Dingdongs
The lady herself announced her candidacy today, Marco Rubio is tomorrow and Jeb Bush to come. The real question to discuss in this thread is, who is MTD pulling for? Her video was pretty good btw Eliz, universetwisters and Zook

El Dildo
I wouldn't start a 2016 election thread until closer to January. the election itself isn't even until nearly 2017. until then let Fox and MSN and CNN do what they do best... there will be plenty of time for the rest of us to bicker
Ari Gold
Ah, but surely you've spent enough time to realise that GTAF is merely a microcosm of politically-extreme bickering with a touch of rational centrist input. OT: Does anyone think any significant challengers to Hillary will arise? From what I recall Elizabeth Warren isn't running, so wouldn't another left-wing Democrat be willing to front their own cause (Dennis Kucinich anyone? Lel)? I found him interesting but does he stand a chance of nomination and winning the Presidency? Or does he belong to the unelectable chamber? He's interesting alright... unelectable yeah without a doubt. He appeals to a very strange demographic. His beliefs are at odds with the Republican party establishment, chiefly his dovish foreign policy and his views on less restrictions on social issues. That right there makes it difficult for him to even come close to securing the nomination.. it takes a special type of person to support Rand Paul, one that maybe makes up 15% of the population if that. Ari Gold
I honestly reckon it'll be a Rubio v Clinton showdown. Rubio has conservative credentials and will be able to rally enough support from both establishment and Tea Party Republicans (the fact that he's already gone back on his previously, and I think personally-held, liberal views on immigration is proof of this, however temporary this flip flop will last), and the fact that he's Latino and relatively youthful means the Republicans can use him as a cultural play-thing against a female candidate to show how they're responding to America's shifting demographics (.... By selecting a conservative candidate from an ethnicity which is largely removed from the rest of the Latino community in America politically due to different circumstances, but hey, he isn't a WASP and he isn't Romney so they're trying lel). They could use Cruz for that hypothetically, but he's about as electable as ebola (or Rand Paul). He's Latino and not even Catholic (I just heard half of New Mexico go "wtf" in unison) Jeb's moderate leanings could work in his favour in terms of electability, but there's still that one tincy tiny issue of him being the brother of that guy named Dubya. Might be a bit of a barrior but not sure PS completely forgot this is an emoticon: Edited April 16, 2015 by Ari Gold Dingdongs

From an international standpoint you can say he's a centrist but he's pretty firmly center left in terms of American politics, with Clinton a bit more to center. well I'm pretty sure that MTD was being sarcastic, but I didn't say Obama was Right wing. my issue is that Obama was painted as Left wing when he's not. he's Centrist Left at best. otherwise he's just another big-money war-monger. aside from attempting universal healthcare, he's not a Liberal. not at all. if Obama has to pass for today's "Liberal" then true Liberalism is f/cked. the American political spectrum is so corrupted that the words 'democrat' and 'republican' don't really mean anything. both parties simply represent an extremely watered-down form of Center-Right-Social-Imperialism. there's virtually no significant difference between D's and R's except for abortion and gay rights. the real important debates about the real important issues that affect the real world are not happening. after the Citizens United ruling it's only getting exponentially worse. the candidates are sh/t. their ideas are sh/t. it's turning into a classic oligarchy. the US may as well start crowning the royal families; the handful of millionaires who we keep seeing running in the same elections, with the same old ideas coming from the same handful of billionaires who control them... Spaghetti Cat
Maybe you should explain what you mean by left and right in politics mtd. In my opinion (at least from an american perspective) it's more like a circle. Can't really do it justice here, but I'll give it a shot... Despotism Communism O Fascism Anarchy So when you say someone is in the center, center of what? In this description one would like a bit of communism, a bit of fascism, a little bit of freedom, but not too much. When the US was founded it was just a level or two above anarchy. Free but unwieldy. When the constitution was crafted we came a bit higher from anarchy, but the founders wisely chose to put limits in place to keep it from total despotism. Flash forward to today and we're getting closer to despotism, with flavors of fascism and communism depending on who's in charge. In essence I suppose mtd is correct with the center-right notion, though I'm not sure that's what he was intending. More to the point, I'd like to see which candidate(s) would limit presidential powers. Congress is doing a piss poor job of upholding their constitutional duties as a co-equal branch. So it would be interesting if a candidate would propose restricting his/her own powers. Certainly would be time considering what the last two knuckleheads have been up to. But I still think this is a bit premature. I've got a preferred candidate but it's still 2015 and we have people in charge right now that we need to keep an eye on. This presidential horse race stuff is just a time killer on the 24/7 channels anyways. No Image Available

sivispacem
Maybe you should explain what you mean by left and right in politics mtd. Left wing politics are based on the fundamental principle egalitarianism and social equality, oppose hierarchy and support prioritarianism. Right wing politics are based on the notion that some degree of social inequality is necessary or natural, opposition to economic or social liberalism and a desire to institute and uphold a hierarchical society based generally on natural order. - No cohesive political left really exists in America. Obama is left wing in the context of mainstream American politics, centrist in the context of American political history and centre-right in comparison to internationally accepted definitions of political left and right. His positions more or less align with compassionate/liberal conservative and christian-democratic movements in European politics which are firmly centre-right. Contrast with social democratic parties on the centre left and third-way or radical centrist parties which occupy most of the centre in Western politics Dingdongs, Skeever, Eutyphro and 3 others 6 AMD Ryzen 5900X (4.65GHz All-Core PBO2) | Gigabye X570S Pro | 32GB G-Skill Trident Z RGB 3600MHz CL16 EK-Quantum Reflection D5 | XSPC D5 PWM | TechN/Heatkiller Blocks | HardwareLabs GTS & GTX 360 Radiators Corsair AX750 | Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic XL | EVGA GeForce RTX2080 XC @2055MHz | Sabrant Rocket Plus 1TB Sabrant Rocket 2TB | Samsung 970 Evo 1TB | 2x ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q | Q Acoustics 2010i | Sabaj A4
