Trump was also asked 15 direct questions v 2 for Hilary.

because Trump is the guy who we don't know anything about.

he takes no serious policy stances.

the few he does take are objectively racist and financially ruinous.

Trump is the one who needed to be grilled and held against the fire, not Hillary.

and as expected, he performed miserably under pressure. just constant petty insults, petty self-congratulations, rambling on and on without really saying anything at all. he is not versed in international relations. he is not versed in domestic policy. he is not versed in legislation. he is not versed in civil liberties, minorities, or women's issues. he is not versed on the economy. it's clear from debate number one that the man doesn't know anything outside the realm of his own self-aggrandizing track record on real estate and name-branding and golf courses.

he would make a great professional wrestling promoter, I'll give him that...

Why would anyone rational think that Trump would stand a chance?

That's just it, no one did, and he's a horrific debater, but that's not what undecideds are looking for. They're just looking for an excuse to vote for either, and both candidates didn't do much to change that at the debate.

Lester Holt did give very little in the way of questions to Clinton and, even when he did, they were softballs. Meanwhile, our "impartial moderator" drilled Trump on 10-year-old comments related to a fued with Rosie O'Donnell, spent several minutes arguing with Donald about whether or not he supported the Iraq War before finally giving up (which is ironic, given how the pant suit politician to Trump's left was given a pass), slammed Trump over birther claims he had long put behind him along with numerous other attacks. Donald himself had to bring up Hillary deleting over 33,000 emails because Holt wouldn't, and I won't even bother going into detail about Holt letting the audience cheer to Clinton, but reminding them to be quiet when it's toward Trump.

Given how Lester is a supposed "Republican", I don't look forward to the future debate moderators.

So the moderator was biased, sure, but it didn't make a big difference in the debate result. The most significant factor in how the debate went was Trump's lack of knowledge and competence. And I don't think specifically pro Trump cheering was targeted. I think that's false. You know another thing the moderator did? He let Trump yell over Hillary and interrupt her, and let him talk on for minutes after he they should've already started the next subject.

If Holt had pressed Clinton as much as he did Trump, then it would've made a huge difference in how the debate turned out. Lester's inability to silence Trump and move onto the next question is just another reason why he made a piss-poor moderator for the first debate. Sadly, he'll likely be the most unbiased one we'll see this year, even with Fox taken into consideration.

He gave Trump three critical questions maximum over a 90 minute period. And at least one of those questions, about tax returns, is actually pretty neutral. That doesn't make a big difference in the result at all. What made an impact over those 90 minutes was that Trump is completely incompetent and unknowledgeable, and that over 60% of the things he says are made up and can easily be proven false.

Lester was tougher on Trump because the Don warrants it.

his campaign has been a mess with no clear message aside from anger and whining and name-calling.

Holt did his job.

Yes. Three critical questions, and roughly a dozen nonsensical ones meant to push the hogwash "Trump is racist/sexist/prejudiced" narrative. I'd hardly consider Holt and Clinton teaming up on Trump, a private citizen, for not releasing his tax returns during a federal audit to be "neutral".

That doesn't make a big difference in the result at all.

What does make a big difference is Hillary politely being asked very simple questions, rather than being drilled about her past. If Holt had asked Clinton why she called black youths "superpredators" or inquired about Bill's insistence on going to an all-white golf club, the left would be ripping him a new one for giving her the same treatment he did Trump.

Holt should have a lobotomy before the next debate so he isn't so biased.

Jokes aside, I don't believe Holt will be hosting any more debates this election season. You can have fun watching me whine about Anderson Cooper next week, for a change.

Funny how the conservatives suddenly care for black youth when the 'Superpredator' thing comes up.

They act as if they don't agree with that assertion. :pYeah it's like in one hand they're pushing for stop and frisk, and then in the other they're trying to paint Clinton's policy advocacy as racist. Clinton migh have called black youth superpredators but what exactly has the right done to help the situation? The point only serves to point out the hypocrisy on Clinton's part, another attempt to stir ire against the establishment.

People in this thread are acting like Trump lost because he was a sh*tty debater. No one expected any differently, and I am sure you could find more than a few who would claim "He refused to play their game and called Hilary on her bullsh*t even when the establishment moderator tried to shut him down." I mean it's not like he showed a different side at the debate, so if someone bought his bullsh*t then they would buy it now too.

Lester was absolutely a sh*t moderator though. I think the fact he asked Trump so many more questions is because Trump continually failed to answer the question asked and essentially badgered Hilary during her turn whenever he disagreed. It was pretty obvious Holt was trying to let Trump dig himself into a hole and that is certainly the impression most people who actually give a sh*t about politics would see. Unfortunately, this debate was watched by more people than ever, and it's because Trump's racist, bigoted and conservative (but I repeat myself) rhetoric is attracting those who were never interested in watching a Presidential Debate. If you think they give a sh*t about anything more than "Oh yeah he let Hilary have it about the emails, he don't play by the establishment's rules," then you're giving 99% of Trump's base entirely too much credit. I think we're misled here because his only supporters here are the few who can form complete sentences and recognize strengths and weaknesses in debate.

I think it's a scary thing because if the debate was watched by more people ever, I can't really imagine it being anything but Trump that was the draw. Hopefully that desire to be entertained doesn't actually translate into motivation to go out and vote for him, but I am going to predict that the states Trump wins will be abdentee-states. Washington state for example typically votes Democrat, I can't think of the last time a Republican won the state, and it's greatly due to the liberal atmosphere and disproportionate population of Seattle and the metro area. Meanwhile, 3/4 of the rest of the population live in more rural and conservative areas, and already hold the idea that the liberals dominate state politics in a way that's not representative of the population. You basically can count anyone who normally would have voted Republican, but then you consider the masses he's also enticing to vote, I think he might push turnout up and that will be his path to victory.

I don't say any of that as a Trump supporter (obviously if you actually read it) but as someone who lives with the apes. Consider me Jane Goodall of Trump voters. Trump is doing everything right to keep these people rooting for him

It's like yeah he wants to use military force to marginalise PoC in various ways but he's not a racist like those neo-Nazis who btw are baying with support.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this debate. Seeing Le Donald reduced to a yapping poodle was a treat. Hillary showed some hella poise and gave him just enough rope to hang himself with, which he did with gusto. I still don't like her much, but this gives me confidence that she would be a competent president.

I think the biggest winner here will be Gary Johnson. I expect his poll numbers to surge now that Il Douche is showing cracks in his armor. First off, anyone who thought Trump was libertarian is a dumbass, but his comments about millions of people losing their jobs being "just business" is going to remove any delusion that he has the working class in his interest.

Speaking of Gary Johnson...

Gary Johnson can't name a single foreign leader...

During a town hall-style interview on MSNBC on Wednesday night, Mr. Johnson, the Libertarian candidate for president, was asked by the host Chris Matthews to name his favorite foreign leader.

Mr. Johnson, appearing flustered, was at a loss to come up with a name.
He grasped at a former president of Mexico, Vicente Fox, who has been critical of Donald J. Drumpf, but was unable to remember his name without help — or the name of any sitting leader of a foreign country.
“I guess I’m having an Aleppo moment,” he said.

The one election where a third party could actually stand a chance, and the third party candidates are just ludicrous. Way to go, America.

I don't really think any of that actually happened in real life. By far most of the questions asked to Trump were neutral policy questions. It's really the fact that he has no coherent policy ideas but only prejudices and made up facts to correspond to them is what made it difficult.

Did anyone else spot Trump mutter "because I'm smart" or something to that effect when being quizzed on his tax affairs, specifically in response to Clinton alleging that he didn't actually pay any tax at all? I though that was pretty hilarious.

It actually turned out that Trump has always paid income tax, and that what Clinton said was inaccurate. What was also funny was how later on when Clinton said that Trump failed to contribute tax to help build schools and hospitals Trump said "Oh believe me, you would've squandered that too".

Your statement is also inaccurate. There are only five years available of Trump's tax returns, from 1975 to 1979. In three of those years, he did pay federal income tax, but in 1978 and 1979, he did not pay any income tax, because he 'technically' lost money those years.

Sure three out of five suggests that he definitely has paid income tax at some point, but that's a far cry from 'always'.

Not conclusive, but it is highly suspicious. Possibility of Clinton signalling to Holt during the debate. Wouldn't surprise me.

Obvious Globalist conspiracy. They probably worked this out at the Globalism HQ while saluting their Globalist flag and debating the intent of the Founding Fathers of Globalism. That's the ideology of the state and its corporate tendrils, right? Globalism?

I have to wonder what a racist looks like to you people

Someone who believes that one race is superior to another... a belief that Trump has never seemingly expressed.

wants to ban foreigners from the country

wants to use military force to marginalise PoC in various ways

Strange. I can recall him saying that he wants to halt illegal immigration and put a temporary ban on immigration from Muslim countries, but never anything about him wanting to ban foreigners from the country! Likewise, I don't believe I've ever heard of him wanting to send the military into black neighborhoods... however, I do believe he mentioned having more police departments utilize stop and frisk due to its success. Seems I haven't listened to enough sound bites!

It's really the fact that he has no coherent policy ideas but only prejudices and made up facts to correspond to them is what made it difficult.

It's a bit difficult to talk policy when your political opponent and the debate moderator only want to discuss your past.

Yeah because calling Mexicans racists and criminals is strictly a policy discussion concerning immigration.

Are we ignoring the occasions which companies run by him have been sanctioned for discriminating against ethnic minorities? Or the explicit support offered for his views by senior figures in organisations that are, in fact, overtly and explicitly racist? Or the continued assertion that ongoing events in black communities are because of local criminal malcontents rather than decades of violent oppression and entrenched discrimination?
