No pics yet, Doing the engine bay right now, I had a minor setback, I accidentally deleted the oil pan and I have to redo it again. Hopefully I made enough progress for a screenshot.

I come back from having my power yanked for a week thanks to Hurricane Irma and I come back to this progress. Looking great!

I wanted to look up what colors the Dippy came in because I think a nice silver/grey would look bomb on it but then I came across a dippy wagon like what the f*ck, these were a thing?

Damn! that station wagon is fairly rare, they are practical, but very few people wants them, they cost less than a sedan or a coupe models. I haven't seen a diplomat for a long time, but i spotted a couple of Chrysler Fifth Avenue.

only seen one dip wagon in my life. apparently someone has one in my area but i haven't seen it in a while. they are extremely rare and were only available from 1978 to 1981. there were also diplomat two doors also discontinued in 1981 but was sold in mexico under the name "dart magnum" until 82 where they and dip wagons are still some what common.

to the guy who was wondering about colors they came in red, maroon, black, white, silver and tan and you could get a black, tan or red vinyl top. they had red, tan, blue or grey interiors and police interiors were usually blue or brown (my police dip has blue interior while my dads fury has brown interior)

Your Caprice models 1988-1989 and the new 1990 are all finished to the best possible doing I could achieve.

Looking great Lundy! The only strange thing I noticed is the middle part of the hubcap is kind of pushed inwards, it should be a little flatter like this.

The Diplomat, The model is barely 90% done, all i need to do are the little stuff, lots of them! The engine bay is somewhat complete, the washer bottle is surprisingly difficult to model, reference photos are scant.

What is the year of that engine bay, I noticed the 1987 model have different wiper motor. I am trying to make the early 80's ones, kind of figured the windshield washer bottle thing.

Engine bay is nearly done, just need spark plug wires and the battery. I think the engine is convincingly cluttered enough.

I corrected the oil pan orientation, and added the catalytic converters. The undercarriage is nearly done, it needs transmission pan.

CRAZY AL WARD

Hey Carface, i don't know if you heard anytime this week, but it's Sadly True...

Both John Dunsworth & Gord Downie have died early This week

Just thought that a fellow Canadian such as yourself should know about the sad news

May they both take a ride in Jim Lahey's [email protected] into the Great Trailer park in the sky...:cry::cry:

coming along so well. i don't know about the whole wiper motor thing but i know that around 1984 they wen't from using silver windshield wipers to black ones. anyway when will you be putting police parts on it? if you're gonna go lore friendly than in the LA area the California Highway patrol used these with jetsonic lightbars and the LA county sheriff used gran furys for a limited time. I've heard conflicting reports that the lapd had a small number of these but I've never seen a real picture of one just movie mock ups Dipcrop-vi.jpg

LAPD didn't use them. The wheelbase was just short of LAPD's requirements. 35 on the GF and LAPD requires 37 or something like that. I'll for sure do both CHP and LASD cars. LASD even used unmarked ones in an episode of COPS. Little red fireball on the roof.

I heard about them on the radio, indeed a sad loss. Hard to tell from your photo what makes and model, but I followed my gut and it looks like a 1976 Chrysler New Yorker, likely shared the same body as Monaco and grand Fury.

LAPD also disliked the Diplomat front suspension durability, and they also banned torsion bars suspension for bidding. allegedly, I can't find to confirm it, LAPD bought a few early 80's Diplomats for evaluation? I had CHP police parts from my aborted Ford LTD CHP car, they are fairly low poly, my diplomat final count might be nearly 160k

I assume you made them from reference pictures?

Y-You should share that... Every picture I find from the 80s is an SSP Mustang

I remember I got all the CHP equipments from the SSP site, most of these equiptment such as radio and lightbar control units are shared with other police units (I usually cross reference it with other CHP cars, so I can rule out mustang exclusive equiptments. I found a REAL CHP Diplomat from this site https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1988-DODGE-DIPLOMAT-CHP-BLACK/WHITE-UNIT-200085

That should do me well. Although I thought the red spotlight cars had the FS CC1?

CC1.jpg

Or is that a mustang exclusive?

I noticed on Ford LTD CV and Diplomats comes with red spotlights. As far as light setup goes I think it is standardized through out the fleet, depending on what year . The radio and lightbar control varies on years as well. Check this page out, I had seen this site before, good reference for era correct equiptments http://www.wb6nvh.com/CHP/chpradio.htm

Good discussion forum about red spotlights, California law requires all emergency vahicles to have one https://forum.officer.com/forum/public-forums/ask-a-cop/71483-chp-spotlights https://www.911jobforums.com/showthread.php?t=26879

According to mustang ssp site: In 1990, the CHP began using a single red halogen light in the windshield by the rearview mirror. The CHP continued to use the dual spotlights with the red spot on the drivers side. The red spot allowed truck drivers to see the light when being pulled over. The red light in the windshield couldnt be seen when the cars were behind the trucks.
