Carface Workshop

Recommended Posts

Just figured the normal maps, you need to add a check mark on tangent on every models that use normal maps. Black and white dirt maps from IV doesn't work, so I used the one from V (looks funny technicolor but fortunately the pattern is the same)

few things to do. Lights are not working, the collision is partly working, instrument guages not working, glass is not breaking. Have to deal with them one at the time.

Aside from extra LOD, and some configuration changes....other than that it fairly easy to do V conversion. Once you figure these configuration curveballs you can convert cars effortlessly.

Looking great Poctik,

I just solved the collision riddle, after watching Oleg's tutorial.. I realized i had missed a few checkbox and numbers. The only bug is the windscreen not getting bullet holes, but I can crash it. For now im trying to get the lights and instrument gauges working first. I haven't decided on lighting setup, I might try the same setup as original GTA V lights, since my previous method can be buggy on some ENB configuration (they ended up becoming clear)

Here's the Alpha release of my Land cruiser for GTAV.

It seems that the Caprice is the people's favorite car you made, haha. Poctik, could you possibly edit the badging on it, so it says "Albany Brigham" instead of "Chevrolet Caprice"? Would suit the GTA style a lot :D Great job on the cruiser car tho. I don't have V but I guess it's enjoyable :beerhat:

@poctik thanks for the help, feel free to release the impala. Let me know if you are doing another conversion.

@jeansowatty i have a 1986 caprice brougham with four eyes headlight and landau roof, I think that is better suited for Brigham.

@lt flash I'm planning to rework my 1993 caprice, the texture size is way too high. LAPD loved 1990-1996 caprices, I have a near authentic LAPD (released for San Andreas) but it got massive texture it triggers missing building syndrome.

[1] Fantastic, have a great time working on it! Can't wait to see the results.

[2] So do I. That's my No.1 of all police vehicles. I probably used all versions and editions of 90-96 Caprice since GTA:SA and I hope I'll have a chance to continue this tradition

Here's the Alpha release of my Land cruiser for GTAV.

Not sure if I am the only one with this issue but, for some reason, even though I have the Toyota installed in x64e.rpf, it spawns ingame as the default Mesa. Should it be installed in another .rpf file perhaps?

Nice, I am glad that Carface's models have started rolling into V. This will make an sweet LAPD cruiser!

I don't get what's the deal with rebadging real cars into generic brands. After all, the badge is just a diminute detail; even if you change it, you will still be driving a real car. To each his own, I guess.

The way I see it, the Brigham in III was a mix between the Brougham and the Chevy Caprice. Especially that there was one in GTA1 and it looked... like the Emperor.

@RoadRunner - Ye well, I'd rebadge it just so it suits the GTA universe a little more :p I don't mind that the cars are mostly mixes, but still.

I got the lights working, needs tweaks but I got bigger fish to fry....those pesky windscreen not getting bullet holes and speedometer not showing up....

@poctik thanks, you're the man! Now I can reserved the Buffalo for my delta 88, franklins lowrida! By the way are you able to help me how to get the windscreen and bullet holes working? I'll make another attempt tonight, and watch oleg's tutorial again.

@roadrunner I encountered the same problem, I knew something's is overriding the model, but I didn't have time to find the actual Mesa.

@jeansowatty probably hafe to modify the vehicle slightly, maybe a slight mash up design like different grille inspired from Buick..at least make it more GTA.

For some reason, I always liked to imagine Franklin's Buffalo as Mr. Brown's 1971 Plymouth Satellite in Reservoir Dogs. I am sure the Olds will make it too!

Got the speedometer working, needs a lot of tweaks with the materials and lights..but its good enough to have some fun with it.

I havent configured the meta files so the back seat passengers enters the wrong way.

It does explode for me though. One thing I've noticed is that the spare tire is kind of glitchy, as when you shoot it when the trunk is "open" it moves like this.

T9OhdFU.jpg

(sorry for the mobile phone picture, print screen button doesn't seem to work with V as it did with IV, do you guys use Fraps or something?)

By the way, is there any carcols file where the color combination the model spawns with can be changed?

i need more info on not exploding issues: what circumstances the vehicles does not explode? getting shot multiple times, RPG, falling into ravine or collision with a tank?

As far as I know "it does exploded" when I shoot several times and fire a grenade launcher. However when it exploded it left the entire body charred...unlike default GTA cars (I'll deal with that last)

The boot axis setting is incorrect, it's an easy fix.

I haven't got a chance to do the carcols ...I used trainer for changing colours.

So far the only 1993 LAPD Caprices I have seen are movie cars. I don't think they used many. Same for 1992 LAPD Caprices. They got a couple, but they have different lightbars because only traffic units used them. If I were you I'd make accurate 94s with LT1 engines and maybe 95+ as well. Then out of a 95 an Impala could be made as well. Just my thoughts. :)

@compeast When are you jumping the GTAV bandwagon? Most these movie caprice are ex police cars or taxi cabs from different city or states, stripped of all equipment. I had seen these retired RCMP crown Vic's a lot of them are in rough shape (sold for less than $2000 at the auction)

I'm planning to improve my caprice not sure about the 1996 yet...also planning to convert my fishbowl and classic bus (both have Santa Monica livery)

Almost there, I got the cluster working, the speed reads more accurate. some minors correction on the dirt uv map on the fuel filler door, the under body is too shiny and handling suspension geometry needs to solid axle.

@Carface, @Compeast. Hi. Wait, wait. Alex is busy, but still making a 1993 9C6.

I was hoping, Alex will turn 1993 into a 94, 95-96 and Impala SS. :/

Here is, some updates:

Well, so far I don't even have the game haha. Once I do, gotta learn a new ZModeler I've read, plus the setup and materials from GTA V is a lot different.

It's a shame these GTAs are all in the current and not the past. In GTA IV it was possible to edit the entire game to old school, but for GTA V too much has to be replaced. There for I might do current mods for GTA V as well. If I ever reach GTA V modding though. Until then I am lovin' these screens. Your projects fit GTA V environment too well.

@Oldsmobile, daaaaaaaaam that quality must be converted to V

@roadrunner I solved the vehicles.meta, it turns out its located in update/update.rpf/common/data/levels/gta5 however I still have to find the actual handling.meta, so I can correct the suspension geometry.

@compeast That's what mods are for, let our imagination go crazy! These video is a crash course for conversion, it took me days to get my car into V. I suggest you try make a conversion using these videos, once you complete the conversion then you can use the 14 day trial to export and debug the car.

heres Oleg's tutoral to get you started. also check out the forum's first 5 post from Oleg...http://forum.zmodeler3.com/viewforum.php?f=31
