GTAV Rockstar Editor Video Showcase

Interesting news today, Rockstar NYC is actually looking for a video editor to help make game trailers and other content for their company. Pretty cool for them to offer this opportunity :D

Although, the only thing that's impeding me from applying for this position is the choice of editing software! I don't have any knowledge or experience of avid media composer haha. Forever alone with Adobe Premiere Pro xD

I applied immediately, lol. I'd of course have to relocate for that job, but it'd be so amazing to even be considered.

Ah nice it would be amazing if you get it :D (from fellow youtuber to working at Rockstar games would be a dream come true haha)

I myself don't live too far from NYC (like an hour away). If only they added adobe premiere pro to that list, I would have considered applying for that position as well lol.

Sorry to say that I won't be entering this round. I'm still working on my video, but a lot of factors have come into play since I embarked on it. The biggest factor being that I moved interstate mid way through making it, which meant alot of planning, moving, looking for work, somewhere to live etc all got in the way of the video. Still chipping away at it though. Hope it counts in the subject matter of next round.

Hey all, quick question here.

For the pc version of the game, is there a way to change the settings for how the game changes exposure, or turn it off completely for rockstar editor? I'm refering to how the game basicly mimics the change of camera settings like aperture. For example, when I pan from left to right, starting on a white piece of wall, the revealing a darker hallway with people walking as the camera pans to the right. I then basicly want to set my exposure correct for the dark hall scene. But because the shot starts on a white piece of wall, the game automaticly sort of tones it down to not make it too bright, and it then takes quite a while to get to the right exposure while panning to the dark hallway. This applies for every situation where the brightness of the majority of what is on screen basicly ruins the shot. I want to freeze my exposure dammit! Or at least have it change faster. Been really bugging me for some interiors shots.

Been having a break from GTA so not made anything new for this round.

Is it ok to submit an older entry? Not a problem if not, but nice to participate.

This round seems to be the most popular so far. Wicked stuff.

Nice video ElegantDream

Nucky, I doubt you can do anything about it inside the editor.

Those sharp exposure changes are annoying but once I did manage to remedy it with a simple brightness adjustment in my video editor.

It sort of happens on a frame, making it easier to pinpoint the switch in exposure.

I was actually going to ask about submitting an older video as well, did in April last year.

Also that was a slick showcase, ElegantDream :)

What an opportunity you guys are getting over there in the States!

One moment you're in your bedroom, crammed over a tiny desk from ikea, and the next, you find yourself in the Rockstar Offices in NYC working for them.

Yeah that looks a really cool opportunity - Live in NY and make / direct trailers. I think Duggy might have also applied for that too, from his tweets. A lot of you guys are great at editing and making GTA look stunning. That would be so cool if a fellow GTA V machinma maker got the position!

My instinct is that the showreel requirements, "5 years trailer / commericial editing experience" and using AVID might mean to do with industry experience e.g working on brand projects or previous film / game / media trailers more than from making machinimas imo.

Fierce competition I bet, but still, it's too great an opportunity to not apply though if you're into video editing and live near / in or willing to relocate to NY.

I once tried to be cheeky and secure a work placement at R* North in Scotland, as part of my course. I really wanted to work in their audio department for a year, even if it was just making coffee and observing. I was suprised to even get a reply as they must get tons of requests like that.

I've always been fascinated with their sound / audio work more than anything, right back to the original game, stuff like Manhunt, and the GTA 3 radio stations. This is a great read if you're into that behind-the-scenes stuff http://www.gamestm.co.uk/interviews/20-years-at-rockstar-games-with-craig-conner/

Anyone read about that lawsuit recently? http://venturebeat.com/2016/04/12/the-timeline-of-grand-theft-autos-director-vs-rockstar-games/

I was suprised to hear they got rid of the main guy The Benz (who is suing them). The main music / audio guy left too. They were there from the original DMA top down game I think, and maybe as key as the Housers and Art director are. I wondered if this is partly why no GTA 6 announcement has been made yet.

EDIT lol at GTAforums autochanging his name to "The Benz"

TITLE: Always Wear A Helmet

PLATFORM: PC

DESCRIPTION: LSPD don't take kindly to folks who don't wear a helmet. This is an older video I made last year (and it's a little bit, er...shakey)

@FinalFlamePro - Just an idea but you know you mention a prize for winners is to promote their video on your channel. How does that work? Is it worth doing a REC Winners YouTube playlist just for those videos? It might also help promote these competitions outside of the topic itself e.g in the playlist description. Interest in these competitions seem to be growing which is very cool.

Nice entry dude.

Well for your winning Horror video last round, I featured the video on my channel page. So when people went to my channel they seen your video on the main page and they also seen the winning video pop up at the end of any videos they watched of mine. I definitely see a rise in views for any video I feature there so hopefully it can help the winning videos here.

You can also label the featured video as well, so I put 'GTAForums Comp winner' as the headline. But a playlist could be a good idea too, might be nice for people who wanna go back and check older winning entries. I'll see what I can do.

Oh cool! Thanks man. I had no idea it worked like that. I wasn't suggesting this to promote my horror entry or anything but it was an idea I had sat on which sort of morphed into GTAFilmClub.

How do you make a video be played directly after another?

A playlist should keep playing videos automatically I think. I just added a playlist (with all the winning videos) to the competition entries post above. Is that the kinda thing you were thinking of ?

I promoted the winning entries last round for like a week or so, I'm sure it reached a few new viewers at least. :D

I remember seeing this on here last year. I think AkLeMo showed it me or it was discussed in this topic.

It sort of blew my mind, like the shots of firemen running and the dog barking at the fence. It's one of my favourite GTA videos.

I was always curious how you made the camera work look cinematic like that? It's something i've been a bit obsessed with. I'm guessing it's down to the camera shake and lower framerate, or is there more to it? motion blur?

Is that Linear or Smooth cameras? The camera motion looks smooth but then the shake modes don't look like that with smooth.

Stunning work and really hope you make more GTA videos (I think i'm subscribed to your channel already)

I'm thinking a lot of those camera movements are combining several things. The right time to have the camera track a character and/or move with the character can really add a realistic element to a shot. It's tricky to get right, but I've been fiddling around with it in my Hotline machinima, and when blending it together with normal, linear camera movements, it can become almost as fluid as "smooth" blending. Also turning up the "Drunk" camera movement up to 200% speed can work pretty well for some shots.

Do you like hurting people?

I tried my best to make this have some gravity. Just as Hotline: Miami makes you think about what you are doing at the end of each level, so too did I want some reflection made here. Enjoy :)

@RisingJake That was worth the wait dude. Debuting my new video after that is a thankless job but it has to be done. Terrific video and flawless ediitng.

Here's my new video and for once it isn't a Trailer Remake. This one was a nightmare to plan considering I had to do it on PS4 but I like most of the ideas that I tried to pull of. Lots of cameos from the GTA world which I think adds some needed humour to the video.

That was ace. Quite dark but very cool.

Are you running any graphics enhancement mods? Some shots looked incredibly dynamic with colour and lighting. Is that a filter or your own plug in?

You were mentioning cameras earlier. I can sort of get close to that cinematic look using Air Turbulence shake at 30fps or 24fps

but when using linear blend, if the camera switches path / direction from left to right, it looks bad. I understand why it does that as it moves on a straight line, but I don't quite understand how to do complex camera movement with Linear cameras.

Are you talking about blending linear camera movements e.g a camera moving right and then at the end, blending that into move with target?

There are a few shots in your video I wouldn't mind asking about if that is OK?

Great video FinalFlamePro. Slightly reminded me of Manhunt. Impressive considering the limitations of the consoles.
