GTAV Rockstar Editor Video Showcase

Recommended Posts

I've only recently started doing Twitter + Facebook but have gotten a bit of a following relatively quickly, a lot of which was thanks to Rockstar featuring one of my videos. Twitter is definitely a good spot because I've had some bigger YT channels and creators contact me through there.

Promoting is time consuming and sometimes doesn't always work out. Reddit is one of the best places for exposure though you have to get the timing right; Post too early when not a lot of people are around the subreddits then it'll be either ignored or people will downvote it into oblivion and out of sight.

There's also the obvious factor of finding your niche / something that you think people will like to watch.

Do you know of other good subreddits other than gta vinewood?

I am always conscious of the time over in America when I post stuff (from UK), trying to get it timed when rockstar nyc twitter is most active. Not yet paid off though.

They go on a retweet spree on most weekdays but mostly snapmatic stuff.

Cool to see your growing exposure Duggly. Cheers for the advice.

Just saw the behind the scenes video. Even that is brilliantly put together like a tv spot for a new film release.

Do you work in video editing for a job (if you don't mind me asking).

Speaking of promoting... Hehe. (Yeah, king of segues :D) Go check out our latest machinima with some pretty respectable voice over work if I do say so myself. Hehe. I'd like to submit this into the competition if at all possible, but it wasn't specifically created for it. If it doesn't qualify, that's okay. We can live with that. It is supposed to evoke some emotions though. Specifically, joy through laughter at the comedy we're trying to pull off and maybe a little excitement for future videos from our Murder Death Kill universe. Anyway, thanks for checking it out guys and as always we appreciate ALL feedback. Good or bad, doesn't matter. If it can help us improve future productions, we want to hear it. ;) Okay, without further ado, I present to you "I'm The Driver!". ;)

Here's a short video I made for the contest earlier tonight. Paranoia, fear and horror - that's small town USA! Enjoy.

Title: Horror, USA

Platform: Xbox One

Emotion: Fear

Great shots and atmosphere. Tbh it made me want to see more, like a teaser trailer. You going to do a full feature?

Thanks! I hope so. This was really a test to get some ideas of lighting/shots etc but I ended up really liking how it turned out, especially the last shot. I was planning on doing a "fear" entry for the contest anyway. Actually I wanted to check if we can submit more than one entry per contest?

Off the top of my head there's /gtav, /grandtheftautov and /grandtheftautov_PC. If you want to cater to US audiences then aim for 3pm onwards UK time, that's what I do though sometimes I might post earlier.

It's pot luck though, you will get people downvoting your stuff and a lot of times you might get so many downvotes the video will vanish out of sight and will sit at 0%, so many people might not see your video.

As for Rockstar, I don't go by them really. If you keep hoping to be noticed by them you'll end up being regularly disappointed, but keep up with the retweets which I'm sure can't hurt. Showing Online-related videos will definitely increase your chances with them.

As for editing, no I don't do it as a job. It's just a creative itch I like to scratch though I've always wanted to be involved in that side of things :)

can also add /machinima to that list. While not exclusively for GTA 5 machinima's like vinewood is, chances on views are probably a bit better there than on other reddits where like you said....you will most likely end up in a void

As it's nearly Valentines Day and I keep seeing tons of fragrance adverts, I was inspired to do a perfume advert, following a similar path to LT Nuck's excellent Le Chien. I had so much unused material from the Marlowe advert.

Does the overall colour grading / brightness look ok or too dull? I wish the shadows didn't flicker like they do but that seems to happen on every shadow setting i tried in GTA V.

Colour grading looks fine, nice one! :)

It is for sure eligible. Only thing is, most participants work on their videos by themselves, when more people are involved in a production it generally has slightly less momentum than others as they've had help with it. Although if the chain of effort is made clear it shall be treated equally. :)

Really sorry to hear that. I think I remember you mentioning in the last round that you were preoccupied with something. I will watch your entry a bit later with full concentration. Can't believe you managed to finish it going through that!

I went through my dad's passing in 2011 and tbh, keeping occupied in a creative way did help a bit. Take care.

Update:

I know you have more important things to attend to at the moment and might not read this, but thought i would leave a comment.

I watched this last night. Brilliant video and quite unique in conveying those types of emotions. Really loved the shots and the news report. Really good use of lighting too e.g in the car underlighting his face.

The memories sequence was well done too. I'm currently trying to do something in that line but unsure whether i'll complete this in time for the round.

Just finished watching AkLeMo's video. I got goosebumps when the car jumps in the air. Sorry to hear your loos dude. Congratulations on getting something together. I wouldn't be able to.

This is my entry for this week. I set out with intentions to make a powerful video, but after watching a few of the entries, I realise I'm up against some serious competitors this round.

However, I'm still proud of this video, as I made it entirely in one sitting. (Approx 9 hours)

Short cinematic skit showing Michael De Santa as a LSPD police officer! :r*::D

The humor in these skits is amazing! Not just giggles, or louder exhaling, but full on cackling here while watching these. Goodjob ;)

Oi thanks Nucky!

I would like to hear opinions of other GTA filmmakers on the topic of: do you guys like seeing intros in videos, I'm not speaking about my videos but in general. I personally started to kinda dislike them, even if they are literally 4 seconds long

EDIT: there is a guy though, on YouTube, called oli43 (something like that), his intro is transparent, meaning you can see him playing the game and intro at the same time and I think that is the best option for me. The problem is however, I have no idea how to make that kind of intro.....

It may depend on the type of video, but overall I don't really have any problems with (short) intro's or leaders. Sometimes in fact, I enjoy it. Usually when it already blends in with the audio of the actual video. Music.....or environmental sound, maybe even dialogue.

@Circum: that is actually a very nice car commercial! Goodjob!

Question for PS4 Editor users, are you guys using the full screen preview trick to get the vids exported to USB or do you know a better way? It's really frustrating not being able to export the actual finished project (why on earth did they disable that ability for just editor vids??), I know PS4 has Sharefactory but that's not as fully featured as a proper video editor so I need to export my clips to USB for editing on PC.

Also @aklemo, I don't know you other than from seeing your posts/vids but sorry about your father and all the best to you and yours.

Got another question for you all. Haven't really looked much in to this yet myself, but what options are there (if any) to add fire, smoke etc to objects or the map? Is a patch of fire, or a cloud of smoke available as an object to place to create a building on fire. Also looking for some more tactical options for the Traffickers team. I think in your last zombie movie you had those zombies come through the smoke Duggly. Was that from the smoke grenade mod? (haven't tried that mod yet, but think I saw it somewhere)

All my videos are legit, straight from R* Editor, directly to YouTube/SocialClub.

If post editing was something I wanted to dabble in, I would use share function during Full Screen Preview, and export to USB. That way you wont get that annoying little User Tag in the top corner each scene.

Think you can set loopable Fx in menyoo on an entity (ped / object) which you can place anywhere. I have done this for fire before. Think it's called Trigger Fx in menyoo. They do kill your fps though.

Think you can set the opacity / visibility of the entity to 0 and just see the fx. I'll check it out further as I am not 100 percent on this with latest version.

I did similar with firework explosions looping on invisible peds.

I too want to create a similar thing. An apocalyptic scene with small fires burning. Let me know if you figure this out.

Smoke grenades might be a good idea for smoke fx.

I need to check out more of these map editor mods. Duggly used one to great effect in ep 4.

I Googled fire on gta 5 mods site and some map mods existed which had buildings on fire. Interested to see how they did this. They had smoke billowing too.

I finally got round to finishing my third short film. Took longer than I expected. Overall I'm happy with the outcome and I also took some advise you guys made, from my last short film 'Wild Justice'.

Glad it actually fitted with this rounds theme, coz I don't think I would of had time to start a new project.

I went with Tension, anxiety and abit of fear, and I hope that I pulled it off. As always any kind of feedback is welcomed.
