Going for Criminal Mastermind this weekend - advice?

Just curious if anyone has thoughts or suggestions about this. We have a solid-ish crew. One of the other guys and I are both very good - high k/d, good at missions, unlikely to die as long as we play carefully. Guy #3 is high level, well-armed, a big proponent of snacks and armor; my only fear with him is that he loses concentration sometimes. Guy #4 is the potential problem. He's also high level but goofs off a ton; when we fail missions it's often from him doing something dumb, sometimes just trolling the rest of us. Even when not intentionally screwing up for lulz, he can be careless (doesn't use cover enough, has to be reminded to armor up and eat snacks).

We've already done Fleeca, not that any aspect of that is hard. We've all done all the other heists at least once, EXCEPT Guy #4 (sigh) who I think has done 4 out of 5 heists. Though I know he's finished Pacific and Humane Labs with us before, so that's good at least. The one he hasn't done is either Prison Break or Series A, both of which have their difficult moments.

I'm thinking the missions we really need to watch out for are:

- Steal the EMP (Humane Labs). It's very easy to die in the dogfight afterward. Gotta keep Guy #4 out of the Hydra for sure.

- Prison Break heist. Me and the other good player will have to be the ones going into the prison, I don't trust the other two not to get shot up.

- Humane Labs heist. Again, me and the other good player will have to be the ground team. Helicopter guys usually have an easier time of not getting killed.

- Pacific heist, goes without saying. We did it recently using two bikes with two guys each on them, and doing a lot of offroading. Tempted to try that again, though I know going to get a car is safer (does that still work - garage still accessible?). I'm also worried about the randomness of the end parachuting - usually goes fine but I've seen guys have problems opening their chute and splat on the rocks. Can you just drive a car off that cliff without jumping out? Or can you skip the jump altogether?

- Storm the yacht mission. Those close quarters situations are a little scary with guys that are prone to be careless.

- That mission where you attack the convoy and steal the truck and the armed Insurgent to escort it (forget which heist that is). That seems like one of the nastiest setup missions. It's actually the escape after you steal the truck where I've seen guys get killed. Can you avoid that road and the cars/roadblocks that set up on it?

- The mission where you snipe the guys at City Hall from a rooftop. This sounds stupid, but the first time I played that one I had to repeat it twice because the other guy with me was having ladder trouble and kept falling off the roof in the getaway part. I'm going to be careful about that and take someone with me who I can trust to not sprint off to his death.

Any advice on the above, or other missions I should be thinking about?

One more question - if we fail a mission for reasons other than a player death, can we quick-restart it, or does that cancel our award progress? Don't want to make a mistake and have to backtrack.

Protip from a mastermind...

DONT DIE!

i highly recommend the use of heist heavy outfits, they slow you down but offer a lot of protection. bodyarmor and snacks are a must!

on the pacific bank, you can skip the cliff jump and simply head directly to the dinghy. there you would have to destroy like 2 helicopters before escaping.

escaping on bike its easy, just stay together and drive offroad.

on the convoy setup mission, i recommend using the insurgent or the armored kuruma.

block the bridge with armored kuruma/insurgents

snipe the savage that would appear at the distance escorting the convoy.

wait for the convoy to arrive at the bridge, you guys can kill them shielding behind the cars or from inside the armored kuruma/insurgent. dont use explosives to prevent destroying the truck and the armed insurgent.

once all the enemies are killed, stay on the bridge, 2 or 3 helicopters would spawn, they can easily be destroyed with the heavy sniper way before they reach your location.

once the helis are destroyed, you guys simply drive in convoy. 2 guys lead the way with the armed insurgent, 1 drives the truck and the other goes in the back in the armored kuruma/insurgent.

armored kuruma/insurgenttruckarmed insurgent------>

As long as someone does not die, you do not have to restart the challenge. For example, on deliver emp of the humane labs raid, your whole team has to take out the enemies without them noticing. If one of you does alert them, you can just try again, no need to restart the challenge.

And if any of you die at any point in the challenge, have everyone close the application as fast as they can to prevent the game from saving so you can continue the mastermind challenge as if no one died. Make sure to check your stats often so that you can make sure they didn't get reset.

Good luck

EMP- one person gets in the hydra, triggers the jets, then gets out and goes below the deck to safety. the jets will wander aimlessly and you can take them out with ease before getting back into the hydra.

Prison break- have guy 4 on demolitions. by far the easiest job.

Humane raid- this one is super easy, guy 4 can fly the valkyrie. you dont even really need to worry about dodging rockets, it can take almost 10. when fighting helicopters, stay over the water- the valkyrie will catch fire and fall out of the sky before blowing up, and if you fall in the water youll survive and can restart the mission.

Pacific heist- can be tricky, though definitely do not go 2 on a bike. My team did that and our parachutes glitched out, we had to start aaaaall over. Stick together, if one falls off the bike the others can get off and fight the cops while he recovers. If you lose or destroy a bike, just leave the mission and restart.

Yacht- have the helicopter land on the roof of the yacht so you dont get shot while exiting. the enemies are high as a kite or something because they can't shoot for sh*t- auto shotguns and the mission is a breeze. make sure you take out the police helicopters.

Convoy- shoot down all savages with heavy snipers. hijack the truck (do NOT blow up the merryweather cars), wait for the next 3 savages to spawn, and shoot those with snipers before moving. Armed insurgent should ride first, and people in the truck should be constantly ducking.

City hall- just take an armored kuruma to pick up the deposition, and careful of the ladder. Very easy.

On top of everything, make sure you are wearing heavy vests whenever possible, bulletproof helmets whenever possible, fully stocked armor and fully stocked snacks for every mission. Armored kurumas and insurgents are your best friend. my team completed this yesterday after a week of trying. Also, if you fail a mission, exit back to freeroam. Do NOT quick restart.

Thanks Neegolaz, great advice. Especially on the steal the EMP mission, I didn't even think of that. Cheesy but you have to be extra careful on a dangerous mission like that.

On the Pacific heist I think I'm going to go watch some YouTube videos and see about the car method. I've done the bikes three times now personally and I trust myself to do it, but not really the other guys. Just too much potential for a random crash or parachute glitch.

I'm doing the cm just had to reset due to a poorly aimed rpg!

the most important thing is communication

for the yacht mission land the chopper on the pier and snipe then put someone with an mg in the back and use it like a valkeryie

for the prison break the prisoner can stop on the way and buy an assault rifle and max ammo

city hall use an armoured car and make sure the guy grabbing the case is on the passenger side so the car acts as cover, the nearer the case is to the road and the nearer you can stop, the easier it will be

Steal emp is very easy just be clear about where you are and call your targets

Labs is also very easy, ground team 1 rifle 1 shotgun chopper team gunner calls out targets pilot keeps enemy choppers at range

Pacific getaway is tough theres no way around it we tried multiple methods and by far the easiest is 4 bikes together following the route but slightly off road wait before jump and send team 1 at a time

Trash trucks worries me but what we will do is move the truck to a safer nearer position and have the collectors follow in an armoured car

My only concern at this point is series a meth anyone got any tips for that?

I also think there should be a permanent stickied heists tips thread for great tips that the community can share

for Series A Meth just use 2 kurumas or 2 insurgents or 1 kuruma and 1 insurgent.

kill everybody from inside the vehicle, then convoy the truck to the destiny.

insurgent--meth truck--kuruma----->

For series a, on the finale make sure that everyone keeps their head low and have everyone keep their interaction menu up, ready to put on body armor when needed. The rest of it is pretty easy imo

That yacht sniping tip is great, thanks. I love sniping, will definitely try it.

That Prison Break tip is gold! I had no idea you could do that.

About the Pacific getaway, I just read that you can drive to Del Perro pier and use jet skis to go directly to the boat with zero resistance. I think that's my method, assuming the jet skis are there.

Don't die.

It's gotta feel kind of lame being the second person to make the obvious joke.

Don't take that 4th crew member.

And don't quick restart if you fail but don't die - it doesn't always mess up your progress but sometimes it does. Go into freemode and start the setup/heist afresh.

As for other tips, I did all the heists a number of different ways with my second in command before attempting the challenge and in the end we just took them all relatively slowly. You don't want to go for the elite challenges when you're trying not to die. Always use the Insurgent or armoured Kuruma where you can, don't take any unnecessary risks and know what you're coming up against.

It's not a joke though is it? I just did a quick reply. Plus I wasn't the only one. At the end of the day you will still get the same replies despite it being right. But I have heard that quick restarting can reset the Criminal Mastermind challenge.

Good advice definitely. Luckily we all own either the Insurgent or the Kuruma or both, and will be using them as much as possible, and gunning down enemies on foot from them whenever possible too.

I wish I could replace the 4th guy, but he's a good friend and a member of our crew, plus he already did Fleeca with us and helped schedule this time to do the rest. I'm resigned to just carrying him. He's not a terrible player, he's just careless - and he likes explosives too much.

You will always get the same answers even if the words are different. Doesn't matter how many words it is or anything, you'll always end up hearing the same thing from multiple people, no reason for anyone to complain about that. Plus people always read into things too

My team completed the CM challenge on Tuesday and although difficult it was well worth it.

Can't add much to the above advice but I will agree on using the heavy utility vest, saved our asses so many times.

Point is, I'm asking for specific tips and tricks, and missions you need to be more careful with. We don't need a bunch of obvious "don't die" replies. It's obviously not helpful and after the first one it's not even original.

Yeah, I'm going to be doing that, and telling my guys to keep their interactive menu open and on either armor or snacks whenever it won't interfere with what we're doing. I'm especially thinking on all those "drive from point A to point B while a million guys attack you" missions, having armor or snacks ready would be more helpful than trying to shoot back.

It was never original. But it's still funny especially when people get all uppity over it being said.

Any time you are in any vehicle, in any position, have your snacks or armor pre-selected so that you literally only have to press 'A' to repair your health.

You can drive, aim and even shoot with the snack menu up.

Keep your health at full all the time while in a vehicle. Buy more snacks/armor between missions.

Final bank heist: get in an armored truck or drive to the pier and take the "jetskis" all the way to the Dinghy. Money bags drive so that the other two passengers absorb any stray helicopter bullets.

Full body armor. There's very few missions where you move much on foot, so being slow doesn't mater.

Just be patient. Morons die because they treat heists like contact missions.

Simple. Get good teammates (like friends), have mics to communicate, do all heist missions with the same team, don't die, do all heists in order and follow the instructions on the screen. Get good and have the capacity to follow instructions effectively.

We've been trying to do this the last two days in a row. The same guy died on the same exact mission in the same exact way.

Anyway a bit OT, but has anyone noticed that the heavy vest has been nerfed a bit? It doesn't seem to take as much damage as before the last update.

Quick restart won't reset your Criminal Mastermind challenge progress. It's just a myth. I'm doing the challenge at the moment, we have reached the Hack setup on Pacific Standard and have quick-restarted multiple times on some missions.
