Your thoughts on G-sync

Recommended Posts

I'm really tempted to buy a g-sync monitor, but don't want to spend too much on it.

So I'm looking at the AOC g2460pg. It is a 24 inch 1080p (144hz) monitor.

Right now I game on a 1440p, 27 inch Asus PB278Q (60hz).

I never really thought of going back to 1080p, so I hesitate a little bit.

The difference in size doesn't matter a lot for me.

So what are your toughts on g-sync monitors.

Is it really that good to give up on my 1440p monitor.

G-Sync (just like FreeSync/Adaptiv Sync) is definitely a very good technology, as it minimises screen tearing and makes the game look much more fluent. The downside is that it doesn't work with low FPS (lower than 30 IIRC), and when the FPS is low it seems to be a bit blurry (mostly with FreeSync/AS; in G-Sync this issue doesn't seem to be that bad)

I've been playing games at 1440p with G-sync for a while now, and it's been an absolute bliss. I tried hooking my old 60hz 1080p monitor up and playing some CSGO and Bioshock Infinite, and it was a jarring experience to say the least. It's difficult to go back. :)

There's a lot of new Freesync and G-sync monitors surfacing, with some impressive specs at the moment, though, so I would probably keep an eye on the market.

Considering that I just bought a GTX Titan Black, I don't have the money to go for let's say the Asus Rog Swift, like I assume you have Azazel.

Yojo2, I think that with my system with the right settings, I don't go near 30fps in game. So the fact that the g-sync module stops below 30fps doesn't really bother me at all.

I don't know anyone with a g-sync monitor, so I cannot see one with my eyes. Stores here don't showcase monitor a lot, and even then the usually feed even 1440p with poor 720p signal.

The thing that bothers me is that I can't try it before use it.

But there is a high chance that this week I'll order the AOC g2460pg and give it a try.

Edit: ordered the AOC g2460pg on newegg.ca while it has a rebate of 30$. I really hope to be impress by the screen and g-sync.

Cool, hope you enjoy it. :)

You're gaming on a 1440P monitor and you bought a Titan Black? That's not a complete waste of money or anything.

Not necessarily. At anything over 1080P, the more VRAM you have, the better.

I know it is not a waste of money, I was saying that I don't have much money left to spend on computer related stuff.

Before I had a gtx 690 and I didn't want to bother about vram so I went for the Titan Black.

I really hope, I might even sell my Asus PB278Q.

i iz jelly

My PC is rocking an i7-4770 and GTX780 and almost every game I tried goes over 60FPS and with a 60Hz monitor... Terrible.

But for now my only goal is to have GTAV PC and that will be the only game I'll be playing for a month and then hopefully also Project CARS.

G-Sync sounds amazing but I'm not a person who likes to purchase more than one monitors. And after some time I'm very used to the monitor I have now

and I actually very like it.

I really like g-sync when it works well.

Some games I tried had some issues (Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, La Noire obviously since the fps is cap at 30fps).

DSR is not working with all the games using g-sync.

It really improves games like Watch dogs, GTA 4, State of decay.

I can really understand the smoothness that a lot of reviews describe.

As I presumed, for the IQ, it is really my 1440p monitor that is best.

It will take some time for me the get used to 1080p (again), and the smaller screen.

If decide to change in a near future I would go for a 1440p g-sync.

But overall, I'm glad that I purchased the monitor.

I am excited to see on the nvidia website that GTA 5 will support g-sync (hopes it means it won't have bad issue).
