Idea in question in the thread heading.

Would you guys and gals ever foresee gta 5 having these implemented? I know im probably speaking out of wack as Rockstar Chose Direct X 11, 64bit. But knowing the benefits ive already seen in such games like Battlefield 4, were my fps jumped by 25, plus all the headlines that Direct X 12 will feature, i cant imagine it not being run by the engine makers.

This has been discussed many times before. It's unlikely that GTA V will ever get Mantle or DX12 support.

Agreed, it really depends on how successful GTA 5 is on PC, not just to rockstar, but to the graphics card market in general.

IF we do get Mantle, it would probably be because 75% of all steam users play it everyday, leading to a better investment i guess.

DX12 is Mantle's killer, i'd rather have them patch in DX12.

Patch in DX12? Lol. You do realize that implementing DX12 means that you must recompile rendering codes and GPU draw call commands, right? That's like rewriting a huge part of codes.

The same applies to Mantle, although it still uses some DX11 calls.

Some devs do that, but Rockstar won't, pretty much.

There won't be any currently released game to "patch in" DirectX 12, even from other devs. They're much better off making a sequel which is being based on the new API instead.

Patching in DX12 will never be feasible.

Did i say it's highly likely or something? I just said if they were to do that i'd want them to go with DX12.

Crytek did bring DX11 to Crysis 2. So it already happened before.

That's because DX11 is basically a DX10 feature set. The way devs code for DX11 are extremely similar to how they code for DX10.

Mantle won't be used in any games anymore but Vulcan will be. And Vulcan is essentinally mantle.

  • 2 weeks later...

If there's a game out there that would benefit a lot from DX12 it would be GTAV, it's CPU bound. I guess that won't happen, because the code had to be written all over again.

This line in the specs may, just might, want a word with you:.

ffc04475960dd7f95ce5c952e615e05e.png

The game already doubles the vram usage for sli configs, appearing to list for both GPU's (sli with 2gb each shows as 4gb). DX12 will allow sli to use memory without having to be exact cloned memory anymore, use all the ram, not just mirror it on both cards, so maybe that's a hint at it in some way, maybe not.

it MIGHT have mantle but probably won't ever support DX12

Why would you think a technology that has been donated to Kronos group for OpenGL use will be applied to a DirectX game? Or that it would happen after a Mac/Linux release or something without DX12 being implemented first? Missed the memo? :p

If they will expand the definitive version of the game to support more modern hardware as GTAOnline is planned as a ongoing online game entity, perhaps they will need to get with the DX12, like how WoW has been from DX9 on up over time.

That. For OpenGL.

Migrating to DX12 isn't just a simple line of code, you know? I mean, DX12 has got to be the most radical change to DX since like DX10. Now, with it being so different to DX11, they'll need to completely overhaul the game engine. I'm completely sure they won't do that, because it's unprofitable. Only a some developers actually try to do a major overhaul of its already released game.

You're a Vulcan. ;)

This game with DX12... ermagerd. Not that I'll be able to use it, but still... They might do it, then again they might not. Rockstar seems to be pretty unpredictable.

Yeah because of the better technology than Vulkan (Mantle successor).

Oh no wait, because MS is paying developers a sh*tload of cash to make the game Windows exclusive!

GTA:Online is expected to evolve in that direction, they mentioned that hardware requirements will change over time for online.

new maps will be released and integrated and with it, ne Technology will be used.
