert number of years ago here), it's completely irrelevant." but then change it up shortly after and charge after Bill Clinton with accusations and scandals from decades ago. Did Bill suddenly enter the race? I feel like I've missed something. What the hell are people even thinking anymore? To add onto that, I don't quite believe that her children learned the term "oral office" from school. I'm guessing they most likely picked it up from conversations between adults.

The man on the left looks so lost. Where did they even find this woman? I feel like we're all being trolled.

I'm itching to see new poll results this week.

They talk about how much of a sexist pig he is as much as these things, and definitely more than his fiscal judgement. And in general it's pretty legitimate to point out that he's behaved like an absolute jackass over the course of his life. But that campaign clip 'women will be the reason' pushes it, and if Trump then sees that striking back by attacking Bill and inviting his victims is his only choice, then that's absolutely disgusting, but to an extent self inflicted by the Clinton campaign. They can't expect a total jackass to play nice when they themselves push the efforts to assassinate his character with attack ads.

Yet another thing to add to the tally of things Trump lied about in the debates- that he was unaware of alleged Russian government links to attempts to target infrastructure and services related to the US election. Turns out he was briefed on it by US intelligence officials two months ago.

Oh, so now Donald Trump is a rapist because he basically admitted that he forces himself on women? But Bill Clinton is also a rapist!

Seriously though, Bill Clinton actually is a rapist. That fact doesn't make Trump not a rapist, though.

Why do you keep bringing up the color of Trump's tie? Like, why are you continually mentioning it? If he came out to the next debate wearing a purple polka dot tie, would that be a deal breaker for you?

(I used a stop watch for both of them)

Weirdo.

It's basically an admission of sexual assault, though.

The husband of one challenger for the position of US president is an alleged rapist.

The other challenger has openly confessed to committing sexual assaults.

If the total allegations against trump total two, then he might as well be innocent. Especially the fact that he gets accused of this during this campaign makes it suspicious. The comparison to what Bill has done just isn't very legitimate.

It's basically an admission of sexual assault, though.

I don't know whether it has to do with the posters on this forum not having any friends or something, and not understanding what that is like, but people say offensive stuff to one another to make one another laugh sometimes. It happens. It's not an admission of a crime at all. Mutually laughing about something completely inappropriate is a typical guy bonding experience.

I'm not sure where to post this but I live in The Netherlands and we don't have any live coverage about the presidential debate I guess, only thing about it on the news might be a few articles, is the presidental debate worth watching on the internet or didn't anything notable happen at the presidental debate? I'd rather know from someone here so I know that I won't waste my time on it.

You can actually watch it live on public tv.

Apart from that, not much happened, and you can better watch the first debate which was much better.
