[REL] GTA 1 & 2 Maps for 3DS Max

while this isnt necessarily a modification, Alot of people have been looking for these maps to use in Total Conversions and there is almost no documentation on how to convert these maps from cmp/mmp format to a 3ds max readable format..

 

but thanks to an old GTA 2 map editor that was tucked away in the corners of google. I was able to extract them into the .cae format...

As an added bonus... Here are the GTA1, GTA2 and GTA London radio stations, they are converted from their original wav format to mp3

Thats pretty much why I am releasing them as Open Source here lol... now anyone can try to modify and convert these maps :D

 

I might also toss in the Radio Stations for each of the games aswell.... GTA1, GTA London, and GTA 2...

yep pretty much, I actually searched high and low before I found out it was that simple.. even asked majestic and a few other people who gave me dead ends...

 

 

Im surprised there are no Total Conversion topics for this yet... Someone really should make a mod with these

 

I can already imagine a GTA 1997 mod featuring these cities...would be pretty nice to explore a time period such as that...

cae should be openable by almost all modeling software... not just 3ds max...

depending on what you are using, you might have to search for a script or something

there was a set of Max files years ago for some 'GTA 1.5' project after that stopped which included all original cityscape/whatever maps.

 

anyway, I'd not even recommend using Max/whatever for these maps, a) you miss the GTA2 lighting data, b) you miss support for user-created maps and c) supporting the raw map formats as their own entity type is just a lot more helpful.

This is really coincidental...

 

I have been working on a Total Conversion bringing GTA1 features to GTA3 which I just decided to dump as it seemed pointless without any real resources and I couldnt find a way to import the map into 3DSMax.

I was starting to code the missions when I gave up when I realized that this really doesn't work well with only half of the resources needed to make something good.

 

Maybe now that there is an editable map, I could continue.
